I use OBS studio to create and manage live streaming events on a variety of platforms. Everybody in my organization uses it because it solves the problem of broadcasting from your desktop and from your webcam throughout the internet and includes many features for free that would cost a lot of money from commercial applications.
  • OBS Studio makes it easy to connect with streaming service providers
  • OBS Studio makes it easy to switch from source to source during your broadcast
  • OBS Studio makes it easy to design and edit what your viewers will see.
  • As a FREE product, there is really very little to improve upon.
  • It would be great if multiple devices could be networked.
  • Maybe the user interface could be a bit prettier, but it is very functional.
OBS studio is extremely well suited to anybody who wants to get started broadcasting from their desktop or their webcam via live streaming because the cost is extremely affordable, namely FREE. It has a very supportive community, and one of the sponsors is Facebook, so you know that it integrates well with that platform. If you really want to do a lot of switching, and add a lot of bells and whistles in terms of onscreen graphics, then you will have to look at commercial products.
  • OBS studio has not specifically affected ROI.
  • OBS has enabled us to expand our audience and attract new customers.
  • OBS has enabled us to start developing our own TV Channel
We checked out a lot of alternatives, which were simply too expensive for us when we are just in the startup stage of livestreaming.
Very usable because it is free and has had a lot of people helping to suggest improvements and sponsors have allowed the product to grow in sophistication and suitability across a variety of situations and use needs. It is very logical to use once you get started, although the dashboard can seem intimidating at first.
For a free product, a range of support is available. There are plenty of ways to find out answers to questions, because there are probably thousands of people using the product who are willing to share what they have learned. It usually works as designed, so needs for support are limited.

Love my OBS

With all the various ways to present a video solution such as Loom or Vineyard, I found that using OBS has allowed me to customize my background and present solutions in a much more professional and cleaner way.
  • Allows for custom backgrounds.
  • Scrolling and moving information.
  • Quick and efficient duplication of slides.
  • Sometimes the way the individual screens are highlighted, to move them is sticky.
  • Better compatibility with MAC OS.
  • Make it less taxing on CPU/memory.

I think you're best suited if you want to do a detailed customized presentation, with the end-user logo and information in mind, almost as if you are sitting at a news desk. It doesn't take the place of a PowerPoint so there are certain circumstances where a PowerPoint presentation without much need for video is better.

This is especially handy these days when more remote workers are wanting to present in a professional style as if they were "in person"

  • Custom presentations are more impactful and the customers are more responsive.
  • In general, the professional look helps to promote our brand.
  • Ease-of-use allows us to create more and more videos.
The fact that it's free is helpful and it is so unique with the level of technology it provides for such a low cost that it is worth trying. Now that we use it every day, why know that there is a paid professional version that offers even more features.

I didn't do a hard targeted search for various video platforms but, after we started using OBS, I looked at other solutions and it was no doubt that it would be the best for us, especially because of the cost.

We use OBS Studio to stream and record video footage of meetings, focus groups, and gameplay. (We do market research for video games.)
  • Very easy to add different sources for both video and audio and arrange them.
  • Easily convert (remix) recorded files into a different format.
  • Sometimes when you close the program, it doesn't fully close, which causes issues if you try to open it again. Then you need to force quit to resolve the issue.
  • Frequent updates, but they are pretty quick.
OBS Studio is really good for streaming and recording video, especially when you are pulling video and audio from multiple sources.
  • Great. Our clients love the output, both streamed video and recorded video files.
Webex has its uses, particularly when meeting viewers need to participate, but we always use OBS Studio when they don't need to interact (just view).
We've never needed to contact support. Not sure if they have it since it's an open-source program.
