Difficult Tasks

  • My biggest gripe with Ion is a bit unusual. When a user starts to get into the deeper complexities of Ion, there can literally be 20+ places you might have to look to find a rogue script, action, or rule that is causing certain behavior. So since this problem can happen in so many places, if people do not stay consistent with how they are building and utilizing things it can become very tedious to find some small piece of code causing an undesired action to occur.
  • Ion can be used in very simple, or very complex ways using multiple datalayers, getting data from API services, and more. So sometimes when someone asks for a simple edit, but you have to go and follow a trail of breadcrumbs to find out the information is kept in a datalayer, find the datalayer information and make the edit, people have a hard time accepting that to change a single word it can take 30 minutes or even more. However very few people utilize Liveball in this way so for most implementations it is not that big of a problem.
  • They don't truly have a test environment, and it is not really possible to implement one, but you can create an item and send it to a dummy or test URL, so while they don't have a test environment there is a decent work around, but this is a pain point for many people and companies using Ion.

Difficult Tasks

  • Lifetime reporting can't be done by client / landing page, but instead a 'global' export has to be done - and then filtered
  • Changelog / version control would be helpful to understand when / where change milestones were made to different landing pages

Difficult Tasks

  • Adding links within body copy is tricky.
  • Sometimes adding videos can be tricky, especially if you want the playhead/controls hidden.
  • There is no undo – there were a couple times that I wish there was!

Difficult Tasks

  • Deciphering the analytics takes a bit of time. There doesn't seem to be a clear definition of some of the data available and if you're pulling a report for someone more unfamiliar with the project it takes some explaining.

Difficult Tasks

  • Once a brand/design is established as a starting point, it is extremely difficult to modify without endangering all of your projects, even if you have a high degree of proficiency with CSS and Javascript.
  • The whole process seems over-developed. This could be due to ion interactive trying to be all things to all people. Or it could be due to ion interactive's developers knowing their platform so well, their techniques make it hard for a client developer like me to interface or modify things based on my marketing needs. All in all, I find it frustrating to modify things (where it is relatively simple in other CSS/Javascript) experiences.
  • Training is readily available, but they too easily gravitate towards highlighting high-end features and concepts, when their users are still trying to grasp the basics. They don't seem to realize how hard it can be for new users to initially get how ion interactive works.

Difficult Tasks

  • If you want to do more complicated things, like personalize based on internal data actions, you really need to know what you are doing.
  • The reporting is not very flexible. It's a prebuilt set of reporting that doesn't let you drill very well... customization would go a long way.
  • Recreating the admin area would be nice. It's a little dated and the folder structure issues make my portfolios specifically very long and not as easy to navigate as one would think.
