Being a Microsoft shop, the integration of OneDrive into the OS has been a boon to users. We have leveraged this integration by configuring the service to include the users desktop and documents folders to provide a seamless "cloud backup" of their important files. Through this, users always have access to their most important documents regardless of the device being used.
  • Simple user interface. Used in conjunction with the Windows OS, users simply need to know how to place a file in a folder and not have to deal with a complicated client.
  • Easily noticeable visual cues regarding the status of a document sync to the cloud drive.
  • Full Integration into other Microsoft products , e.g Office.
  • The web interface provides a familiar look to people accustomed to using Windows devices and an easy interface to learn for those who are not.
  • Better integration into other Operating Systems, e.g OSX and Linux. While a client can integrate with these, the experience is not as seamless as that in Windows.
  • Better image tools allowing online processing of pictures.
  • The ability to stream music from the service.
Working on the go has become the norm and OneDrive provides a valuable tool for individuals who need to be constantly on the move but may not want to carry a laptop with them that has the ability to share and edit documents from multiple devices. OneDrive has the capacity to enhance the productivity of either an individual or team. With online Office tools, users are no longer bound by their device and are free to work at home or at the beach.

  • OneDrive has made device replacement faster as users no longer have many files stored locally.
  • Increase in productivity as users are now able to work from anywhere on practically any device they choose.
  • Decrease in downtime as users are no longer hampered by a faulty device. They can simply switch to another device and continue working.
While other cloud storage services exist, some with better compatibility to other Operating Systems, the integration of OneDrive has proven to be its winning feature. Organizations that use Microsoft products heavily would find it a valuable asset, with its familiar interface and plethora of features online. Users don't see it as something additional to learn but as an extension of a product they are already familiar with.
Users vary from general staff to managerial positions, with sales staff thrown in as well. As such, usage varies based on on staff functions follows:
1. For general staff the service is mainly used in as an online cloud backup for work related files. This allows staff to work on documents on their workstation without having to worry about uploading to a file server until they are ready to do so.
2. For managerial the above applies along with the ability to use the online features of document manipulation to work wherever and when ever they choose
3. For sales staff a combination of the previously mentioned features as well as some clever implementation to reduce downtime when replacing devices.
10
For effective support, staff trained in the support of general computer use and repair with knowledge of how cloud storage works are an asset. Such technicians should have a minimum 1-2 years OS support as special configurations with one drive require support personnel be familiar with how OS configuration is done.
  • Allowing users to work from any device at anytime, anywhere.
  • Provide a collaborative platform that allows document sharing that works with existing company technologies
  • Real time sync of files and documents to the cloud service allowing the user to seamlessly move between devices
  • Reduce user downtime by syncing a users laptop\pc user folders to the cloud service. Through this, an indirect backup is achieved allowing a new laptop\PC to be issued without have to worry about file backups
  • Possible elimination of laptops\pc's for mobile users in favor of tablets with OneDrive as the primary storage for files.
  • Possible sharing of a single account among, for example, sales personnel and their support staff. Allows real time access to their files as they are uploaded. Of course, the necessary security will need to be in place to prevent documents from being incorrectly shelved.
Due to its tight integration into the Microsoft ecosystem and its bundling into the Office 365 service, continued use of the product is all but guaranteed. Unless there's a shift away from Microsoft, I can see no competing product offering the same ease of use and integrations taking the place of OneDrive

This is for OneDrive for Business. Note: I use OneDrive as cloud file repository and personal backup solution that has both PC and mobile access. At work, my colleagues (within the department) and my project team use OneDrive for Business to sync our project files and work files as a backup solution.
  • Seamless syncing and backup over a corporate network. There is no need for manual upload and download of files anymore.
  • Access is controlled via MS Active Directory. Our files cannot be accessed by others outside our department/project team.
  • Secured environment. Syncing to the server is over our corporate network and VPN from home.
  • Setting up folders can be done easily from SharePoint without much configuration.
  • Need to install OneDrive for Business. This is installed together with our Office Enterprise in our work laptops. We need the IT team to install this or [get it] pushed down from central management.
  • The disk quota is unknown. Unlike OneDrive at home, the available space is not really visible to the client.
  • After setting up the folder, it is hard to move it to another folder - for example moving from My Documents to D:/ Drive to reclaim space.
This is a good solution to store/backup work files that need a secure connection and servers, especially if the files are not allowed to be stored on public clouds. It would be inappropriate to use it as full laptop backup solution as the server side storage folder will be dependent on the SharePoint installation.

  • As an end user, OneDrive has been super useful for team and department use. As there is no actual access to the value of investment, ROI is not available.
  • Microsoft Server
Prior to OneDrive, our official backup recommendation was to copy important files to a personal folder on a mapped Network Drive. OneDrive blows this out of the water in terms of convenience and ease of use.

  • Department files repository

  • Sending large files as a workaround to email file size limitation.
This product is tightly integrated with our SharePoint and Outlook environment. The fact that it is as convenient as a cloud service that we are used to, but more secure is a winner.

  • Setting up. Just click OneDrive from SharePoint and follow the OneDrive wizard.

Yes, but I don't use it
It is really set up and forget. Nothing more.

A few users are currently using OneDrive as a way to quickly and securely access business documents that are edited both in office, at home and on the road.
  • Easily integrated into Windows
  • Provides a convenient way to access documents among PCs
  • Give ability to share documents with others
  • Great multi-platform support
  • Better previews
  • More space for cost
  • Better backup abilities
Best use is when access to documents may be needed across multiple devices whenever needed.

  • Quicker access to files
  • Ability to share with outsiders
Feels like OneDrive is more secure than Google Drive. OneDrive also feels like it is a better integrated solution across multiple platforms.

There are two main IT staff memebers, programmers, that are responsible for any questions or concerns that come up about OneDrive.

OneDrive is being used primarily by our social media and reporting teams. It is used to store and send reports, artwork, and other assets to members across the team and to the client.
  • OneDrive has the capacity to hold a lot of files.
  • The search function is pretty easy to use.
  • You can store and view metadata on assets.
  • It can handle multiple people logged into the same account at the same time.
  • You can easily create links to share work with other people.
  • I am unable to upload folders to OneDrive (I use a Mac), so I have to go folder by folder to upload content.
I think OneDrive is great if you're sharing an account with multiple people on a team, but it can be a bit cumbersome to use if you have multiple folders to upload from a Mac.

  • We are able to share and access files off our company network, so even if you're away from work and/or it's a weekend, anyone on the team can access files.
  • Sometimes it can be a part time job for the person managing the account because they need to manage permissions and folders.
  • The client is easily able to access content meant for them.
I feel like Dropbox is easier to use and it allows for folders to be uploaded. Xinet has better security control over folders and assets. You can set usage rights so certain assets are available for certain periods of time.
Creative, reporting, client management, and project leads.

I don't think you need any specific skills, you just need to be organized. Some people due to the nature of their jobs will become more familiar with the program than others and will understand specific nuances.
  • We work with Microsoft.
  • The client uses it.
  • You can access files outside the company network.
  • Large capacity for storage.
  • Teams can use one account.
  • Sharing creative files between creative team members.
  • Organizing large assets on a monthly basis.
  • Searching and finding old assets
  • To share files between teams.
  • To share animations/video and their working files between teams.
The company will definitely renew the use of OneDrive. I currently work on another on another team and we don't really utilize it, so I'm not sure if I'll be using it again.
  • You can drag and drop files straight into OneDrive.
  • The search function is simple.
  • Sharing is easy.
  • I was not able to upload folders.
  • I was not able to sync OneDrive to my computer.
  • Sometimes the upload/download times were too long.
It's an easy program to use, but it didn't always meet my needs. I needed to be able to upload folders. Sometimes it took too long to upload large files. I couldn't sync the program to my computer. I didn't have control over permissions. And if I signed into Skype with a different account, I would get logged out of my team's OneDrive account.
