It is used by employees at their own discretion, mainly for the analysis of scientific data. Depending on the complexity of the data set, Prism is used to simplify and provide better visualizations and more powerful statistical analysis. In terms of business, I am not aware if it used as a business tool.
  • Easiness of use
  • Intuitive interface
  • Easy to customize
  • Need a stronger interface with R
  • Advanced analysis is difficult to use
  • Graphically clumsy
I really like to use Prism, compared to other software, for data analysis. It allows a quick "plug and play" of the data and is very tolerant of many data formats. I typically resort to other software only when I need a more specific statistical analysis, or if I need a graphically cleaner visualization.
Prism is just better suited for everyday science. The other software is either overwhelming in terms of analysis, or are too business focused. Prism is a good mediation between simplicity and functionality and is easy to teach to people with little experience in data analysis, statistical software, or general computer education.

Prism is used by myself and others within the lab and department for its ability to graph the data we generate. It has the functions we would need for drug discovery purposes when performing new experiments and can make good looking figures that are standard across the field.
  • Data manipulations
  • Data visualization
  • Ease of use
  • Built-in tutorials
For standard chemical and biological kinetics it is useful to manipulate large data files and generate nice figure. When it comes to custom data manipulation though it can be difficult to manipulate the data with custom formulas in a manner we want.
Excel would be the next best thing to use. It is free for the academic lab to use though the quality of the figure is lacking and not standardized. Excel also lacks easy to use built-in formulas for data manipulation and can be tedious to replicate the same data Prism can do with a single click.
  • Excellent figures for publications
