We use the tool to help with web content particularly in the area of investor relations. We use a 3rd party IR firm and share content in the design of various web sites. This saves us considerable time and effort between company personnel and IR firm personnel. We may also use it in the future for its mobile capabilities; that is yet to be determined.
The system works very reliably and support functions are most helpful.
  • Timely management of web content including examining future designs and enhancements.
  • Targeting of customer groups.
  • Analytical capabilities to help define usage and gather info for future refinements.
  • More customer examples to help new users understand the capabilities better.
Customer engagement and content sharing, analytical evaluation and use of analytics to help drive better optimization and delivery of content targeted better to specific user segments.

  • Considerable time sharing in managing content between sites which are located across multiple time zones.
  • We don't formally evaluate ROI on projects such as this as there tend to be too many assumptions that have to be made.
We think Oracle's solution is more flexible, more robust, has broader support infrastructure and good user community.

Oracle WebCenter Sites, is a WEM platform for companies to build their internet/intranet sites. It has a WSISYG form, which makes it easy for the content contributor to create/edit content. It also comes with user management and can be integrated with LDAP if required. Also it has an inbuilt workflow, which allows the company to define their content flow the way they want it.

It is very well suited for any web related use, be it intranet or internet. The WSISYG content author form makes it easy to train content authors to use the system. The workflow is well integrated with publishing, making it easy to manage the content flow. The user ACL makes it easy to assign roles to a user and provide appropriate rights to a user in the workflow to act on the asset. It can be easily integrated with social media like Facebook and Twitter via a community plugin. The template coding is in Java, so the existing developers can be trained to use Oracle WebCenter Sites (WCS).

  • Content Author finds it easy to use
  • Publishing is integrated with user ACL and workflow making it easy
  • Existing Java developers can be retrained to code in WCS
There are lot of WCM products available in the market, some free and some licensed. But for a organisation using more Oracle products and on Java technology, WCS is the best in class, for intranet and internet needs. It has everything which is required for a web application. Also it can be well integrated with other platforms with Oracle Document Cloud/Oracle Content/Oracle Identity Manager and a lot more. Its a well integrated product. It can also be integrated with social media using a community plugin. It also comes with its own search and analytics tools. The templates are pure JSP and can be easily coded by Java developers using the development guide. Its based on Java, so writing custom applications and integrating is easy.

WCS was the best fit in the architecture given the integration required with existing systems. It provided us with flexibility of using an integration component or write your own. It is built on Java platform, so it's easy to train the existing developers to use WCS.
I would look at all the integration points and publishing. Also I would look at the caching capacity, and how well the site performs with a high number of visitors. Lastly the most important one, is it cloud ready? Does it support the cloud and multi - scaling? Does it come with a service module inbuilt, so that it can be used as service by other platforms?

Not for simple projects

It is not used.
  • Scalability
  • Well supported
  • Stable
  • Creating new content is not so easy
  • Publishing is not trivial
  • In my opinion documentation is weak
  • I think there are cheaper solutions then WCS
It is better suited to larger projects where stability and scalability are key problems, but for simple projects it requires too much effort by the developer.

For my company's purposes, WCS is much too complicated so, after a period of testing, we decided to use other products.
It is too complicated. For my projects I don't need to use such a powerful tool.
