What is Shift?

Shift is a desktop app for streamlining accounts, apps, and workflows, available for Windows or Mac workstations. Once downloaded, it enables the end user to simultaneously access and interact with multiple email accounts, enterprise apps, and integrated collaboration tools. It provides a search tool, notifications, and a customizable workspace interface to keep all necessary tools managed. Users can also create and share focused Workspaces with mission-critical tabs, bookmarks, and apps for personal or individual use, or for team use.

Its most basic functionality enables the worker to see and manage multiple email accounts in one place (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Outlook, etc). Also, users can include extension. Some among these are: Boomerang, Grammarly, Dropbox, Gmelius, GoToMeeting, HubSpot, Mailtrack, Lastpass, MixMax, Todoist, Zoom, and Streak.

The vendor states their focus with Shift is on providing logic and beauty, and that it ultimately aims to drive efficiency flowing from improved organization and end-user comfort while managing multiple apps from a single workspace.

I have all my applications connected through Shift, including my GMail corporate account, Slack, Telegram, GoogleDrive, Dropbox, Notion... everything that I need in one place, so I don't need to jump from Windows or applications. All the alerts and notifications in one place and everything interconnected, so I don't need to take care about anything else.
  • Mail management.
  • Application Integration.
  • Notifications and Alerts.
  • Settings to customize the notifications depending on the app used.
  • Speed and memory consumption (even that depends on how many applications you use).
  • Automatization of processes.
The most important part for me is having everything I use under the same application. I don't use the browser's capability, as external browsers give you more flexibility. I prefer to have that in a separate window, but it is great to have everything unified for the rest of the applications.
  • Best positive impact is the time I save using just one application.

I wanted to have every tool I commonly use in a centralized place exactly what Shift does.
Had to use it once and it was great support.
No, I don't expect to need premium support, and it's not worth paying for that one, either.
No
Had some issues with the Whatsapp integration, Support informed that the issue was going to be fixed in next release and did.

I use Shift at work to streamline the process of managing multiple email accounts, using Slack, and using a few other platforms all in one window. Because I have a research-heavy job - I already always have a million tabs open. It is nice to be able to have a separate window where I can house all of my communication-related apps/websites/etc and a few others. I recommended the platform to a couple of other people at my company who now use it too. I'd say this is more of a personal workflow solution than a general business solution.
  • Streamlines personal workflow.
  • It helps manage multiple inboxes quickly and easily.
  • Offer tons of integrations for other platforms you use like Slack, banking, Hootsuite, etc.
  • Every once in awhile it can be a bit slow.
  • Once in a while if I am using Shift on my monitor screen and I close my laptop, next time I use my laptop with no monitor I can't get Shift to come up again. I can only get the window back when I plug back into my monitor. Super annoying for something that I pay for.
  • It doesn't always keep you logged in to each platform you have installed. I suppose this keeps things secure - but I wish it just stayed log in to everything.
I think it's great if you have too many tabs open, and like being able to seamlessly manage more then one inbox plus Slack all from one window. It's also nice that you can mute all notifications at once. Works specifically well with Gmail. I don't think you would need Slack if you are already very organized and systematic about how you manage your email/Slack or if you don't use Gmail.
  • It is not expensive and really helps me streamline my organization so I love it!
  • It is a very low learning curve.
I have never seen anything else like Shift and that is why I love it! It is very simple.
It is simple and has exactly what I need. If they worked out a few minor bugs, I think it would be perfect.
