What is Pendo.io?

Pendo is a product experience platform that helps software product teams deliver products users love. With Pendo, product teams can answer questions like which features are customers using? Which features are they ignoring? Which ones are driving delight and which are causing pain and confusion? From these same insights, users can set up in-app messages, guides and walkthroughs without any coding to help users get the most value from products. Pendo.io does a great job at usage tracking and in-product communications. It is a reasonably stable platform/tool that can be relied on. It's great for setting up tracking, data generation, and behavior analysis. It doesn't do such a great job at having a lot of custom reporting options directly in the platform which means we normally tend to export data outside of Pendo for reporting that is more tailored to our needs.

I don't think Pendo.io will be able to 100% replace our onboarding workflow, but for our new users from existing customers, we are launching onboarding guides to help that segment of new users receive more on-demand, self-service training. It is a little tricky to still figure out segments based on our app's ability to have custom user roles, and it would be great to be able to create segments based on whether a user's page has a specific button appear rather than tracking their clicks, since that will inevitably leave some users out of the segment.

Pendo.io is great for teams trying to collect product or website analytics at a high level like understanding where users are navigating through an experience. Where it lacks is more in qualitative research insights (but maybe that's not part of their product strategy direction). Due to that reason, we partner with a different vendor for deeper insights we can't get from Pendo.io.

When you have a SaaS product or any web-based application/product that needs some kind of walkthrough or guide, Pendo.io is a fantastic tool because it provides you with a way to lead the customer through your product. For complex or even rather simple sites, Pendo.io makes for a great addition because you decide how much control/expertise you want the customer to have.
