Oracle managed DNS has been the most vital part of the engineering process of our cloud product. It is being used by our organization's cloud department. It addresses the domains of all our customers which is in a way directly affecting the customer.
  • Faster DNS provisioning
  • Rapid DNS Change propagation
  • Highly available
  • REST APIs available which makes it easy to use
  • Dyn UI was a bit heavy to use. Improvement in UI will make the product seamless.
  • Sometimes there are errors while updating the Dyn from REST APIs, so improving it will add a plus point to the product.
  • Traversing between pages of Dynects was difficult from the UI.
Oracle managed DNS becomes very heavy when there is an ample amount of DNS being managed. However, the DNS creation and updating takes very less time to propagate and is very easy to use. So, for an organization, where there is a modest amount of DNS to manage, it works very well and gives a splendid experience. So, considering the complexity of managing the DNS for an IT company Oracle Dyn managed DNS is the best option to opt.
  • DNS update was very quick so downtime from a customer's perspective was very less.
  • Oracle Dyn managed DNS made it very easy to manage almost more than one lakh DNS.
  • Response time of the UI was very much because of which it was sometimes making difficult to traverse through pages and in turn, was inconvenient when there is business criticality.
As our organization had an ample amount of DNS to manage, it was quite inconvenient when it comes to Amazon Route 53 or any other alternatives as the change propagation time was pretty much high as compared to Oracle Dyn Managed DNS. And when it comes to the huge customer base and customer satisfaction, the organization has to be wise at choosing the right tools and the right tool which fitted our requirements was Oracle Dyn managed DNS.

We use Dyn DNS for all our external DNS resolution. It is managed strictly by IT but many other departments have needs that are addressed by Dyn. The service has been in use for about 5 years and has been very solid. No major outages or security concerns. It was used to replace our own external DNS server which was often problematic.
  • The portal is friendly and easy to use.
  • Their support is good if you have any questions or issues, they got back to us quickly.
  • The service supports two factor auth which is a requirement for external services these days.
  • The ability to switch between basic and advanced views is nice.
  • Sometimes users get locked out quickly if they forget their password. It's an inconvenience but not a problem with the service itself.
  • If you are not technical or understand the different types of services and records then you need to learn that first as the service won't explain that.
  • The integration between the customer portal and the services portal is not great. I can't always switch between one or the other. Acts like they are completely different sites/services without great integration.
It takes the worry out of DNS services. It's quick to get up and running, easy to use and solid. We use it for service records, websites, website redirects, mail records etc. It handles all our needs. Also, their support team is good, if you are reaching near the limit of your service they will reach out to advise and help you select the next tier of service to ensure no interruption.
  • It has has a positive impact on our business as it's quick and easy to use and stable.
  • We spend a lot less time worrying and managing our DNS now that it's hosted by DYN.
  • The ROI is definitely positive. While it's not free we feel we get good value from the service.
We haven't used any other external services like DYN
We have contacted them a few times in the past. Once to resolve an ongoing records issue and they were quick and helpful. The other few times have been in regard to upgrades to the service as we outgrew the basic package we started with. Both times the staff were able to respond in a timely manner and able to assist quickly.
The service portal is easy to use if you understand DNS and the different types of data and records it uses. The customer portal that links the accounts and services is also nice and clear and easy to use. Its quick and simple to add additional users or services to the account.

All users with access to Dyn are in IT

There are no dedicated resources just for Dyn but the IT Infrastructure team is responsible for its use and services.
  • DNS services
  • Website re-directs
  • MX records for mail services
It does exactly what we need, its fast, secure and reliable.
  • DNS record addition, creation, and deleting
  • Creating new DNS zones
  • Adding new users and access to the portal

We use Traffic Director to ensure that visitors to our website are routed to the servers that will provide them with the best experience. As we scale out globally we want to ensure that all of our users are able to access our services as quickly an smoothly as possible. In addition, some countries have regulatory requirements that we treat traffic or data from their citizens differently. We can use Traffic Director to ensure that all of those rules are followed. Lastly, when something does go awry with our technical infrastructure, Traffic Director quickly detects this and sends users to the next best (and available) endpoint.
  • Responds quickly to changes in the health of your infrastructure
  • Very fast and completely transparent to the end user
  • Geographical segmentation of traffic can be done down to the specific country/state level
  • API allows settings to be changed quickly with remote automation
  • Learning your way around the configuration can be difficult at first. It is one of those things where there are so many knobs you can turn that it is overwhelming and takes time to figure out where each setting is that you want to modify.
  • Misconfigured & failing health checks can be difficult to debug. The output that is provided to show you why a health check fails can be misleading in some cases or just too vague in others.
  • No way to replicate the configuration to another provider. If you want to have a secondary DNS provider for redundancy, there is no way to automate the syncing of Traffic Director configuration. Normal DNS records can be as they are in a standard format, but there is no standard format for what Traffic Director does.
If you need to [track] internet traffic coming from different places in the world to different endpoints, and you care about how detailed you can get with that segmentation, then this is the right product for you. If your services are globally scaled and you either host your end points with multiple vendors, or you just don't want your host to also be your DNS provider, Traffic Director is perfect for your needs.

If you only need to route traffic based on large segments, like continent or hemisphere, then this might not be the best choice. There are other products that are less expensive and may meet your needs in a better way.
  • Dyn Traffic Director has allowed us to quickly respond to changes in our infrastructure in a cost effective manner.
  • When we have needed to quickly scale into a new global area to meet customer needs, Traffic Director has allowed us to smoothly shift around our traffic to keep things running. Later, if the demand subsides we can shift everything back to how it was before. This has made it so we can respond to global needs quickly.
AWS Route 53 did not allow us to be specific enough in how we segment global traffic. It only allows you to select continents or large segments of the world. Also, we currently host all of our infrastructure with AWS and felt if something were to go wrong there, we should be able to quickly change our DNS to point somewhere else if needed.
