  • We switched from AutoCAD to Solid Edge because they still offer perpetual licenses.
  • The API and the Documentation are good enough to develop new company-specific features.
  • If you use the API capabilities, Solid Edge is less stable then needed (Access Violation Errors, etc. )

  • We have purchased a server version of solid edge so for one license 6 people can operate it at a time which is economically all viable.
  • We have integrated it with PLM Teamcenter so we can share drawings and other files across other factories.
  • Solid edge is less famous than Solid Works so sometimes you have to convert it into step files.
  • It is very productive and easy to lean application for everyone.

  • Solid Edge has allowed the company to standardize its drawing practice and product consistent quality data packs.
  • Solid Edge has integrated perfectly into the Siemens Team Centre PLM solution, which has allowed the company to apply approval workflows to all content generated, thus ensuring that no steps are skipped and clients are happy.
  • The choice of Solid Edge as a CAD package has resulted in high license costs each year due to the high number of users that need access to the package.

  • Since the version I'm using (2D version) is free, the return on investment is through the roof!
  • It has given me another powerful tool for handling DWG files from clients.
  • Its quickness and robustness make it a time-saver, since there is less time waiting for the files to open, regenerate, etc.

  • Mostly positive. My objective was to become a household name in technical training. Solid Edge's consistency in the market, and the vision to pioneer and maintain the synchronous design approach, means objective achieved.
  • along the way, Insight technology became a standard with small and medium-sized companies (as far as the number of users). Installation and support of Insight became 50% of my business revenue, and the ill-conceived decision by sales to drop support for SharePoint, and thus Insight, was negative. not just for me, but by far a negative reaction in the industry.

  • It took about 20 hours of use to get the basics of Synchronous Technology, and with just a basic competency I was able to make useful changes to the design. One of those changes was impossible to do our other CAD program.
  • My use lately has mostly been on personal time and self-driven, so learning other aspects and features of Solid Edge has been slower. Creating a drawing for a part required a few hours to learn and do the first time, but luckily there were YouTube videos for examples. With practice, I would expect the time to reflect what it takes in SOLIDWORKS (about 30 minutes).

  • Synchronous has increased design speed by a factor of 3X. This is huge for anyone.
  • The built-in data manager is free with Solid Edge. It works for us as we have under 20 users. If you have many users you may want to upgrade to Teamcenter.

  • Helped with meeting deadlines better because a user can spend more time designing thanks to ST and less time redefining/studying models to incorporate required changes. Better ROI.
  • Efforts are being made in to address this, but offering the software for free to schools, having effective marketing, and having more regional reps to attract customers and to produce more competent users for hiring. This will allow for more recruitment at vocational schools and allow company training to focus more on internal processes and less time on Solid Edge training.
  • Solid Edge has played a big role helping secondary students realize their designs faster and easier.
