PhotoPad opens up on the Home tab, which has everything you need for basic photo editing. 
In the toolbar, you’ll find buttons for quick access to the most common actions used in PhotoPad, such as opening and saving files, cropping, resizing and rotating your image. You can also take a screenshot, make a collage, add an image overlay or start a batch process from here.

When you open an image in PhotoPad, you will see it in the canvas viewer. When multiple images are opened, select a thumbnail image at the bottom of the screen in the thumbnail browser to go back and forth between your opened images.

To the right of the canvas, the viewer is the Effects History and Layers panel. In this panel, you can view your original file, any edits that you have made, and the effects that have been added. This is where you can edit effect settings, rearrange the layers with drag and drop, delete an unwanted change, or revert to your original image. 

At the top of the screen, there are additional tabs for more tools. The Edit tab contains undo/redo, crop, rotate, flip, resizing, and batch tools. 

The Select tab has selection tools such as Rectangle, Oval, Polygon, Free Form, Magnet, and Wand. Crop to the selected area using the Crop Selection button or Fill the selected area with the Fill tool.
The Color tab allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast and exposure of an image, as well as, the saturation, hue, tint and color temperature. You can also adjust the color curve, balance and levels.

The Filters tab has color filter options such as Grayscale, Sepia, Color Boost, Orchid Light and more.
The Effects tab applies an artistic layer to your image. Use Regional Effects to apply an effect or color change to a small portion of your image. Add a Vignette or Local Focus to draw attention to the center of your image, or have fun with Lens Distortion and Warp.

The Tools tab is where you add other elements to your photo. You can add text, draw on your photo, stitch a panorama, merge images to create an HDR image, or add a frame as a final touch. 
On the Retouch tab, use Auto Fix, Noise Reduction, Red-eye removal, touch up, burn or dodge. And add color to an old black and white photo using colorize.

The Creative tab has a lot of fun tools. You have options such as creating a cartoon from an image or turning your photograph into a masterful oil painting. Make your own Paint by a number from pictures or turn a beloved photo into an embroidery pattern.

When you are finished with your photo, save it on the home tab or go to the Share tab to share your photo via email, Flickr or Facebook. 

Finally, the Suite tab gives you access to more NCH Software programs that are related to graphics. For a free trial, just click a program in the toolbar.
