Pexels has always been one of my go-to sources for stock assets. Stock assets can be SO cheesy and expensive, but Pexels is neither. The models are diverse and modern, and the photography styles are more realistic and photojournalistic and not that awful studio-bright-light-fake look that so many stock companies have used for years. Plus, the search functionality continues to improve all the time.
  • Realistic, non-cheesy photos and videos.
  • Easy to filter results based on orientation.
  • Search by hex code and color! GAME CHANGER!
  • Simple explanation of license terms.
  • FREE!
  • To be honest, I can't think of anything.
  • The search functionality and explore options are robust!
1. Small businesses with small or non-existent budgets still need assets to create content 2. Individual content makers or freelancers who need stock assets 3. Corporate eLearning wants to modernize and replace all old-fashioned, outdated, brightly lit studio photos with more realistic and relevant imagery that will resonate with modern audiences and learners.
  • The quality of the assets.
  • The search and filtering makes finding what I need FAST.
  • It's kept down the cost of our internal training.
  • It allows us to supplement our external training content with some non-cheesy stock.
  • It means we don't have to go through procurement; we just get some stock assets for our content creators.
I would put Pexels library up against Unsplash. iStock and Shutterstock are both SUPER pricey, and I haven't used either of them in YEARS simply due to the fact that they remain to be cost-prohibitive. Pixabay is fine, but the quality seems far less curated or just like more low-quality stuff is allowed through. I could be wrong; it's been about six months since I have actively used Pixabay. We have also used Storyblocks, but I think the search and filtering and just ease of use of Pexels outweigh most of them. ALSO, IT'S FREE. It really can't be beaten.
2
Customer support/L&D: we use Pexels to find supplemental stock assets to jazz up our internal training content and our customer education materials.
No skills or people required to support Pexels. It's literally the easiest thing ever lol.
  • internal L&D
  • customer education
  • marketing videos
  • more marketing

I use Pexels to find stock imagery for marketing such as our website, blog, and social media as well as for internal presentation decks. We need a selection of imagery and have a subscription with another stock photo provider but find it's important to have the variety that Pexels offers in addition to the other subscription. We like that Pexels has more variety and more creative imagery than other stock services. We also like how it constantly updates and allows us to support new photographers and artists. We find the diversity to be strong within Pexels' library which is very important to us.
  • Search is very easy
  • Variety of results
  • Support lesser-known or newer photographers and artists
  • Constant fresh content added regularly
  • Diverse results and diverse artists and photographers
  • Different from other stock services
  • The ability to request specific photos or commission projects from photographers would be interesting
  • Image compression with the cropping and resizing options would be great (optimize file size for web)
  • More metadata would be great
Pexels is great for creative and non-typical stock imagery for marketing and social media. As a B2B company we use imagery to convey emotion, aesthetics, and trust (rather than to showcase a particular product) so having a variety of imagery and constantly fresh imagery to choose from to help us stand out is important to us. Pexels is an excellent resource in addition to other stock photo services to keep our content engaging and different from our competition.
  • Search and filtering
  • Constantly fresh content
  • Featuring artist and photographers
  • Creative content
  • Different from other stock libraries
  • Cropping and resizing prior to download
  • Support new photographers
  • Stand out from our competitions
  • New content regularly
  • Faster to find imagery we like
  • Option to download for free or support artist with donation
Pexels has more original, creative imagery from new and emerging photographers from all over the world. Pexels constantly adds new content so there's more variety and less likely we'll use the same stock image as others - we get to stand out as original. Supports photographers and creatives. Search and filtering makes finding what we need easy and there are lots to choose from.

The users of Pexels at our organization are mostly in Marketing, but we also sometimes use stock images in internal communications and presentations. We have a small marketing department and a couple of employees that volunteer with marketing in their free time to provide subject-matter expertise. We mainly use Pexels for our blog and social media.

I use Pexels to create content for marketing, promotions, and other videos for social media channels. Pexels is so handy when it comes to providing stunning pictures or video montages.

Pexels is easy to use and very intuitive.
  • I like the high quality pictures and videos available at different resolution.
  • I like the categorization of content that's easy to browse through.
  • Attributing and licensing is very straightforward and easy.
  • Categorization can be further refined.
I love the site and the content it offers amateur creators like me. The curated content categories on offer in the 'Discover' tab are a great place to draw inspiration for your project. The challenges run periodically to keep us engaged and want to improve our skills.
  • The 'Discover' tab.
  • Licensing and attribution options.
  • Categorization engine.
  • Free content.
  • It has increased our view rates by at least 10%.
  • It has reduced our effort and time by approximately 25% helping us focus on creativity.
Pexels is very easy to use compared to some of the others I have used. It's intuitive in its user interface and the licensing/attribution process is simpler. The content selection is good.
