What is Paycom?

For 25 years, Paycom Software, Inc. (NYSE:PAYC) has offered businesses and their employees HR and payroll technology that provides direct access to their data. Paycom's Beti® technology enables employees to do their own payroll, so they are guided to find and fix costly errors before payroll submission. From onboarding and benefits enrollment to talent management, Paycom’s software streamlines processes, and gives employees access to their own HR information. Paycom can now serve businesses of all sizes in the U.S. and internationally.

Paycom states they have approximately 36,820 clients across the United States (as of Dec. 31, 2023), up 1% from the prior year. On April 15, 2014, Paycom became a public company with its shares opening for trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PAYC. In early 2020, the company joined the S&P 500.

We use Paycom for all aspects of our HR, Payroll and Fiscal operations. Paycom has continued to allow us to move to a paperless system. It is able to keep up with our growth and the different modules allow us to streamline processes and have everything housed in one location. We especially like the Paycom phone app which allows our remote workers and management to continue to use the system wherever they are at in the day.

In my experience, Paycom does a nice job building and implementing your new system with your team and line staff. They have dedicated staff to work with you on a weekly basis and field the questions you have. They stay with you past your first couple payrolls and continue to train and troubleshoot with you.

I currently use Paycom to manage current employees. Also to process new hires onboarding. I review timecards and approve/deny requests. Paycom is also helpful to research information for VOEs, Garnishments, etc.
It's one of the easiest processing systems to use for Payroll, Billing, Onboarding, and Management for a company in different industries.

  • Keeps track of edits
  • Options to show where to make a change such as 'report to'
  • Suggests to show what is needed to make changes such as name change, etc
When searching for someone who works in a specific location.. you can use Filters to search. This is a great feature.
Having the options to change views from Client side to an Employee portal view helps when an employee is describing a page they are having issues on. It's easier for myself to see what they see to better assist them in.

Centennial currently uses Paycom as a full-scope HRM system. We presently utilize all modules of the system. This includes payroll, benefits administration,time and attendance, COBRA administration, E-Verify, talent acquisition and pre-employment screening, talent management, performance management, and ACA reporting.

  • Setting up manager access is a clumsy and burdensome process. I would like to see Paycom revise this process so that system administrators do not have to set employees up with separate manager login credentials for client side access. It would be great if employees could toggle between their ESS and manager profiles without having to first set up their client side access with a separate set of login credentials.
Paycom has been a great fit for our organization. The customer service model really sets it apart from other systems. Having a dedicated account specialist and a team of backup specialists is almost like having another arm to our HR department!

Paycom is used to process and maintain all of the companies payroll functions. Paycom files quarterly and yearly tax returns for state and federal agencies. Paycom Paycom submits and maintains all garnishments types. Paycom is used continuously on a daily basis for all other payroll functions. Paycom is also used for all other HR functions such a onboarding new hires, talent management, benefits, accruals etc...

Paycom is our primary HRM. We have been using it at the company for several years, but in the last year have expanded from just using it for payroll to using it for Onboarding, New Hire Training, Scheduling, and Time Off Requests.

Paycom makes it easy to pay employees and reduces payroll-related paperwork by storing paystubs in the cloud. Our hourly employees use it to record hours and submit them to their supervisors. We have recently expanded our use of its available functions to include new hire onboarding and training. Paycom has enabled us to quit printing new hire paperwork packets and instead move to electronic forms for things like tax forms, I9 Employment Eligibility Verification, and benefit enrollment forms, to name a few. We have also implemented using it as a PTO request and approval manager. It has simplified the time-off request process and shaved the approval process down a lot.

The one place Paycom has room to improve is to make adding functionality more accessible. Every time our HR Manager adds something new, it requires one or more meetings with a Paycom salesperson to get the functionality added. A more user friendly, online adoption system would probably encourage our HR manager to add more services to the system.

We will be using Paycom for payroll, scheduling, training, and most of HR related tasks. Providing our staff with the means to control what they work, verifying what they will be paid, and how they will be paid will be welcomed. The time savings in the elimination of redundancies, ease of record keeping, and great support are necessities that today's technology as provided by Paycom must deliver. All in all, Paycom will make for a better bottom line and a happier staff.

We use Paycom for payroll, expenses, paid time off, benefit enrollment, onboarding, employment documentation, etc.
We are able to streamline onboarding to a faster more efficient process. Which is the same with benefits, payroll, pto, and expenses.
The prior vendor did not have a robust phone app which prevented us from being as efficient. Now employees can make all changes on their phones. The PTO app allows employees to view their balance well into the future and it is easier to remove PTO. The managers love how easy it is to approve. The streamlined process for expenses is greatly appreciated. Being able to pull the file instead of manually enter is great. The onboarding system has saved over an hour per employee of HR's limited time as a 2 person department for 150 employees. Lastly, being able to have employees complete benefit enrollments on their phones has also reduced HR's onboarding process. Very efficient and effective system.
  • System is true single platform and updates in real time, more efficient. When I make a change it updates immediately. Never been kicked out of the system trying to change a function.
  • Reporting function is the best I've ever used. Easy to use and fast!
  • Easy to navigate, employees like the intuitiveness of the system
  • Better PTO system than competitors.
  • Best phone app on the market for payroll
  • Having pay effective date changes. In prior systems I would update a pay with an effective date and that would transfer to the time cards. This system if I update pay the timecards reflect updated pay through the last archived date. Makes it a little confusing.
  • PTO and Hourly rates- the system does not look at a 40 hour work week for hourly employees. If someone has worked 36 hours and then uses 8 hours of PTO on a Friday the system then calculates it as 36 hours regular pay and 4 hours pto. Prior systems would reduce the regular pay to 32 hours and keep PTO at 8. I have to manually change this when I run payroll.
  • Shift premium and PTO/Overtime- If a night shift employee uses PTO on a Friday with the same 36 hours issue, the overtime will go to the day shift rate rather than stay at the night shift time. The system shouldn't be looking at the PTO for OT calculation.
  • Navigating forms. They removed the bar at the top of the page with an arrow/drop down menu to a side bar. The side bar is less efficient in my opinion. I have to click on the bar to be able to change which function I'd like to use. The top navigation was better.
The reporting function is by far the best. Most HR departments utilize this function frequently. Having a great system for reporting is a necessity. The onboarding function is also great and alleviates a lot of stress on HR's end due to less work needed. The system itself functions really well. The benefits platform is the best I've used and is easy to create on my own. Prior I used to spend 3 hours in an excel spreadsheet and then was locked in. Paycom I can make changes in real time if I made a mistake. The amount of time Paycom has given back to me to complete other tasks is unmeasurable. The system has also increased security at our company and our auditing firms enjoy that there is well documentation that we can easily provide. Everyone all around is impressed with this software!

Paycom is utilized from beginning to end at our company - we utilize all the bells and whistles from Paycom! Time and Attendance is used for employee time tracking (we also use a stand-alone android clock on site). We also use Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, and Talent Management. PAFs are the link between all employee status changes. Applicant Tracking has been a blessing with filling our production roles quickly and accurately. The only issue I have truly had with Paycom is the sudden updates and little things that change that we are not aware of beforehand. It tends to cause a delay in our day-to-day payroll operations when that does occur.

In my opinion, over the past couple of years, Paycom has displayed significant internal issues that affected their ability to provide the service they are expected to. From payroll related errors to improper accruals to, what I think is horrible customer service. We have had our reps tell us that they were leaving the company because things were falling apart. We have had 6 different account reps in the past year and with each one, I feel the service got worse. We decided to leave Paycom and move to a more reliable service. During our departure, we were told a termination specialist would reach out which never happened. We received our termination checklist after they turned our service off. Come to find out there was some data. We were needing to gain access to that because we did not have any communication from them or proper procedures on how to end our relationship. We missed it. They are now extorting us for $5000 to pull one report. I would caution you from choosing Paycom and go with a more reliable source.
In my experience, they were unable to properly track accrual time for a Colorado sick pay, we ended up paying employees more time than they were due. I think this should’ve been an easy thing for Paycom to handle automatically without issues. In my opinion, they seem to have a hard time keeping good help as we have had six different account representatives within the past year. In my experience, emails for assistance go on answered.

As an administrator I’m enjoying the ease of use for our management team as well as ease of use for our employees. We are making use of all modules available to us.

I am the Director of HR at Accelerated Claims Inc and highly involved with Paycom usage on a daily basis. I use the Paycom system for our benefits administration, processing payroll, timekeeping, learning courses and so many other things. Paycom makes payroll easier than many other systems I have worked with in the past and puts a lot of emphasis on employees doing their own things (such as timekeeping) to take that off managers and make employees more accountable.

  • Clients would like the ability to create individual schedules each month/week for each employee inside the timekeeping section of Paycom
  • When hiring a new hire that previously worked with a company that utilized Paycom, we run into major issues with getting them logged in due to the email address being recognized from the previous employer
We have really enjoyed establishing a relationship with Paycom and utilizing their platform this year. Paycom has made payroll much easier for me to process. We have been extremely pleased with the support we get since we implemented Paycom at the beginning of 2023.

We use Paycom to manage our payroll, human resources (including benefits, garnishments, etc.). Paycom addresses the problems of timekeeping for our employees as well as managing the time off requests, benefit enrollments and weekly file feeds, COBRA administration and garnishment administration.

  • One-stop shop for employees to find anything that they need regarding their employment
  • Customer service is outstanding
  • Accessible by either web browser or phone app
  • Very good notifying us of upcoming events, complete with flow charts and a to-do list
  • During the open enrollment period, they are unreasonable about next year's benefit information.
  • It would be nice if the payroll information would be updated immediately upon completing the payroll process instead of the next day.
We do not have any workers outside of our home state, so I do not know how well Paycom handles multiple states, but a single state situation is done extremely well.

We use Paycom as our time, attendance, payroll, and benefits platform. However the system is able to house so much data that we're still working on "building it out" to include performance evaluation dates, certification and license renewal information. Putting payroll responsibilities into our employee's hands has made the payroll process much smoother than it was previously.

We use Paycom for payroll and HR services. It has been a welcome change from ADP where it used to take hours to run payroll and now I can do it in minutes.
  • Ease of use - Self managed HR or any modifications its quicker than ADP
  • Reporting- The reports are easier to use and customizable
  • Navigation within app - It's just better in every way
  • Little more flexibility with the employee self service for employees who refuse to use it.
I can honestly say that Paycom has saved me countless hours compared to ADP. The ease of use and the fact that its employees know what their talking about the first time makes it a night and day difference from ADP.

I use Paycom basically daily to manage my company's onboarding, offboarding and hiring. I love the ease of the onboarding process along with the multiple reports you can generate from an HR perspective or time management perspective. Not only is the platform great, but the quick response from the Paycom team to support any questions you may have is amazing. I definitely recommend and will continue to recommend the Paycom platform to those in similar organizations.

  • Create a way to edit/recall a PAF form
  • Answering phones calls could use some improvement
I feel that Paycom is very well suited in all areas of Human Resources. We are a school and we have a lot of unique scenarios that can sometimes be complex and Paycom has been very helpful in getting these issue addressed. My only complaint is that it's sometimes hard to talk to someone on the phone when you have an immediate need or just a quick question.

We use Paycom to manage compensation, benefits and all performance related activities. Paycom gets employees more involved with their information, reducing clerical errors. I love that everything can be handled under one platform.
  • It puts employees in charge of their information and requires them to be more proficient/effective with input.
  • Gives us one central location for benefits administration.
  • Has great options for reports that can be customized to the information you need.
  • It would be nice for changes made to an employee's timesheet to pull into an open payroll.
  • When an employee is terminated during a pay period, that employee doesn't always pull into the next payroll (even though the are due wages).
Hourly employees do a great job of managing their time information, but our salaried employees aren't require to clock in and out to get paid--but that information is necessary if an employee has a worker's comp or short term liability insurance claim.

I have transitional experience with three different companies from a payroll system to Paycom. Each transition was exceptional. The Paycom Team worked hand in hand with us every step of the way. Once we transitioned, the Paycom Team continued their availability. The time and money we save from our employees doing their payroll (Beti) is valuable. Our Payroll Team has saved so many hours doing payroll that it has smoothed our other processes and they are accomplishing so much more in other areas. By having the integrated Paycom system, from sourcing to termination has never been easier. No dual entry systems, or spreadsheets. The Tax Credit will almost pay for the Paycom system.

  • In displaying the effective dates for pay rates, it would seem more beneficial to display them on Form 1 rather than selecting another area to review the effective date.
  • COBRA - Generating COBRA should come in as a notification if we forget to do it after we submit a PAF. Extra layer of protection that COBRA does get generated.
  • Being able to export all courses in Paycom, in order to see a full list of course. names
Paycom has suited the three industries I have transitional experience. Health, Distributing and Automotive.

I absolutely love Paycom. I have worked with them at 2 different employers, and they will forever be my number 1 choice. Implementation was made so easy. Customer Service is wonderful and can actually help me to get any problems I may have solved quickly. They have improved our entire Payroll process and has made all of our employees so happy!

My organization uses paycom to manage time off requests, benefits enrollments, paycheck documentation, & learning. In the "Payroll" section, you can view past pay stubs, check your pay rate, get year-end tax forms, test a sample paycheck and more. Under "Time-Off Requests", you can view your time off accruals and request time off. Those are the two sections we use most often.
  • Benefits Enrollment - it makes the process of enrolling for medical, dental, etc. super easy and straightforward
  • Payroll - I really enjoyed the functionality of "test sample paycheck" whenever I was an hourly employee because it allowed me to budget for following weeks by seeing the exact amount my paycheck would be with deductions.
  • Requesting Time Off - the layout for requesting time off and viewing accruals is very straightforward and user friendly. I like the calendar view it gives to submit requests.
  • Performance Reviews - we originally did performance reviews in paycom, but switched that to another platform. It doesn't have an autosave function that I'm aware of and the layout is not visually pleasing if you're sitting and writing long text.

Paycom is a great multi-function platform. I would recommend using it with as many of its features as possible to limit the amount of different software employees are required to learn. Paycom is user friendly and offers quite a lot of different functions including learning paths, time-off requests, performance reviews, benefits enrollments, documents, paychecks and checklists.

We use Paycom for payroll HRIS, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, recently added Paycom Learning. Purchasing Paycom gave us an applicant tracking system that we did not have. We are very excited about the Learning module! Having all of their products working together has made our department much more efficient.
  • Easy to use.
  • The specialists for help are extremely knowledgeable.
  • All modules working together makes my team more efficient.
  • Initial training could have been given more time. Position Management was not thoroughly reviewed, and we have come to realize that this is a major system driver.
  • A lot of the initial set up was done for us, which seemed great at the time, but when it came time for us to handle items, we struggled.
  • The cost is higher than most other systems and the billing is very confusing
We are in California, and our laws are very different than federal or many other states. We have struggled a bit regarding this, but most recently have been given a payroll specialist that works only with CA clients, and we have seen a big improvement. I don't like that the specialist's change so often.
