If you're a technical user who understands databases, it's pretty easy to get up to speed with Crystal quickly. However, if you're an unsophisticated business user without database knowledge and skills, it's going to be very difficult to use.

Crystal is very robust, but not always easy to use. It create wonderful looking reports, and so deserves a high rating. However, I have to take a couple of points off for the simple fact that I cannot hand it to a user and expect them to be able to do development with it.

Crystal can be really complex, but you get more out of it the more you work with it. Other tools can be easier to pick up, but Crystal won't leave you stranded 1/2 way to your reporting goals. Complex reports take complex tools, and to the chagrin of my end users, there's no getting around that fact.

Overall, I have no real issues with using the software. It is pretty intuitive to a programmer. I believe that most people would be able to understand how to use it with only the tutorials offered by SAP on their site. No one should be scared to try it out.

Being able to get up and running quickly is a key asset. There's plenty of advanced features to master that are surprisingly difficult in others tools (or just missing from other tools altogether).

The UI can feel a bit dated at times but its usability isn't affected.

Any issue you have can usually be resolved by searching in the user community.

Overall Crystal Reports meets ours needs. It's fairly usable by our technical support team and does not require too much additional training. Overall it is a software that you can learn by reading a good "Dummies" book on. End users will be surprised at how nice the outputs look as well.

It is by far the easiest report writing system I have used. Everything is laid out in a way that is intuitive. The use of their Expert functions makes it very easy to accomplish a number of tasks. By far the best feature is the automatic linking feature when adding your DB tables to Crystal for use in your report.
