What is Shift?

Shift is a desktop app for streamlining accounts, apps, and workflows, available for Windows or Mac workstations. Once downloaded, it enables the end user to simultaneously access and interact with multiple email accounts, enterprise apps, and integrated collaboration tools. It provides a search tool, notifications, and a customizable workspace interface to keep all necessary tools managed. Users can also create and share focused Workspaces with mission-critical tabs, bookmarks, and apps for personal or individual use, or for team use.

Its most basic functionality enables the worker to see and manage multiple email accounts in one place (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Outlook, etc). Also, users can include extension. Some among these are: Boomerang, Grammarly, Dropbox, Gmelius, GoToMeeting, HubSpot, Mailtrack, Lastpass, MixMax, Todoist, Zoom, and Streak.

The vendor states their focus with Shift is on providing logic and beauty, and that it ultimately aims to drive efficiency flowing from improved organization and end-user comfort while managing multiple apps from a single workspace.

  • Organize multiple email inboxes
  • Allows for a workspace for each account
  • The app integrations are handy
  • Some apps don’t work as well as they would on a regular plugin for a browser
  • Web browser is nice, but Chrome is a bit more user friendly
  • Sometimes things load strange and take over a work space (some forms or PDFs)

  • Shift provides a seamless, single interface that brings together all of my email accounts and productivity tools (both Google Workspace and 3rd parties)
  • It allows me to install, login and access the same emails and tools from ANY desktop in the world, securely, and without leaving a footprint of my User information or online working sessions.
  • The browser-based UX/UI design of Shift makes it intuitive and fast (especially with recent memory handling improvements).
  • Shift needs to leverage AI / ML to provide analytics and automation for my emails, workspace apps and productivity tools.
  • Add process automation, content generation and info searching across environments.
  • Built-in content generation capabilities.
  • Built-in text to speech (reading content), and speech to text features (input content).

  • Streamlines personal workflow.
  • It helps manage multiple inboxes quickly and easily.
  • Offer tons of integrations for other platforms you use like Slack, banking, Hootsuite, etc.
  • Every once in awhile it can be a bit slow.
  • Once in a while if I am using Shift on my monitor screen and I close my laptop, next time I use my laptop with no monitor I can't get Shift to come up again. I can only get the window back when I plug back into my monitor. Super annoying for something that I pay for.
  • It doesn't always keep you logged in to each platform you have installed. I suppose this keeps things secure - but I wish it just stayed log in to everything.
