Community Insights

TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

Easy to navigate: Users have found OnPlan to be user-friendly and intuitive, with a shallow learning curve that makes it easy for their teams to adapt. They appreciate the seamless integration with GSheets and the powerful value it provides through its database and direct connections to platforms like NetSuite, Salesforce, and BambooHR.

Effortless model updates: Users like that they can effortlessly update their models directly in GSheets without any concerns about compatibility with OnPlan. This feature allows them to easily make changes such as funding delays or employee allocations.

Tailored for non-profit organizations: OnPlan is particularly beneficial for non-profit organizations as it enables planning by project/program and fund, which is essential for their operations.

Long Implementation Process: According to one user, the full implementation of OnPlan has taken longer than expected due to the adjustments required for multi-dimensional database compatibility. While this may be a minor drawback, it is important to note that the extra time invested in the implementation process can lead to a more tailored and effective solution for organizations.

Lack of Integration with QuickBooks Desktop: Some users have mentioned that they were disappointed by the lack of automatic integration with QuickBooks Desktop. However, they expressed their excitement about the future integration with NetSuite, which indicates potential improvements in integrating with other popular accounting software.

May Not Accommodate Complex Financial Models: It has been noted by reviewers that OnPlan might not be able to accommodate every possible scenario or use case, making it potentially unsuitable for organizations with very complex financial models or requirements. While OnPlan offers robust financial modeling capabilities, users dealing with intricate financial scenarios may need additional customization options or more advanced features specifically designed for complex models.

OnPlan

OnPlan is our single source of truth for all financial data points and metrics such as cost of a particular vendor (incl. history), cash, runway, CAC, ARR, churn rates, FTE costs, etc. In addition, we use OnPlan for the following:
  • Financial planning and budgeting
  • Controlling of accounting quality - detection of erroneous GL entries
  • Scenario planning for investment decisions
  • Board deck and investor reporting (variance analysis)
  • Integration with QBO and SFDC
  • Integration with Google sheets and presentations
  • User friendly and polished UE
  • Easy Excel like syntax for modelling
  • Flexibility to create custom formulas
  • User roles and permissions
  • Handling of fiscal year vs. calendar as well as switching between monthly/quarterly views
Cons
  • Chart library or templates to quickly create polished Google charts
  • More collaboration features for comments and questions to team members
OnPlan is well suited for finance teams looking to maintain control of their corporate/financial models. Every model can be exported to Excel. In particular, for early-stage to mid-stage companies, OnPlan provides a powerful and inexpensive solution that allows for automation and customization. Another strong argument for OnPlan is their experienced CSM/IM team that helps to build the first model and acts as a sounding board with insights to improve the models.

OnPlan might be less powerful for large organizations operating across multiple divisions, countries, and entities as this requires sophisticated consolidation processes and standardization, which might be difficult to maintain with OnPlan. Implementations depending on complexity can take longer due to the customization options and plethora of options to make models more accurate.
