During the implementation process, we had some ideas on how to proceed in the best way and optimize time, since we had a relatively short time to carry out all operations. We made use of the SAP Business One copy tools to export data and import without having much damage.

Customer needs to know what they want out of SAP and then the system can be tailored around feedback. SAP Business One is able to be customized. There isn't one implementation style that works for every customer.

SAP: From simple sales to multi-level production products. It can handle it.

These implementations are not easy. Even a standard implementation can be difficult. With a never-been-done-before implementation, the implementation team and the user team need to be thorough with planning, make a decision on key points, and stick to them before any design happens. Our biggest challenge was not from StellarOne, rather it was from the mid-implementation decisions from our internal team. StellarOne did a great job warning us, implementing our decision, and then helping us adjust our SAP to handle the new direction we took.

Understanding an ERP process is key combined with knowing the capabilities of SAP Business One. Without those two it is difficult to begin. The third element is know your own process and where you see growth in that process down the road. This will help you identify the gaps to implement.

Finding the right partner is key. You need someone that understand your specific business needs, that is organized, available and professional and that will be able to find solutions to tweak the system to make it work with your needs.

It is very important that the internal team that will participate in the project, can have dedicated time to spent on the project. Usually most of the delays on the projects occurs because the assigned personnel don't have enough dedicated time to the project, and are always focused on their daily tasks.

The implementation process was very good. The team worked with us to determine a schedule that would allow us to be live and using the software independently when we needed to. They were also accommodating to the different users' schedules to ensure that everyone received hands-on training. Overall, we were very happy with the implementation process.

Implementation of SAP is purely dependent on the SAP partner you are working with and there's no way of knowing who is good and who is bad until you try and at that time it might be too late and you have a lot of headaches to get out and switch a partner. It was not easy to find a good and local partner.

Make sure to read as much as possible about the SAP B1 capabilities and then sit down with your team to figure out what your goals are for using the system. What are your pain points? You will have a difficult time with the implementation if you cannot answer those questions generally in a group setting.

It helped to have someone who had a background in accounting that did our implementation. He understood why things had to be the way they were and it ensured our data was transferred and set up correctly.

Make sure you have the end goal in sight when setting up your new system. The team member who implemented our system was very focused on inventory management, but not very focused on producing summary reports, which don't exist. He never explored reporting add ons or developed any Crystal reports and we struggle daily to summarize information.

Conduct interviews with the administrative and accounting areas, ask about the experience with the tool, make free test modules to detect the possibilities of use, as well as, validate the necessary investment for the implementation of the program with the system area, to determine if it is the most viable option
