  • OEM is key for backup monitoring, scheduling and configuring.
  • OEM notifications are very useful for ensuring hardware and Oracle Database availability.
  • Upgrading OEM versions is quite difficult and is a big negative. It is high risk to upgrade because if the upgrade goes wrong, OEM as the central repository can be offline for a long period, in order recover. This is often not allowable as monitoring downtime but be minimized.

  • Positive impact is immediately visible as response time to crisis events goes down as OEM monitors Oracle databases and products on 24/7 basis and raises alerts to take automatic preventive action or to alert the DBA of the upcoming incident or event that can cause downtime.

  • Positive: Alerting features. Without this we would have to be a 24x7 shop with someone always manning the helm. With the alerting feature we can define levels of alerts and only get the most pressing alerts sent out.
  • ROI: OEM is free, so the ROI is whatever you make of it.
