Community Insights

TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

User-Friendly GUI: Users have consistently praised the tool for its user-friendly and easy-to-navigate graphical user interface. Many reviewers have mentioned that they found the GUI to be uncluttered and appreciated how it made it easy to find what they needed. The simplicity and ease of customization according to individual needs were also highlighted by users.

Simplicity and Ease of Use: The simplicity and ease of use of both PowerSchool Gradebook and Unified Classroom have been highly regarded by users. They have mentioned that these tools simplify their tasks, making them easy to use anywhere. Some users even specifically mentioned that this simplicity makes it easy for both parents and students to understand once logged in, as it consolidates necessary features such as grades, attendance, student information, seating charts, and inputting grades all in one system.

Integration with PowerSchool Gradebook: The integration of Unified Classroom with PowerSchool Gradebook has been particularly appreciated by users. This integration provides a unified platform for classroom management, which streamlines processes for teachers. Teachers have expressed satisfaction with having all pertinent information on their students in one place, including contact details and important personal information. They also like how the software organizes students alphabetically in the grade book for easy accessibility.

Difficult to identify sections in class picker: Some users have expressed difficulty in identifying sections when multiple sections have the same expression due to the lack of section numbers in the class picker.

Platform is clunky and requires swapping master classes: The platform has been described as clunky by users, who find it inconvenient to swap master classes around at the end/start of each term.

Limited access to UC database and reporting features: Users have mentioned that access to the UC database is restricted, with PowerSchool refusing to share information requested by users. They are unable to obtain a list of parents who have successfully integrated with UC and their usage frequency, which was available in the previous SIS but is no longer accessible.

Based on user reviews, the most common recommendations for PowerSchool are as follows:

  1. Overcome the learning curve: Users advise understanding how PowerSchool works, as there is a learning curve, especially for grades. However, once you become familiar with it, navigating and using the software becomes easier.

  2. Wait for further development and support: Some users suggest waiting for PowerSchool's Unified Classroom integration to be fully vetted before adopting it. They also recommend waiting until any bugs are resolved and more teacher feedback is implemented. This ensures a smoother and more reliable experience.

  3. Consider other options or proof of concept: While many users are generally satisfied with PowerSchool, some suggest considering other more established learning management systems (LMS) or doing a proof of concept before fully committing to it. Additionally, users recommend ensuring correct settings from the beginning and exploring integrations with other systems.

Overall, these recommendations indicate that while PowerSchool has its benefits, such as easy gradebook integration and flexibility in tying systems together, users should be prepared for a learning curve and consider factors like system development and alternative options before fully adopting it.

To help our educators deliver high-quality content for their classroom. PowerSchool Unified Classroom gives the teachers the ability to create content, manage their grade book, hand out assignments, post videos, have discussion boards, and get high-quality reports that reflect the standards you have taught and are assessing. Giving the teachers a tool that would allow them to use technology effectively is a district goal, and this works.
  • Hand in/Hand Out Assignments
  • Standards Based Assessments
  • Can be clicky
  • Not able to integrate digital textbooks and work from some providers.
We use PowerSchool Unified Classroom with our Teacher/Student work. Teachers can hand out assignments and have them edited and returned to the teacher in an organized folder, in which the teacher can review, grade, and send back to the student. Papers are never lost this way. Another way that PowerSchool Unified Classroom is used is to deliver assessments for district tests.

  • Gave teachers a tool that is useful
  • Helps teachers stay organized
PowerSchool Unified Classroom is far and away better than what Brightspace offers. The grade book is auto-synced with PowerSchool SIS, Brightspace is not. Brightspace is built for colleges and not for K-12 education. It's not very user-friendly, limited in the content you can add. Brightspace also doesn't have next-gen testing items, which is essential for our district to prepare for our state test.
They are very responsive to the issues that we have and follow through with their assistance. Having a live assist that is available when our teachers need it is essential too. They also seem to listen to suggestions on making improvements and have been transparent with us when renovations are done.

We use PowerSchool as our SIS database and grading system. We use it for the whole school from Pre-k to 12th grade to coordinate student ids and family accounts.
  • The server system is very secure and reliable.
  • We can create student accounts quickly and easily while transferring information to other schools when needed.
  • We use it for our grading systems and family information.
  • The user interface is a little blocky and not entirely user-friendly.
  • It does take more training than we'd like with new staff.
This is well suited for keeping track of student data growth and family information. It is also very helpful when new arriving students come and we can quickly and easily make new student accounts.

  • PowerSchool has successfully helped us create a database on our students and allow staff to quickly access student information.
  • We have been able to coordinate the arrival of new students to multiple teams for student support.
If the user interface was a bit more intuitive, our training sessions could go faster and more effectively. However, overall use of the system is great.

PowerSchool is a system we use for attendance, grade reporting, and recently for booking substitute teachers. The program is being used by all 700+ teachers in our division. PowerSchool is a web-based program that allows students to track their grades in real time. The moment I enter an assignment the students can use the app on their end to see what mark they received or which assignments are outstanding.
  • It easily makes calculations for you to come up with a mark easily.
  • It allows me to put my comments on assignments into the grade so that students get feedback quickly and easily.
  • It is easy to use.
  • The substitute system does not allow you to see what the background areas are of substitute teachers
  • The substitute system does not provide direct contact info for substitutes
  • The Student view that we have access to is not true student view. What they see is different which negates the purpose
It is suited perfectly for most high school applications. It is less appropriate when using standards based marking. It can be done but it is a lot more time consuming. PowerSchool makes it very easy for students to see the assignments they have and the marks they received on the assignments as well as any feedback you have for them.
  • Students have a real time snapshot of their grades at any given time
  • There is 100% transparency in where grades come from with a system like this.
  • It makes parents more accountable as they have no excuse of not knowing if what their kids marks are or if they attended school that day
I have used markbook and gradebook. Each system had good features that were slightly different but the fact that this one is web based and accessible makes it the best of the 3 I have used. The learning curve to using the program is similar to the other 2 and overall has allowed me to save time reporting to students and parents.

We use it at school to enter school grades, attendance, and discipline issues. It holds a record of demographics for each student and for the students' parents or guardians. It is being used by our entire school- all teachers, administrators, staff members, parents, students all use the platform. It is helpful for teachers as it pulls together all necessary information for each class and for each student and houses it in one full source.
  • the interface is very easy to see, view, and use
  • It houses many different types of information, like attendance, grades, discipline issues, requests for administration support
  • it is helpful to maintain all grades for each class
  • it allows parents to view comments from teachers for each grade so they understand the full picture
  • I teach 15 different sections of classes and it is hard to view sections all at once to enter grades in
  • Navigating through all of the tabs to know how to view grades is hard- whether it is Assignments view, or by students, etc.
In the classroom it is very well suited. For classroom teachers, and for school systems in general. It is appropriate in this capacity because it creates a streamlined sense of communication for all stakeholders: teachers, parents, students, and administration. It makes parent meetings very easy, it makes interventions for students easy, and it helps administration keep tabs on overall progress.
  • Positive impact- i don't know how much it costs but every teacher spends probably 1-4 hours on powerschool every week but it streamlines communication
PowerSchool is similar to Schoology but actually has one less component: assignment uploads. Schoology is very helpful because it also students to upload their assignments on dropbox, which syncs automatically to the grade book, which allows me to view who has submitted things on time and who hasn't. I'm able to create Rubrics in Schoology itself which also helps the grading process because it ties in directly to their overall grade after I submit their rubric scores. Powerschool is helpful because it allows for attendance and access across the board with all parties.
