We use the (formally known as) On Products in our Admission office, registrar office...all our class pages, grades, transcripts, etc. Our Development office has RENxt and some other components. And our Financial Office is running FENxt.,500-749,The interface from the parent side has been very easy for our families to use. The product is intuitive, and was a easy migration for our Faculty to move from FAWeb to the cloud based gradebook they now use. I love having everything in one spot.,The migration from EE to "ON" was rough and a bit clunky. It also took us a long time to complete. I find it frustrating that on the Admission side they can change a student status to Withdraw...but it doesn't "speak" to the Registrar side. From an administrative asst role, many of my AA's complain about lack of labels. Some areas offer them, others do not. I feel some of the reports don't allow enough manipulation. Advanced Lists are a "nightmare" and there isn't any training available to the end user on how to navigate them.,9,Positive: Happy Parents and Students! Con: It's not super "friendly" for administrative assistants, so they are typically calling me to complain what they are unable to accomplish. Positive: I love the new feature of DYI Data uploads! Our RE side of things is not following best business practices and really needs to overhaul how they keep their records so education management can sync properly. This is a task we feel we're going to need to hire a Blackbaud consultant to help us navigate this fix.,9,9,9,9The Blackbaud team truly listens to what the administrators and enrollment people need. We voice our opinions, and they listen to our suggestions.We use Blackbaud campus-wide! More customization in the reports that it pulls. Dashboard efficiency.,Our numbers that pull in Core do not always match our numbers in enrollment management. The notification system is a little clunky. A scheduling system that synchronizes with your Outlook calendar.,10,The uploading documents have made file management easier. Pulling reports is easier since the students are tagged. We will use it across the entire organization. Currently we do still use Canvas but may eventually use the LMS. We are using it across the Lower, Middle and Upper School. We also use the Enrollment Management System for the Admissions Department.,750+,Ease of use is great. Easy to view the information by parent and student and easy to schedule. Very intuitive to use. Great user interface. The parents are enjoying being able to get the information in an easy format. They can easily log on and see what class their student is in and their daily attendance. As Registrar, I enjoy how easy it is to update a room change or enter in new comments or notes on a student's records.,Reporting - Hard to print out a schedule matrix like we did in Education Edge. The new K-12 system needs a report similar to the Master Schedule in Education Edge. They have one named that, but it is nothing like the old option. The ability to print a room matrix would be great. Reporting - printing out actual student schedules. Improve the ability to print an A/B schedule for students. Ability to query data like in Education Edge. This is absolutely a must. The ability to get data out of the system is horrible compared to the previous Education Edge product we used from Blackbaud. The biggest problem we have run into is that the new system does not support a student changing sections from 1st term to 2nd term. We use final grades, so the terms must be combined into a single Final Course Grade. This is something that Education Edge easily supported. It should have been discovered and brought up before we converted to K-12. Blackbaud should have a list of functionality that will go away when you migrate to the new system. These are both Blackbaud owned systems and they should be more responsible.,8,Adjusting Schedules is faster for me and saves time. Ability to enter in notes/comments is much faster than it was in Education Edge. I have no idea what we are going to do for the Transcript. The new transcript builder flat out does not work - I am surprised that a company would even release a product like this that has obviously not been thoroughly tested. Thank you for changing this design.,The integration between the contract and smart tuition. There are too many errors that occur. Once a student is withdrawn from the school, their grade history should not be removed entirely from a class history. We should be able to recall this in the future should a parent have questions. Transcripts - We'd like the ability to write on individual students transcripts. For example, if they have a language exemption, etc.,9,The learning curve can be difficult for teachers who are not technically savvy but once implemented they find it is more efficient for them. EM product allows the admission office to review, respond and communicate more efficiently with the items at their fingertips verses in a file. Once the system is set up correctly, which can be tedious and trial and error, it allows for all to be more efficient in their responsibilities. Event creating is a very big deal for me, and it makes my job a lot easier.,The push page feature could be a little more user friendly, the formatting makes it tough. Athletic management is a great feature for all of the teams we have on our campus.,GPA calculations are not very easy to setup/maintain if you are excluding courses from the calculation. There is not an easy to setup group for our theater shows and I would love to see something implemented like we have for athletics. Customization of a student schedule report. Currently, there is no easy way for a student to see their entire list of courses in a report form without having extra information included. It would be great if the attendance count on the student progress screen could be removed. It causes a lot of confusion for parents/students.,9,It is helped cut down on the amount of time having to pull reports from other programs that we use. Allows them to provide information and enrichment materials that students can access at any time. I like the SSO integration available for things like PTC Wizard conference scheduling software. The changeover to the Blackbaud ID was unnecessary, consider restoring LDAP. It has helped improve our paperless environment with student records, directories, storing information and uploading files. It is our website and we were able to launch a new and improved website. Our school forms are much better. It is a great communication tool.It has improved our enrollment and admissions process.,500-749,The Resource area is a great place to upload documents and have forms and lots of information to communicate with parents, students and alumni. We no longer have a paper directory, the online directory is great and very useful and being online it is up to date as soon as information is entered. Enrollment Management is great. The contracts are easy to make and integrate with SMART tuition. Parents can easily find them. School forms are fabulous and parents have mentioned how easy they are now to complete.,The new and old report card builder aren't so great for a lower school report card with using skills to evaluate. It would be really great if we can lock parents and students from seeing grades and report cards if tuition isn't up to date but allow them to see homework being assigned. If a parent fills out a form it would be great to then have it submit to the SMART tuition account so everything is paid in one place.,10,The Enrollment management is a GREAT improvement from using Net Community. It use to take several minutes to set up a contract for one student. Now it is just a couple of minutes. In Admissions the applications just need approval in Net Community it was a big syncing process that took a lot of time. The website is very easy to use with uploading photos and text. Very well informed about the product and often go the extra mile to help find an immediate solution or guide you. Scheduling students is uncomplicated and intuitive.,Attendance could be improved if it could be specific for a division and not across the board for all. A PreK's reason for absences are very different from a high schooler. List building is anything but intuitive; terms used not clear. It's easy to manage classrooms and curriculum with Blackbaud. We like the ability to use the Blackbaud ID to SSO with third-party providers and integrate with Azure AD. Blackbaud Enrollment management allows for paperless student enrollment at school.,We'd like to have better integration options, especially with the Microsoft EDU suite and OneNote. Blackbaud still uses an old podium interface in many places. It needs to be aligned with more modern web design elements. The query tools are not as robust as we'd like them to be.,7,It's great to have a single database between admissions and SIS. Raisers Edge, Financial Edge, and Blackbaud Education solutions are still separate products, and I wish it was a single back-end database. The business problems it addresses is that the old Education Edge web portal was not as user-friendly and it was complicated to develop page content.,750+,Very user-friendly for "non-tech" parents/guardians. It covers all areas of school daily life. Academics, activities, athletics and community groups involving parents/guardians. It is constantly improving in all areas of the user interface.,Some of the functionality of advanced lists require extra clicks to perform steps. SKY lists are constantly improving, but have a ways to go. They are so easy to build and use but are limited to what can be displayed or filtered. Bulk deleting of rosters would be a nice improvement.,10,Its wide array of use throughout all departments has been a great asset. As other API connections are developed it will become an even stronger product. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions helps us more effectively communicate with our constituents, manage the educational records aspects of the school, and helps educators with organizing their classes.,750+,Blackbaud Education Management Solutions provides a centralized place for students and parents to find all the information they need for their day-to-day lives from assignments to schedules to athletics and more. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allows for prospective families to progress logically through an admissions process and gives admissions managers the ability to track all aspects of the process. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allows constituents to quickly update their own contact information, putting them into control of how they are communicated with.,Blackbaud Education Management Solutions has a very antiquated method for sending out email communications/newsletters (called Pushpages). Many other systems provide a more robust system. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions has been working towards an all-in-one scheduling system, but the current system does not work for all school setups, especially those with complex structures. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions forward facing/public website solution works well but does not have the "flashiest" of feature sets that other solutions provide.,7,Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allows our school to post news, photos, events, etc. in one centralized place and have the information cross post in a varies of areas both on the private and public sides of the website. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions lets our administrative assistants spend less time looking through file cabinets for records and allow for access to files from any web-connected computer on- or off-campus. Through reports and lists in Blackbaud Education Management Solutions users of all levels are able to print, export, and analyze various data to expedite their workflow.,Operational efficiency Improved internal and external communications Reduced IT expenditure due to cloud deployment A connected school solution,While Blackbaud Education Management Solutions does integrate with RENXT and FENXT, we have not been able to use any of those services at this point as our data has a long way to go to be ready for this type of integration and the additional costs associated with these connected services. In the next 18 months, it is expected that more of these services will be interconnected and we plan to further explore the options at that time.,5,8,8,8,5Years of SatisfactionWe use all of the solutions provided by Blackbaud's education management suite: Academics, Enrollment Management, Extracurriculars, and School Website. In addition, we use Smart Tuition, Raiser's Edge, Financial Edge, and several integrations with other products, such as Magnus Health, Turnitin, and Blackboard's Connect 5. We use it across our whole organization, which includes students from preschool through high school, the admission office, the business office, the nurse's office, and the school website. It has solved the huge problem that we had in supporting multiple databases across campus. The flow of information among various divisions and departments is basically automatic now.,500-749,From application to enrolling students into classes, Blackbaud allows management of the admission and enrollment process to flow easily and quickly. It allows everyone to receive timely, accurate information about where applicants stand on their journey to becoming students. It also provides an easy mechanism for communication with applicant families. The grading system in Blackbaud's education management solution is totally customizable. We have used the system for twelve years and it has allowed us to make changes requested by new administrators while retaining the historical records for report cards and transcripts. Blackbaud's integration of its school website software with the rest of the education management solutions allows for entering information once and pushing it to various locations as needed. It is a huge time-saver while ensuring accurate, timely information available wherever you need it.,Sometimes administrators request data that is in the system, but difficult to extract. For example, if we need numbers of students enrolled in specific classes going back for several years, it would require running a report for each year one at a time. Reporting is improving, but I feel that, if it is in the system, we should be able to extract it. Teachers would like a friendlier interface in creating course pages. Google Classroom is simpler for them to use, so it's hard to get them to buy into creating a course page only in Blackbaud. Parents, however, wish that they would stick to Blackbaud only, so they can learn one system and be done. Athletics (extracurricular solution) could use some improvement, making the interface easier for coaches.,10,Time savings has allowed us to stay at the same staffing levels in admission, registrar's office, and main office in spite of a large increase in enrollment. Communication between teachers, students, and parents has vastly improved. Institutional communication with constituents is also much better. The Blackbaud-designed public pages have attracted numerous potential families. We estimate that approximately 20 families per year are here because of the site, which means that it more than pays for itself.,Operational efficiency Advanced automation Improved internal and external communications A connected school solution,We have benefitted from the integration with both Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge. Transparency of information is huge. Sharing the same data across the three systems cuts workloads down because we avoid duplicate data entry. We also take advantage of this type of integration with Magnus Health, Turnitin, an emergency calling system by Blackboard called Connect 5, and are looking forward to integrating with both Follett's Destiny library software and online bookstore.,9,10,10,10,10End-to-end solution that's getting better with every release.Our admissions office, registrar, faculty and finance office all use Blackbaud's education management solutions, to different degrees. It proved a necessary tool for de-siloing information across these offices and making the flow of data between these offices more efficient.,500-749,Moving constituents from Inquiry, to Applicants, to Students and on to Alumni is much easier for us now than it used to be. The tools for students and faculty to keep track of their assignments, activities and scheduling commitments are robust and easy to use. The integration between the teacher gradebooks and marking period grade-entry is useful.,Blackbaud's legacy products, Education Edge and Faculty Access for the Web/Netclassroom, had features that are now missing in the new Education Management System. Custom reporting, lists and queries are still lacking. There are some data points that simply can't be accessed/reported on using the current tools. Blackbaud is apparently working on delivering better features in these areas but progress is slow. Customization, in general, could be greatly improved. Every school works differently, and as an example the GPA calculations, transcript and report card builders, though improved, are still not anywhere near as flexible as they should be to fit the needs of some schools. Implementations are often rushed and the quality of support you get while implementing varies widely depending on which implementation consultant you get. Blackbaud needs to re-structure the timeframe of their implementations to address the realities of K-12 school life, meaning schools should get to keep their implementation consultant through a full calendar year (or more!) and there should be more guidance as to where to start, first, with an implementation when a school is purchasing the full product suite. Currently there is bureaucratic pressure to complete all implementations within 6 months of purchase, which is a really tall order for most K-12 schools. The lack of "data-polishing" features is really astonishing and actually a step backwards from Blackbaud's previous product (Education Edge). This has added to the number of hours we spend making our data meet our standards.,8,We've saved ourselves many many hours of transcribing data between systems. We are better able to target communication to specific constituencies. We finally have a robust central online location for storing and sharing curricular materials.,Operational efficiency A connected school solution,We do not yet use RE NXT or FE NXT and so cannot take advantage of the integration.,10,10,9,8

We have drunk the Blackbaud Kool-aid and have most of their products on campus. We use the (formally known as) On Products in our Admission office, registrar office...all our class pages, grades, transcripts, etc. Our Development office has RENxt and some other components. And our Financial Office is running FENxt.
  • The interface from the parent side has been very easy for our families to use.
  • The product is intuitive, and was a easy migration for our Faculty to move from FAWeb to the cloud based gradebook they now use.
  • I love having everything in one spot.
  • The migration from EE to "ON" was rough and a bit clunky. It also took us a long time to complete.
  • I find it frustrating that on the Admission side they can change a student status to Withdraw...but it doesn't "speak" to the Registrar side.
  • From an administrative asst role, many of my AA's complain about lack of labels. Some areas offer them, others do not.
  • I feel some of the reports don't allow enough manipulation.
  • Advanced Lists are a "nightmare" and there isn't any training available to the end user on how to navigate them.
As a whole, I am very happy now that we have moved over to the Blackbaud Education Management Solution. As the primary back end user, I find some areas are not streamlined and difficult to navigate. However, on the front end...my faculty, parents and students seem very happy...so It's worth it.

Yes, I am feeling the school is more connected and so much more efficient then we were 3 years ago in the Edge products. Our parent / students reactions as we open up / roll out new features for them have been very positive!! I am also amazed that a handful of my faculty who always struggled with FAWeb (not matter how much we trained them), moved into this product with such ease that they help train new hires!

  • The checklist is an efficient way to manage students through the admissions process.

We are currently migrating from Education Edge to the new Blackbaud Education Management Solutions. We will use it across the entire organization. Currently we do still use Canvas but may eventually use the LMS. We are using it across the Lower, Middle and Upper School. We also use the Enrollment Management System for the Admissions Department.
  • Ease of use is great. Easy to view the information by parent and student and easy to schedule. Very intuitive to use.
  • Great user interface. The parents are enjoying being able to get the information in an easy format. They can easily log on and see what class their student is in and their daily attendance.
  • As Registrar, I enjoy how easy it is to update a room change or enter in new comments or notes on a student's records.
  • Reporting - Hard to print out a schedule matrix like we did in Education Edge. The new K-12 system needs a report similar to the Master Schedule in Education Edge. They have one named that, but it is nothing like the old option. The ability to print a room matrix would be great.
  • Reporting - printing out actual student schedules. Improve the ability to print an A/B schedule for students.
  • Ability to query data like in Education Edge. This is absolutely a must. The ability to get data out of the system is horrible compared to the previous Education Edge product we used from Blackbaud.
  • The biggest problem we have run into is that the new system does not support a student changing sections from 1st term to 2nd term. We use final grades, so the terms must be combined into a single Final Course Grade. This is something that Education Edge easily supported. It should have been discovered and brought up before we converted to K-12. Blackbaud should have a list of functionality that will go away when you migrate to the new system. These are both Blackbaud owned systems and they should be more responsible.
Needs improvement in reporting and the ability to query. The reporting leaves a lot to be desired. If it could be half as good as Education Edge that would be a huge improvement. I need the ability to print a report that has the master schedule and fits on one page. We need this by room number and by teacher - similar to what was offered in Education Edge. The current version crosses pages and does not keep the header rows of the matrix - making it impossible to read.

We are hoping to improve the flow of information between parents, teachers, and students. Hopefully, they will all get used to going to a single location to gain the information they are looking for. This includes schedules, grades, athletics, and activities.

We also hope to smooth out the schedule and class registration process over the next few years. We will need the system to start to support the ability to change sections within a school year for a specific course and allow a Final Grade for that course to be used for GPA and transcripts.

We are using it across our private, independent school environment. It assists us with admissions, academics, marketing/website, and some advancement. It makes it a seamless process for the user whether they are employees or potential candidates.
  • The solution definitely is user friendly for our families and potential applicants.
  • The enrollment management solution is very user-friendly for the admission office and we are very excited about the new candidate recommendation form.
  • Core's new look is very easy to navigate! Thank you for changing this design.
  • The integration between the contract and smart tuition. There are too many errors that occur.
  • Once a student is withdrawn from the school, their grade history should not be removed entirely from a class history. We should be able to recall this in the future should a parent have questions.
  • Transcripts - We'd like the ability to write on individual students transcripts. For example, if they have a language exemption, etc.
Blackbaud Education Management Solutions is well suited for an educational environment. It is very user-friendly for the parents and students in our community. It could be more user-friendly in the set-up process as it can be very tedious if you do not check the right box, etc. I especially like this product for the progress detail for the parent/student to visually see how one is progressing. In addition, the enrollment management process is very seamless for both internal and external parties (i.e. application, checklist, etc.). Where I feel the program needs to improve is when you withdraw a student. Their gradebook historical data should not be removed from the student/parent view, only the teacher view. Parents tend to dispute the grade and if they can see this detail then we do not have to re-enroll the student, add them to the course, print the historical data and the withdraw them again.

As I mentioned in the last slide, the integrated product allows us to be more efficient in our roles, it has improved external communication with current and future families. I run the alumni department so I constantly use push pages, Raisers Edge, and NXT to help communicate and cultivate my alumni. However, it is used all over the school, and not just in my development department.
  • The collection of information and the ability to organize events, etc. during the year.
  • The ability to send mass emails either through push pages or online express.
  • Event creating is a very big deal for me, and it makes my job a lot easier.
  • The push page feature could be a little more user friendly, the formatting makes it tough.
  • Creating a query could be made a little easier.
  • It would be nice to avoid all the signing in that is required.
The online database, directory, and group pages are great. It fits the needs of our office and admissions department. The creation of teacher pages for our students and parents is excellent as well. It fits well with basically every department!

Currently, we use Blackbaud on a daily basis for attendance, class pages, development, and website management. We are very excited to start using the schedule feature for students. This will allow us to track students and classes at any given time during the school day. This is a great feature, but not very easy to get set up.

  • The admin side of the education products section can be cumbersome to navigate.
  • Everything is built in a very visible block-like structure.
  • Hard to get customize information in and out of BB, most of the time it requires paying for consulting hours.
Blackbaud Education Management Solutions is a very specific type of solution and if your school is very dynamic or has custom needs, the software can be somewhat restrictive. When we went to BB On Products we ran into several situations of a "round hole and square peg" so to speak.

We use Blackbaud Education Management Solutions for all aspects of student scheduling, report cards, and LMS across all divisions of our school. It enables communication between our faculty and parents/students for classroom related activities. It also allows our administration to manage other aspects of the school relating to student data.
  • Easy for teachers to have class webpages and present media like pictures and videos as well as classroom details, like assignments.
  • Allows for a central database of student and parent contact data that the parents can update themselves and then share to partner applications.
  • Provides a CMS for building a public facing web page.
  • User management, with regards to permissions, can be challenging.
  • Scheduling if not built on top of a block schedule must be done manually and can't utilize automated tools.
Schools needing a moderately economical, well integrated, all-in-one solution should look to Blackbaud. If you have the budget and want the best of breed of all solutions and are willing to pay to integrate them, you can do better. It will cost you though.

At Calvary Day School, we use Blackbaud Education Management Solutions to manage the educational process for our students. St. Catherine's School uses Blackbaud education management for all divisions (age 3 through grade 12) for a student body of 100. We use the solutions for student information and learning management.

We use it in all departments. The main advantage for us to have data integration across departments.
  • The availability of data to all constituents anywhere that you have internet access is vital.
  • The ability to view online data easily on every device is crucial. (responsive views).
  • Ease of use for Parents and Students has been critical. Students figure it out on their own. Written "how to" documents were hardly used by students.
  • Blackbaud is committing resources to always evaluate and improve their product. It is comforting to know that if there is functionality that you wish was better, it is only a matter of time and it will likely be improved.
  • We need personal profile data updates for parents to update their record in Tuition Management automatically.
  • We need to be able to view the feeder school on the student's academic record and not have to go to Enrollment Management to see this.
  • More scheduling rules like, "do not schedule X in the same semester as Y."
It is perfect for schools with students and parents who are always connected to a device. I am not sure if it exists, but it would not be great for a school with students and parents who do not have easy access to the internet.

Moving from hosting data on our own servers to Blackbaud servers has given me great peace of mind. I know when a hurricane hits, our data security is not based on our own preparedness. We use Blackbaud's education management to support our 6-12 school. Our teachers/staff, students, and parents use this product. We use this product across the entire school and it helps us maintain data in one place for everyone to access.
  • Parent/student access to grades and report cards because it helps cut down on the number of questions/requests for this data.
  • Directory information is available to families and they can update it any time.
  • Athletic management is a great feature for all of the teams we have on our campus.
  • GPA calculations are not very easy to setup/maintain if you are excluding courses from the calculation.
  • There is not an easy to setup group for our theater shows and I would love to see something implemented like we have for athletics.
  • Customization of a student schedule report. Currently, there is no easy way for a student to see their entire list of courses in a report form without having extra information included.
  • It would be great if the attendance count on the student progress screen could be removed. It causes a lot of confusion for parents/students.
I think the system is great for parents and students accessing information about courses, grades, attendance, etc.

It is being used across all divisions (lower, middle, and upper schools). As previous users of the Education Edge products (NetClassroom and FAWeb), this product allowed us to have a relatively seamless transition into a much better SMS interface. Better for parents, better for students, and better for teachers.
  • I like the ability for teachers to customize their individual bulletin boards for their classes. Allows them to provide information and enrichment materials that students can access at any time.
  • I like the SSO integration available for things like PTC Wizard conference scheduling software.
  • I like the ability to imitate parents\teachers as it makes troubleshooting issues easier.
  • There should be the ability to making changes to the interface to help the visually impaired.
  • The changeover to the Blackbaud ID was unnecessary, consider restoring LDAP.
  • Some of the management interfaces to do tasks in Core are clunky, they could be redesigned to be more clear and streamlined,.
It is certainly well suited to any system that is currently using Education Edge. Obviously, I believe that it is appropriate for any school system looking to have an SMS that allows for rich content would be happy with this. It is less appropriate for lower grades. Perhaps a change could be an interface that is more appropriate to the needs of, say, a 2nd-grade teacher.

I believe that for the most part, we have met all of our goals. Certainly having a common interface among teachers, students and parents has made using the product much easier. Automation is still kind of where it was previously. I'm not sure our teachers take advantage of the ways they can automate certain processes. Being able to directly email out of the interface has improved teacher\parent communication. The cloud implementation has helped and hurt—students can connect from any machine anywhere but are dependent on the quality of that connection. Overall, the good far outweighs the bad.

Our entire school uses Blackbaud Education Management. It has helped improve our paperless environment with student records, directories, storing information and uploading files. It is our website and we were able to launch a new and improved website. Our school forms are much better. It is a great communication tool.It has improved our enrollment and admissions process.
  • The Resource area is a great place to upload documents and have forms and lots of information to communicate with parents, students and alumni.
  • We no longer have a paper directory, the online directory is great and very useful and being online it is up to date as soon as information is entered.
  • Enrollment Management is great. The contracts are easy to make and integrate with SMART tuition. Parents can easily find them.
  • School forms are fabulous and parents have mentioned how easy they are now to complete.
  • The new and old report card builder aren't so great for a lower school report card with using skills to evaluate.
  • It would be really great if we can lock parents and students from seeing grades and report cards if tuition isn't up to date but allow them to see homework being assigned.
  • If a parent fills out a form it would be great to then have it submit to the SMART tuition account so everything is paid in one place.
The support with Blackbaud is by far the best. During our transition year the consultants trained us very well and were very helpful and even had ideas for school best practices. Having the support made the transition less stressful. Coming from Education Edge and other Blackbaud products this system is a great improvement with only having to log into one system.

  • Technical support is fantastic. Very well informed about the product and often go the extra mile to help find an immediate solution or guide you.

  • Scheduling students is uncomplicated and intuitive.
  • Attendance could be improved if it could be specific for a division and not across the board for all. A PreK's reason for absences are very different from a high schooler.
  • List building is anything but intuitive; terms used not clear.
  • Forms need to be updated so a parent doesn't have to reenter information each year if it's already in our database especially on the medical forms.

We use Blackbaud across all divisions in our school. The education management solution, in particular, is used by both the Middle and Upper Schools for SIS and LMS purposes, and in the admissions division for student enrollment.
  • LMS works well. It's easy to manage classrooms and curriculum with Blackbaud.
  • We like the ability to use the Blackbaud ID to SSO with third-party providers and integrate with Azure AD.
  • Blackbaud Enrollment management allows for paperless student enrollment at school.
  • We'd like to have better integration options, especially with the Microsoft EDU suite and OneNote.
  • Blackbaud still uses an old podium interface in many places. It needs to be aligned with more modern web design elements.
  • The query tools are not as robust as we'd like them to be.
Blackbaud is great as an LMS and works very well. It's more cumbersome when trying to build queries and retrieve data.

The platform is being used to manage all aspects of the school. Our goal is to have all staff use it - from teachers to all administrative staff. It is keeping all the pertinent data in one place for the school and is being used to help digitize past records for alumni whose info we would be using fundraising.
  • It helps the staff easily keep track of records.

  • Communication with constituents is more frequent.
  • I am unable to find easy tutorials to provide to parents and teachers.

Blackbaud Education Management Solutions is great for younger parents since they are usually on their phones and check their emails throughout the workday. The older crowd has a hard time integrating and still require information to be printed out and delivered or to receive phone calls. Some school staff have a harder time catching up with the program.
  • Improved internal and external communications
Using the resource boards and newsletters to communicate with parents has been very helpful. Every week teachers send a class update to the parents with pictures and upcoming events. This was lacking before BEMS, and it gives us peace of mind and parents have a connection to the class even with their busy schedules.

Our entire K-12 school community uses Blackbaud. It is seamless, intuitive and easy to use. I love the Idea Bank, where users can post and vote on ideas. Blackbaud will then work on these requests and make adjustments to their system. Customer service is on point and you can request one on one appointments for help.

It is great for worklists, data management, and student tracking. Its admission review process can be fleshed out a bit more. A more customized program would be more helpful because of the different needs of different schools. Overall, it is a robust program, but it's the biggest strength is that it continues to be updated.

For the most part, yes, this is a work in progress. Our parents are not thrilled to have 4 usernames and passwords for school-related websites such as tuition and health, etc. We are excited that all of these programs will be merged under Blackbaud, making a more customer service friendly experience.

We use Blackbaud Education Management Solution throughout our K-12 school. It allows us to integrate our solution across our Tuition Office and Admissions Office. It also allows integration between our Tuition Office and our Business Office. Using all of the Blackbaud products has really streamlined many of our school administrative processes.
  • We love the new Sky Lists. They allow the average user to access data that they previously had to come to our IT department to get.
  • Our HS faculty use the class bulletin boards and topics to keep students informed regarding class assignments and expectations.
  • The integrated contracts allow enrollment data to flow seamlessly between the Enrollment Management system and the Tuition Management system.
  • Registration forms for summer camps could be improved. It would be nice it they worked more like school forms.
It works well for K-12 independent schools.

We use it to keep track of client profiles and to take detail notes. We also use the checklist and upload important documents.

It is being used school-wide by faculty/staff, students, parents/guardians. It is our student information system. It replaced Blackbaud's Education Edge program. It has a very friendly user web interface for all users. The business problems it addresses is that the old Education Edge web portal was not as user-friendly and it was complicated to develop page content.
  • Very user-friendly for "non-tech" parents/guardians.
  • It covers all areas of school daily life. Academics, activities, athletics and community groups involving parents/guardians.
  • It is constantly improving in all areas of the user interface.
  • Some of the functionality of advanced lists require extra clicks to perform steps.
  • SKY lists are constantly improving, but have a ways to go. They are so easy to build and use but are limited to what can be displayed or filtered.
  • Bulk deleting of rosters would be a nice improvement.
It has been a great product for our parents/guardians. I have had very few of them contact me to say that they cannot figure out how to navigate and use the program. It would be nice to be able to build some "open to all users" front end web pages without having to purchase onMessage.

It has been a great move going from Education Edge to ON. There are only a few queries and reports that people still complain about that EE was able to perform and ON cannot. One thing I value is the product is constantly improving. End users like us are able to submit feature requests. I find that extremely valuable.

Blackbaud Education Management Solutions is being used for all aspects of our school, from Prekindergarten 3 to Grade 12 and in all departments across the organization from teachers to administrators to business office to development office and athletics. Blackbaud Education Management Solutions helps us more effectively communicate with our constituents, manage the educational records aspects of the school, and helps educators with organizing their classes.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions provides a centralized place for students and parents to find all the information they need for their day-to-day lives from assignments to schedules to athletics and more.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allows for prospective families to progress logically through an admissions process and gives admissions managers the ability to track all aspects of the process.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allows constituents to quickly update their own contact information, putting them into control of how they are communicated with.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions has a very antiquated method for sending out email communications/newsletters (called Pushpages). Many other systems provide a more robust system.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions has been working towards an all-in-one scheduling system, but the current system does not work for all school setups, especially those with complex structures.
  • Blackbaud Education Management Solutions forward facing/public website solution works well but does not have the "flashiest" of feature sets that other solutions provide.
Blackbaud Education Management Solutions would be best for medium to large schools, mostly located in one centralized location. If you were going from a largely paper-based records/admissions management system, you would see great gains in efficiency with a product like this. Small schools would not see as much benefit to the services offered compared to the price point of the software.

Blackbaud Education Management Solutions allowed our school to be more fully connected and share resources. However; while it does offer many services need in a school setting, it is not a one-stop shop. There are always different software out there that does not easily connect to the data managed through Blackbaud Education Management Solutions and therefore there is repeated manual data entry found in multiple offices campuswide.

We use all of the solutions provided by Blackbaud's education management suite: Academics, Enrollment Management, Extracurriculars, and School Website. In addition, we use Smart Tuition, Raiser's Edge, Financial Edge, and several integrations with other products, such as Magnus Health, Turnitin, and Blackboard's Connect 5. We use it across our whole organization, which includes students from preschool through high school, the admission office, the business office, the nurse's office, and the school website. It has solved the huge problem that we had in supporting multiple databases across campus. The flow of information among various divisions and departments is basically automatic now.
  • From application to enrolling students into classes, Blackbaud allows management of the admission and enrollment process to flow easily and quickly. It allows everyone to receive timely, accurate information about where applicants stand on their journey to becoming students. It also provides an easy mechanism for communication with applicant families.
  • The grading system in Blackbaud's education management solution is totally customizable. We have used the system for twelve years and it has allowed us to make changes requested by new administrators while retaining the historical records for report cards and transcripts.
  • Blackbaud's integration of its school website software with the rest of the education management solutions allows for entering information once and pushing it to various locations as needed. It is a huge time-saver while ensuring accurate, timely information available wherever you need it.
  • Sometimes administrators request data that is in the system, but difficult to extract. For example, if we need numbers of students enrolled in specific classes going back for several years, it would require running a report for each year one at a time. Reporting is improving, but I feel that, if it is in the system, we should be able to extract it.
  • Teachers would like a friendlier interface in creating course pages. Google Classroom is simpler for them to use, so it's hard to get them to buy into creating a course page only in Blackbaud. Parents, however, wish that they would stick to Blackbaud only, so they can learn one system and be done.
  • Athletics (extracurricular solution) could use some improvement, making the interface easier for coaches.
It works well for an independent school. I do not know that it would work for a large, multi-campus organization or a large school district. It has allowed us to survive many years without adding staff in several areas. It lets staff do more in the same amount of time.

Yes, our operational efficiency is so far above where we were that it is almost meaningless to compare. We have automated many processes: applications, contracts, enrollment, scheduling, tuition payment, and many more. We can see the large picture in grading and attendance because the data has been collected online. We do not have to worry about a lot of backup procedures because Blackbaud does it for us. Communication is very much improved.

Our admissions office, registrar, faculty and finance office all use Blackbaud's education management solutions, to different degrees. It proved a necessary tool for de-siloing information across these offices and making the flow of data between these offices more efficient.
  • Moving constituents from Inquiry, to Applicants, to Students and on to Alumni is much easier for us now than it used to be.
  • The tools for students and faculty to keep track of their assignments, activities and scheduling commitments are robust and easy to use.
  • The integration between the teacher gradebooks and marking period grade-entry is useful.
  • Blackbaud's legacy products, Education Edge and Faculty Access for the Web/Netclassroom, had features that are now missing in the new Education Management System. Custom reporting, lists and queries are still lacking. There are some data points that simply can't be accessed/reported on using the current tools. Blackbaud is apparently working on delivering better features in these areas but progress is slow.
  • Customization, in general, could be greatly improved. Every school works differently, and as an example the GPA calculations, transcript and report card builders, though improved, are still not anywhere near as flexible as they should be to fit the needs of some schools.
  • Implementations are often rushed and the quality of support you get while implementing varies widely depending on which implementation consultant you get. Blackbaud needs to re-structure the timeframe of their implementations to address the realities of K-12 school life, meaning schools should get to keep their implementation consultant through a full calendar year (or more!) and there should be more guidance as to where to start, first, with an implementation when a school is purchasing the full product suite. Currently there is bureaucratic pressure to complete all implementations within 6 months of purchase, which is a really tall order for most K-12 schools.
  • The lack of "data-polishing" features is really astonishing and actually a step backwards from Blackbaud's previous product (Education Edge). This has added to the number of hours we spend making our data meet our standards.
The Blackbaud Education Management Solutions (K-12 ON Solutions) are good for schools that have had issues with syncing data across multiple products. Bb EMS is not well-suited for schools with highly complex scheduling needs or unconventional grading.
