What is Postmark?

Postmark is a transactional email platform for software teams.

According to the vendor, Postmark focuses not only on delivery, but incredibly fast delivery. Buy focusing on transactional email and not allowing sending of bulk promotional email, Postmark maintains a pristine reputation for delivery with ISPs.

The vendor doesn't ask customers to pay extra for "improved delivery" by upgrading to a dedicated IP. They stand by their pool of shared IPs just as strongly as their dedicated IP addresses because they manually approve every account and don't allow any bulk promotional email on our IPs.

I use Postmark currently and have used it since November 2020. I use it as an SMTP for transactional email on a bunch of websites (25+). It has been as close to perfect as I've experienced with most any SaaS I've used in the last decade, and I've used a lot of SaaS. I used to use website servers for transactional email (terrible, opaque experience), then eventually moved over to sendgrid (issues with spam and not great reporting), and finally settled on Postmark.

I love how I get a weekly email for each website with a summary of the total emails sent through Postmark, and bounces (if any). Usually, if there are bounces it's because someone put in the wrong email (occasionally because someone sent a prior email to spam). This has been useful to tell e-commerce clients when one of their customers didn't receive the confirmation email due to entering the wrong email during purchase.

Everything about Postmark is great - support, setup, product, visibility into what's going on. I wasn't sure what to expect when ActiveCampaign bought it, but so far, no change. A+, highly recommend for transactional email.
  • Great, helpful customer support (rarely needed)
  • Reliable product
  • Well thought out interface, easy setup
  • Great ongoing visibility into status of emails sent through Postmark
  • Honestly, there is no real place I would expect them to improve.
Postmark is great if you need a reliable SMTP provider.
  • Weekly emails with insight into status of all emails sent through the system
  • Easy DNS setup
  • Easy to use dashboard
  • Made me feel confident in my ability to offer reliable transactional email for websites we're hosting. Great for ongoing peace of mind.
In my opinion, sendgrid is complete garbage compared to Postmark, it's not even a comparison. I had issues with emails being sent to spam using sendgrid IPs. The dashboard is inferior, the setup is fairly comparable in difficulty, and ongoing visibility is inferior.
The only thing that confused me initially was that if you don't put a specific sender email into the Wordpress plugin settings (I use Postmark exclusively with Wordpress site), it won't send emails. I thought that having selected the option to send via any @domain.com email, I wouldn't need to fill out a specific email to send from, but that isn't the case. I sorted that out quickly with support.
