What is Recharge?

ReCharge, the eponymous subscription management software solution from ReCharge Payments headquartered in Santa Monica, is said by the vendor to have helped over 15,000 merchants launch and scale their subscription business. Be it a curated monthly box, recurring necessities or access to exclusive perks, they state ReCharge drives billions of dollars in annual processing for nearly 30 million consumers.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

For our main DTC ecommerce website, we use Recharge as our Shopify subscription plugin. We researched many other plugins before deciding on Recharge. We chose Recharge because they offered a wealth of resources (including Winbacks, Loyalty Program, and Cancelation Prevention) at a mid range cost compared to some of the other plugins. Since we've implemented, our customers have loved the easy to use UI, automation features (including reminders), and security.

Pros

  • Provide easy subscription management with our customers
  • Has great add-on tools such as their Loyalty Program and Cancelation Prevention Tools
  • Their admin side is very easy to use (and get reporting on)
  • Their customer service is top notch. Anytime we have a question or issue, we usually have it solved within the hour by their team!

Cons

  • We would like to see a bit more design concepts with their product page widget
  • It would also be nice if they had a "Points Program" rather than just a Loyalty Program that worked off of money back
  • Very rarely their admin UI will hang, causing us to log out and try again.

Return on Investment

  • Our subscriptions are 33% up already from our previous system
  • Email automation is working super smoothly
  • Their tools (like Cancelation Prevention) really do help with order churn

We are a standard subscription driven DTC eCommerce company offering a consumption based product, prime for an auto replenish business model. A significant portion of our monthly revenue comes from recurring subscriptions. We use Recharge to capture, managed, and retain our subscribers. Suffice to say, subscriptions are a critical component of our business model and strategy.

Cons

  • Customer retention and churn reduction
  • Better subscription offerings and discounts
  • Customer subscription management dashboard
  • Subscription analytics dashboard is clunky
  • Website load time

Return on Investment

  • Recharge has allowed us to build a subscription business
  • Recharge is very time consuming for us to manage and debug
  • We regularly deal with customer frustrations due to poor dashboard and subscription management features
  • We have found and debugged multiple bugs with new Recharge features
