Nothing offers the customization and control for power users like Sailthru. Other options we have used have been simply as backups in case of Sailthru outages during critical moments. We chose Sailthru at the beginning of our growth from sending email natively. We haven't had a need to switch although we have briefly evaluated the cost/benefit of switching to other providers. Unfortunately, the switching cost is usually to high as we are tightly integrated.

I think Sailthru does a poor job at comparing to Klaviyo from a user perspective. While both platforms have very similar features and objectively achieve the same result, the user interface & journey to get there on Sailthru is overly complicated and cumbersome. Klaviyo does a much better job at being straight forward and simple to use. Plus they have a better customer service team than Sailthru.

We went with Sailthru because we didn't need an all-in-one software. Sailthru's main focus is email and they do a great job at it. Looking back, I probably would have chosen a different platform based on price alone. Sailthru is very expensive for what it offers. Another reason we chose Sailthru is due to excellent customer service. Compared to other platforms, Sailthru blows them away when it comes to having a personal touch.

We chose Sailthru before evaluating these vendors. Currently though they are lagging a little bit with integration with outside data sources, flexibility with surfacing web content, and multi channel orchestration compared to these vendors

I prefer Sailthru over any Oracle product but found Campaign Monitor was the best ESP I've played around with. At my last job, we made the switch from Responsys to Campaign Monitor but I left shortly after so I didn't get too much experience working in it. I didn't select Sailthru here at Domino, it was just what they were already using when I started.

Sailthru provides the most details of any of the systems I've used previously. It allows us to customize reports for the specific client and what information that client is looking for. Sailthru allows us to use multiple different accounts to generate reports from, so it works for all aspects of our business.

  • Critical Impact and Paramount
For us, a cost-effective email provider always seems to lack our version of a "total package". Sailthru seems to edge out others for merchants, but even the providers before and after Sailthru also fell a little short. There really doesn't seem to be a solution that truly embraces a digital publisher's email needs. As an IT person, my gut reaction is to just make our own version of something like this. It's not possible due to our size and capabilities though.

Sailthru provided a powerful, easy-to-use platform that was able to adjust to the needs we had at Dotdash. It was able to support the simple campaigns where we would send static creative to all recipients and the complex dynamic campaigns where we were customizing content. The scale and flexibility really made it a great platform for us to use.

Sailthru has a distinct advantage of being a younger more agile company while not having the legacy code that several of the large scale ESP's have. The UX is a strength as well as their frequent features overhaul which seems to develop more every year, they have a focus on improving the use cases of their platform instead of boasting how large or how many features they have.

Sailthru is cost effective, feature-rich, well documented, continuously growing their product offering, and combines most of what all other platforms encompass. From SMS to email, marketing campaigns to transactional sends, custom built event-based sequences, etc.

Sailthru is much more robust and evolved than MailChimp. That's not to say that MailChimp wasn't a great platform for us, as it dramatically helped our business grow and it's a great resource that I'd recommend to any start-up. However, Sailthru offers a different ideology more centered around automated emails and working smarter over creating batch-and-blast emails. Sailthru also is much easier to analyze than anything associated with Mandrill.

Better than the pure campaign email marketing apps (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.) for the additional transactional email capabilities. With the lack of reliability and service, we will move on to others though (trying Mixpanel's and Intercom.io to see how they work out.

Sailthru is my favorite email platform that I've used thus far. It's more streamlined and user-friendly compared to Marketo and Lyris. It currently offers more functionality and customer insights than MailChimp, Constant Contact, What Counts, Omail, and Vertical Response.

SailThru doesn't have the UI of any of them unfortunately, but the high level of functionality (if functions to switch text for specific customers) is the BIGGEST strength. None of these have that complexity available. My old company needed to build our own automated email platform to be able to that and none of us knew SailThru. HubSpot does connect to Salesforce which is a huge plus and tracks the lifecycle of the customer. SailThru does this to a point, but at a very high level. Otherwise everything is just as easy.
