Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure has proven to be a valuable solution for organizations in various use cases. Users have experienced significant cost savings and reduced administrative burden by leveraging Nutanix's automatic and streamlined operations. By serving as the core infrastructure platform for both virtualization and storage needs, Nutanix eliminates the need for managing separate server fabric and storage silos. This web-scale technology has successfully hosted and improved the performance of legacy servers and databases. Additionally, Nutanix AOS provides flexibility, scalability, and remote capability, accommodating increasing demand and streamlining day-to-day routines. It simplifies operations by allowing single-point management and migration between clusters, supporting development and production environments alike. With its Prism interface, Nutanix centralizes infrastructure resources and simplifies management, troubleshooting, and visibility. The product also powers VDI, file shares, web applications, and acts as the backbone of enterprise virtualization, delivering stability, scalability, seamless patching, and upgrades. It is chosen to consolidate storage and compute in the same host, eliminating the need for SAN switches and improving performance. Nutanix is implemented company-wide to impact all users in every department and consolidate storage data centers more efficiently. It provides native integration for all hypervisors running in Nutanix environments while ensuring data protection and application recovery. Nutanix clusters are deployed across multiple sites with minimal overhead, offering control over remote offices without the need for middleware software. The simplicity of implementation and management makes it an ideal choice for different use cases. Nutanix offers great performance, storage optimization, deduplication features as well as seamless upgrades without interruption. Users have reported greater visibility with reduced power consumption thanks to Nutanix powering their entire business. The product continuously improves based on user feedback while providing exceptional support from the Nutanix team. It also integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure to improve efficiency and encrypt data at rest. Whether it is hosting websites or providing a platform for virtualized server infrastructure, Nutanix meets high availability requirements while offering operational simplicity and scalability.

Hassle-free setup process: Multiple users have found the setup process of Nutanix AHV to be hassle-free. They appreciate the assistance provided by Nutanix representatives during installation, which allows them to start building virtual machines immediately.

Seamless software updates: Several reviewers highly appreciate Nutanix AHV's automatic management of moving VMs between clusters during software updates without any downtime. This feature ensures uninterrupted operation and minimizes disruptions, contributing to a smooth and seamless experience.

Intuitive interface and management: Many users praise the ease of system management from a web browser with Nutanix. They find the interface well-outlined and intuitive, making it easy to navigate and perform tasks quickly. Additionally, the interface provides good historical data, allowing for better insights and decision-making.

Steep Learning Curve: Several users have mentioned that Nutanix has a steep learning curve, with the online training course being extensive and difficult to complete before taking the test. Users have found it challenging to get up to speed with the platform, potentially due to limited documentation and a lack of robust support resources.

Issues with Software Updates: Some users have experienced issues with software updates in Nutanix, stating that updates are sometimes rushed to release and result in significant problems with buggy software. As a solution, users recommend purchasing tech support to mitigate these issues.

Complexity in Management and Integration: Multiple reviewers have expressed frustration with various aspects of management and integration within Nutanix. Users find the interface for managing VMs on AHV unfamiliar compared to VMware's folder structure. There is also a lack of certain functionalities like the ability to disable a NIC card or add existing disks from other VMs. Additionally, there is complexity involved in integrating third-party tools, limitations in Prism interface functionality, and challenges with network segmentation and backup utility integration.

vSAN on VXrail and a Cisco Flashstack was our two existing systems before bringing in a Nutanix cluster. The performance of Nutanix HCI was far better than vSAN's performance (hybrid vs. hybrid and AF vs. AF.) However, Pure does deliver on its claim of being the fastest storage possible, which is true. However, the flashstacks management and complex setup do not compare to the ease of using Nutanix HCI.

We've decided to go for both VxRail and Nutanix AOS to make sure we can get the best deals from both sides. I appreciate this may not be a path most companies can go down, but always good to have a bit of healthy competition between vendors to ensure you're getting the best pricing from both sides!

We initially were managing our storage and virtualized appliances through a couple of different software. When we switched to Nutanix AOS, we were allowed a single point of entry for ease of management. This allowed us a more efficient process in regards to ensuring stability and ease.

We used UCS before, which is a little complicated to setup. There are multiple devices need to connect together (for example two FIs and main process chassis needs to cross-connected first), and there is no storage built-in. But once all setup and configured, it is good. The setup and configuration take quite bit time, it's complicated. Then we used Cisco UCS manage it. The interface is of UCS is good, but had some compatiblities issue with Java applets.
While Nutanix AOS is fairly easy once the chassis turn on the network connected. the Interface is very straightforward. No compatibilities issue like Jave.

Enterprise Cloud (EC) is made of three core components: Prism, Acropolis, and Calm. Prism is the management plane that provides a unified management interface that generates actionable insights for optimizing virtualization, infrastructure management, and everyday operations. The Nutanix hardware platform has redundant power supplies, memory, and CPU. The platform is resilient to individual hard disk failures. If a disk fails, data is automatically rebuilt without any impact on the app.

The only other hyper-converged I have used is Rubrik so my comparison here won't be very good I am afraid.

The two products seem comparable in terms of them just being a service in a box but of course one of them is a very good backup solution and the other is a very good infrastructure solution.

Other HCI products used or evaluated have been Acuity, HC3, Hyperflex, Maxta, Overt, Proxmox, Simplivity, Symphony, VXRack. Nutanix was really first to market and has had many first features available in their product, familiarity with the product, and our organization's track record with Nutanix's stellar support keeps us going down the HCI path with Nutanix. If it were up to only my decision we would only move away from Nutanix and to a completely open-source Ovirt or Proxmox if our organization architects and administrators would be willing to go self-support only.

I've been a big Nimble fan and would consider it if I was deploying in a green field site (it always comes down to price of course).
Nutanix are an existing supplier so for now it makes the choice easier.
We did look at VxRail but again for the VDI solution Nutanix won out.

We really haven't done much with the other modules. Our organization is small enough that implementing most of them would have been overkill and rarely utilized. It doesn't mean we never will, but it wasn't a need as we stand today. With our next refresh, I would like to look into using AHV instead of VMWare, so that may be where we experiment with this next.

We made benchmarks and evaluated other storage solutions. But the HCI component and the integration from storage, computer, virtualization are what mostly made the choice clear for us.

Nutanix is not as a mature product but the ability to automate through using their API is one of the strongest reasons for choosing this platform. Automation helps remove human error and this leads to more time for deployment teams to spend on other activities. Their feature set continues to grow and improve, so this will only help the product gain more customers.

Nutanix AOS is a hands-down much better thought-out and more robust solution than vSAN.
Better priced than SimpliVity.
Simpler HCI solution than Pure.
