What is Sauce Labs?

Sauce Labs is a cloud-based platform for automated testing of desktop and mobile applications. It is designed to be instantly scalable, since it is optimized for continuous integration workflows. (The vendor says that when tests are automated and run in parallel on multiple virtual machines across many different browser, platform and device combinations, testing time is reduced and developer time is freed up from managing infrastructure.) The Sauce Labs testing cloud is intended to be paired with a CI system. According to the vendor, this combination allows developers to easily test desktop and hybrid, native and mobile web applications early on in their development cycles, continuously and affordably.

Sauce Labs provides enterprise-grade security via Sauce Connect™, its secure tunneling protocol for testing behind a firewall while maintaining control of proxy and access policies. Tests are run in the company’s secure data center and VMs are destroyed (not “wiped”) after each run, ensuring customer data is never exposed to future sessions. After tests are completed the Sauce Labs’ dashboard provides a unique build-oriented report with metadata, access to Selenium logs, screenshots, video recordings, and a complete list of commands and responses. Support for SSO lets customers provision new user accounts on the fly with centralized user account management, access control, and usage reporting.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

During our initial analysis of Sauce Labs, we were only focused on their desktop capabilities. We did not care about the mobile infrastructure they had. If we were to do this all over again, we would focus on all aspects of development. Luckily for us, Sauce Labs is equally equipped in its mobile infrastructure.

At the time, we tried and tested many of competitors. But given that most of the competitors had less features with a higher cost, it was a no brainer for us to migrate from TestObject to Saucelabs since there was no added learning curve (due to the acquisition) and not much of a change in cost.

Cost is always a decisive factor in making a final call. If some other tools provide the same range of features with less cost, then company could decide to switch to other platforms. And change is always a constant. If product does not evolve with time, then it always lost it's interest. So keep on entertaining your customers.

we would choose Sauce labs again, we had been working with them for more than 3 years. It is reliable, user friendly, integrates easily with other technologies and keeps improving. Also the technical and administrative provided by Sauce labs is very professional and they always have an answer in a really short time.

First, we still need to go with the price and cost-effectiveness. It's one of the most important factors that we consider when choosing a vendor. Another reason is the reputation and how big is the community. With saucelabs, there is a dedicated forum just for users/customers to ask and get help.

I don't think I would have changed much of anything. I tried out Sauce Labs and Browser Stack and attempted to do the same type of automation on both. Sauce Labs was clearly easier to use and I believe their price was even better than Browser Stack, so it was a no brainer.

Reaching out to Sauce Labs representatives to get a timeline estimate on development of new features might have been an addition to the process we considered. Furthermore, a lengthier trial implementation to better determine some of the shortcoming of features we liked might have been beneficial, such as relatively restrictive user account management.

Mostly for our company, pricing has been a big issue and a main factor in deciding which tool to use. Sauce Labs reputation has helped and compatibility with Selenium has been one of the main factors since our company mostly has web applications.

I don't think we would change our evaluation process. It was appropriate at the time of evaluating the product. If we were looking at similar tools now, there may have been a different outcome as the offerings available have expanded and some other tools may have taken the lead in our scoring process. At the time Sauce Labs was the strongest contender.

I might explore future use cases (such as vision based comparison) and see if the would also be supported. We did a POC which turned into a final product. Sauce Labs met our needs at the time but there no forward thinking to what we might want to use it for later

I don't think I would change anything.
I would do it exactly the same as I did before.

Read online reviews, read side to side comparisons, and most importantly, try it out if the free trial period is available.

The one new thing the Sauce Labs started to do, is the annual Sauce Labs conference in San Francisco.
I don't think I would attend it before using the product, but I would watch some reviews and video highlights from the conference.

I will go ahead and evaluate the needs for the business and then lay down the pros and cons of each service provider to see which one gives the maximum benefit with minimum expenditure, also the key thing is to make sure how the future of the product/service you are buying going to be, maybe talk to the vendor about their vision the next things they are going to implement for future and getting the feedback from the users will be important
