Hero is a versatile tool that is widely used in schools to manage various aspects of school culture and student behavior. One of its key use cases is the management of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, discipline, and accountability systems. Through the use of Hero, teachers and administrators are able to track and examine data related to student behavior, allowing them to address issues such as tardiness, attendance, uniform violations, and other behaviors that impact the overall school environment.

Teachers have reported significant improvements in student behavior since implementing Hero. In fact, they have assigned 50% fewer detentions in the third year compared to the first year, indicating a positive shift in behavior among students. Hero is also used as a school-wide incentive program to reward good behavior. Points are earned by students for exhibiting positive behaviors, which can then be exchanged for rewards and prizes. This has not only encouraged students to strive for better behavior but has also created a more positive school culture.

Furthermore, Hero is highly valued by teachers as an efficient tool for tracking basic behaviors like tardies and uniform violations. The user-friendly app makes it easy for educators to input and monitor these behaviors, freeing up valuable time that can be spent on other educational tasks. Additionally, Hero is implemented at both individual schools and entire school districts with the goal of improving behavior, addressing attendance issues, and creating a standardized system for tracking and managing student conduct.

Overall, through its comprehensive features and ease of use, Hero has proven to be an effective solution for schools looking to promote positive behaviors, reduce disciplinary issues, and foster a conducive learning environment for their students.

Valuable tool for acknowledging positive student behavior site-wide: Many users have found Hero to be a valuable tool for recognizing and acknowledging positive student behavior across their school. It ensures that all students, not just the problem kids, are acknowledged and appreciated.

Great feature for tracking tardies sitewide: Several reviewers have praised Hero's ability to track tardies sitewide and pair it with daily tardy sweeps. This feature helps prevent students from slipping through the cracks and highlights the impact and cost of being late to class.

User-friendly interface: Users appreciate Hero's user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to navigate and use. The self-explanatory design allows teachers, administrators, and parents to quickly access classroom data, track behaviors, and monitor progress.

Streamlining Point Awarding Process: Some users have expressed the need for streamlining the process of awarding points on the desktop website, as they feel it currently requires too many clicks. They suggest that the point-awarding process be made more efficient and user-friendly.

Lack of Seating Chart Option on Mobile App: Several users have suggested adding a seating chart option on the mobile app to make behavior tracking easier. This feature would allow teachers to easily track and record student behaviors in real-time.

Need for Improved Data Report Detail: Users have mentioned that while they appreciate having access to data reports, they feel that there is room for improvement in terms of the level of detail provided. They would like to see more comprehensive and customizable data reports that can provide deeper insights into student behavior and progress.

Hero is used to manage our school's PBIS, school culture, and discipline and accountability systems, as well as to track and examine data. We have had over an 85% reduction in tardiness and a 60% reduction in suspension, with the numbers improving every year. In the third year of implementation teachers assigned 50% fewer detentions than the first year. The results are dramatic.
  • The customer service is fast and friendly, and there is always someone available to meet a need.
  • The interface of the platform is very self-explanatory and user-friendly.
  • Hero is always seeking feedback and making improvements based on user needs.
  • There is still room for growth with the level of detail in the data reports.
  • Students have regular issues in remembering passwords and accessing their accounts.
  • They recently eliminated Homeroom, an online user community that rewarded us for participating. I got a lot of great ideas there, so this is unfortunate.
Hero is a great time saver for any busy school administrator. Students are able to use technology to earn positive points and also track and manage their own discipline. It is user-friendly and adaptable to the specific needs of the school. I love writing my own tracking codes and setting the action thresholds.
  • 85% reduction in tardiness.
  • 50% reduction in detentions assigned.
  • 60% reduction in suspension.
We have used Class Dojo and Progress Book. Hero is great for discipline specifically. We also have e-school, but it does not allow the level of detail and follow up that Hero has. Before Hero, we had a really ineffective system for tracking student discipline, and it was hard to be consistent.
Someone is always available. I like being able to call, chat, or email as needed. There are also a lot of tutorials and webinars provided. Hero does a good job of providing tools for onboarding new users and customers as well. It is easy to find whatever information you are looking for.

We used Hero to reward good behavior in our Middle School on a school-wide basis. We had a set of positive behaviors that would earn points aimed at teaching safe, responsible and respectful school citizenship. Students would receive a point for each of the target behaviors exhibited in each classroom on a daily basis. There was a deadline for accumulating points before a scheduled event for which they had to earn a certain amount of points in order to attend.
  • Hero provides various ways to be able to register the targeted behaviors.
  • Hero provides a user-friendly online interface.
  • Hero will tailor the program to meet your group's needs.
  • Clear interfacing app for entering points.
  • Hero had the Hero Homeroom where teachers could collaborate and receive rewards but that was discontinued. I think that a similar reward system for those who are supposed to be inputting information would be helpful, where consistency for the required input is rewarded. For example: teachers were to be recording points for all their students every period every day - if they received points for completing their input & could then choose to spend those points on rewards that would help encourage participation to make it more successful overall.
  • Too hands-off in making sure that implementation is as successful as possible.
  • Too techie for non-tech savvy people.
I would highly recommend this as long as you are able to get 90% or more buy-in. However, if there is not a MAJORITY buy-in I don't feel it will be successful. My colleagues and I found that classroom management was much improved in the classrooms of us who were sold on using it and used it with fidelity, adding extra intensives because of infidelity in other classrooms. It became obvious to the administration that the lack of buy-in was destroying the program outcome.
  • Teachers that used it with fidelity had a useful tool for classroom management.
  • The more teachers using it with fidelity the better the school's behavior was overall.
  • The reward system that is implemented can encourage or discourage the overall buy-in by all involved.
I really have no other product on the market to compare it to. However, because the administration was having difficulty getting teachers to use Hero with fidelity they have changed to having similar events for students who do not receive any referrals in a 2-4 week period. This requires less from the teachers so it is more successful school-wide, however I regret not having the Hero program because I felt there were more ways to encourage student buy-in.
If we are talking about the support that Hero gives its customers, I found that whenever our Hero Coordinator asked for adjustments the company was right there making the adjustments that were needed to suit our situation.

If we are talking about the support of the customers for the Hero program, I would have to say that in my experience it diminished each year. At our school at the beginning there was a lot of participation, when we had an administrator who was excited about it and worked at helping the students buy-in. As the years went by, the teachers who found it helpful in their classroom management continued to use it with fidelity. The new teachers who were not familiar with it were not buying in because there was no longer an administrator who was excited about the possibilities. It became just one more thing that the new teachers had to learn and it was not a priority and so it became less effective each year.

Hero has made tracking basic behaviors like tardies and uniform violations super easy. The phone app, in particular, makes this process fast and easy.
  • Tracking basic behaviors.
  • Rewarding students in the moment with points.
  • Phone app makes scanning student IDs very fast, which saves time for instruction.
  • Sometimes the phone app freezes on an iPhone, and I have to close out of it before scanning another ID.
  • I also wish there was a way to export all rosters into an Excel file under the behavior tracking tab.
Hero is well suited for charter school systems with smaller classes. It is less appropriate for large public schools where the app freezes might make tracking behaviors overwhelming.
  • Hero has made pulling behavior reports very easy for Deans of Students.
  • Hero has also made tracking teacher actions with it very easy. We can see which teachers gave which particular demerit.
There is one big issue I want to see resolved, which is when we pull student behavior histories, it does not readily show which teacher gave which demerit. This, if solved, would greatly improve the app.
I have not personally reached out for improvement, but I hear that customer service is quick.

Hero is used through our entire school for multiple purposes. It is for tardy tracking, positive points, point banking and spending at our school store, and detention tracking.
  • Behavior tracking.
  • Detention management.
  • PBIS Community.
  • There aren't many areas where I would suggest improvement. They are responsive, helpful, have a great community help forum, and the interface is pretty user friendly.
Hero is used school wide as a part of the PBIS programming. It allows us to track behaviors, tardies, detentions, and teacher comments all in one place. There is an option for printing passes for students with a separate machine that plugs into phones and computers and makes it all even more convenient. Positive points can be coded for different purposes including special codes for school wide initiatives.
  • Unsure. The financial impact of this product is with administration.
The app is still a little difficult to use which is the only reason I'd give the 9/10.
Their support team is quick and responsive. They offer webinars and direct chats for any help you may need or want.
The only product like Hero I've used is LiveSchool. In LiveSchool you have to create classes yourself, it does not track negative behaviors or detentions. In Hero students still only earn positive points, but there's an interface to allow students to see consequences for things like skipping class without having an impact on buying items from the school store.

At my middle school, we use HERO as a positive behavior tool. Students receive points for coming to class on time, showing character traits, doing what's right and being in uniform. It has increased positive behavior and reduced issues at school. Students can turn those points in and receive prizes.
  • Students receive points for being on time, therefore they are never late.
  • Students receive points for being in uniform, therfore we know who is a part of our campus.
  • Sometimes HERO does not update students who have left the school or who have entered. So teachers have to input manually. That can be improved.
HERO is well suited for students because it provides extrinsic motivation. It also helps adults because Homeroom HERO offers prizes as well.
  • HERO has had a positive ROI because negative behavior has decreased.
Have not used any other product.
