It is very well suited for any web related use, be it intranet or internet. The WSISYG content author form makes it easy to train content authors to use the system. The workflow is well integrated with publishing, making it easy to manage the content flow. The user ACL makes it easy to assign roles to a user and provide appropriate rights to a user in the workflow to act on the asset. It can be easily integrated with social media like Facebook and Twitter via a community plugin. The template coding is in Java, so the existing developers can be trained to use Oracle WebCenter Sites (WCS).

Oracle WebCenter Sites is very well suited to presenting marketing content in all shapes and forms, including mobile, an in a corporate web site. Oracle WebCenter Sites can also manage small product catalogs easily. Important things to consider when selecting a CMS:
  • How important is the ease with which my business users update content?
  • How often are updates made?
  • How distributed are my business contributors?
  • How important is preview in my organization's workflow and publishing process?

Oracle WebCenter Sites is a content management system well-structured and robust, suitable for large projects. This product is suitable mainly for static content, not for transactional processes (eg form with step). It is less appropriate for small portals with low number of visitors, which you do not want to invest a lot in terms of maintenance.

About Oracle WebCenter Sites

Oracle WebCenter Sites is the new name for FatWire which Oracle acquired in 2011. WebCenter Sites supports multi-channel brand-consistent marketing efforts across multiple sites that are mobile accessible to end users. Integration with other content management and e-commerce sites is supported for web publishing. Interactive sites are created via integration with social networking, blogs, polls, commenting, rating and reviews. Visitor analytics drive marketing optimization efforts.

Oracle WebCenter software subsumes three packages, WebCenter Content (the ECM component), WebCenter Sites (this product), and WebCenter Portal (self-service portal with content delivery) that are frequently bundled. WebCenter products are targeted and enterprises and larger entities, and are part of Oracle's effort to integrate their content management offerings with E-Business Suite, Peoplesoft, and JD Edwards, for a more comprehensive centrally managed environment.
