Email filtering

This is a great tool to protect against spam and malicious emails. Like every product it isn't perfect but it does a good job and creates a regular list of emails that have been blocked. I think the frequency of reports can be adjusted but we run a report every 8 hours which is good to take note of false positives but 3 reports a day is a lot to manage. Overall there are not a lot of false positives and I would say that close to 95% of the time it is correct with what it blocks.
  • Identify and block spam emails
  • Identify and block malicious emails
  • Provides a report of items that have been blocked
  • Allows users to release low threat items but items considered more risky need to be released by an admin
  • Unsure how to train it to release false positives
It is great out of the box and uses AI and machine learning to identify threats with minimal input. It does need to be configured and tuned to meet the needs of the organisation. Industry specific software that sends or receives emails may be affected by this product.
  • PP blocks 5-10 emails per day which are spam or malicious
  • I only get a small number of emails per week which are spam
  • The only malicious emails I receive are from our internal security team which bypasses the PP threat protection

We needed a proven email security tool, and Proofpoint was always coming up. We are protecting 5 organizations over 5 countries with the cloud offering and have found no issues so far.
Proofpoint is used across the entire organization and is centrally controlled by an international IT team.
The previous product did not give half as many options and had a very simple mail filter. Proofpoint has addressed a lot of issues we didn't even realize were problems at first!
  • Email firewall.
  • Email routing.
  • Spam detection.
  • User interface.
  • Administration documentation.
  • The cohesiveness of products.
Proofpoint is an extremely powerful tool, and I would recommend this for organizations sending/receiving lots of mail or for larger organizations. A smaller organization most likely would not have any need for an email security suite with such a complex toolset; in this case, I would definitely suggest something less complex.
  • Massively increased email security.
  • Phishing attempts no longer reach inboxes.
  • The DMARC implementation has basically paid for itself.
The support has been fantastic. We have also undertaken advanced training with Proofpoint, which proved to be extremely beneficial also, as it is the same training the support team gets, and it gave us an understanding of the level of knowledge they have. All of our experiences with Proofpoint support have been second to none.
  • The targeted attack protection is brilliant and is how the rest of the products should be presented.
  • Folder views.
  • Firewall rules.
  • Log viewer.
  • Policy routes
  • Navigating to other products is disjointed.
Proofpoint offers a lot of products, but they are not particularly well integrated. They all look different, and there is no central location to access them all from, which is disappointing. However, I do know they have a big push for upgrading the UI and usability, so this should improve in the coming months I hope.

Proofpoint is being used across my entire organization as a line of defense against everyday spam and more elicit scams. We also use it for URL filtering and web page verification. At the time of purchase, it was mainly seen as a replacement for an older and clunkier spam solution that we didn't love. Over time, it has evolved into a bigger portion of our cybersecurity.
  • Spam filtering
  • URL verification
  • Malware defense
  • Fraud defense
  • Traffic monitoring
  • With our current setup we need to add new users manually.
  • Reports aren't that intuitive.
  • Mailboxes have to be removed manually.
Proofpoint is definitely not for smaller organizations. I don't think that the price point and feature set is designed for that, but it is definitely for organizations that have upwards of 100 or more mailboxes that need to be monitored and protected. We do think that our organization is right in the Proofpoint sweet spot of 200+ mailboxes.
  • Spam filtering for sure
  • URL defense
  • Usage reporting
  • User productivity
  • Business continuity
  • Malware prevention and protection
  • Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
We use Proofpoint Threat Protection in conjunction with Microsoft 365. While Microsoft does have some very nice email security features that are getting better every day, we do think that Proofpoint is a value add and have no inclination to discontinue use or look for another product at this time.

My organization is currently using Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection, and our cyber-security threat response team manages it. It helps address the problem of phishing or any other suspicious emails that employees get that can cause the company harm. Using this product, we want to make sure that these suspicious emails don't reach the employee's mailboxes.
  • Identify suspicious emails
  • Categorizing various threats
  • The admin user interface can be cumbersome to use.
  • Their support needs improvement when it comes to knowing their product.
Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection is well suited for environments that have a formal cyber-security department. It s not suited for smaller companies that do not have an official cyber-security department. Since these environments typically have an IT person or staff that wears multiple hats and won't have the time to give the product adequate attention to prove its value.
  • Blocking suspicious emails preventing threats.
  • Being able to identify trends when it comes to threats coming into our environment.
Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection gives more visibility on incoming threats that come in via email. Its competitors leave more to the imagination, whereas Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection already provides those needs right out of the box. Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection is also easier to configure when it comes to an initial implementation. Proofpoint Advanced Threat Protection also is ranked high in Gartner.
Even though the product is good, the support can be lacking at times. The support needs to know their product inside and out, but there are times in which we figure out things before their support does. I feel as if we should not be able to fix issues that their support cant fix, hence the main reason for support.

We use Advanced Threat Protection across our company. It has saved our users and system administrators countless hours tracking down threats and saving hours in remediation.
  • With the TAP product, we get notified of threats that have slipped through to end users and are able to remediate those threats in a timely manner.
  • The continual review of potential email threats even after they have been delivered is a life saver for us.
  • There have been some examples of TAP notifications that include only the recipient's address. This makes it difficult to investigate the potential threat. However, it's our understanding that this is due to the way the email was constructed.
  • We have seen some TAP alerts come in days after the email has been delivered.
It is excellent for post delivery analysis.
  • It saves email administrators countless hours investigating threats.
  • It saves users many hours by identifying the threat even after a malicious email as been delivered.
  • Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)
Proofpoint's Advanced Threat Protection, in the past, has identified threats whereby Microsoft's Advanced Threat Protection did not.
Support supplies quick turnaround and professionalism.
