The team I am on, has a small headcount for the number of clients we're supporting. Sigma has helped us massively reduce the amount of time it takes for us to compile reports and actionable business intelligence from dozens of hours a week down to 1-3 hours. Moreover, it's helped us in supporting our sales reps with information on their specific clients. The scope of use for our team has only continued to grow as other teams realize use cases based on what I've built so far for my team.

On a daily basis, use it to determine a broad range of things:

Product performance:
  • Observing past trends and predict future trends in product usage
  • Identify broad trends that could lead to product improvements
  • Help clients get the maximum potential from our product by observing how its being used
  • Identify areas where costs to us, or the client, may be unnecessarily high and address
Operations/Customer service:
  • Proactively identify issues and reach out to clients for troubleshooting and resolution
  • Reach out to clients who are not using the product to its maximum potential and assist in helping their projects succeed
  • Maximize delivery to our clients by identifying the causes of shortfalls
  • Customer Support: They've always been very quick to respond, willing to help work to come up with solutions for anything I'm stuck on.
  • Very quick and easy to create reports with, once a solid dataset has been built.
  • Low Code/No Code UX is intuitive to any excel users.
  • Many options for joining different data sources.
  • Adding new features regularly
  • Formatting: On workbooks and dashboards, it can sometimes be difficult to make the page elements align correctly.
  • When creating and setting up datasets, having a temporarily row-limiting option when editing would help a lot, particularly on anything with a large number of rows.
  • Scheduling reports to be sent out can be tricky if the request is something like "Last Monday of each month".
  • Being able to export an xls with conditional formatting would be helpful in some cases.
Some of the specific scenarios where Sigma has really helped us are in our regular weekly reports and in proactive issue detection. Using Sigma has reduced the amount of time spent on them from 6-8 man-hours per week down to 2 hours, and only because some reporting relies on sources outside of Sigma. We've been able to use it to quickly and proactively detect issues based on KPIs and metrics, as prior to Sigma, we had to download a query result and analyze it in a spreadsheet.

The scenarios where Sigma is less appropriate are when a task needs to be confirmed. If we reach out to a client regarding an issue, we can't indicate it was done in Sigma. I don't consider this a Sigma issue, as it's not meant to be a workflow tool.

  • Easy to spin up a new ad-hoc report or dashboard
  • Recovered a lot of revenue that had previously not been invoiced or noticed.
  • Improved customer service by allowing us to proactively notice issues and correct them for clients.
  • Decreased time and error rate when by switching to Sigma vs compiling reports in spreadsheets
  • Building parameters to identify common or key issues has greatly helped us maximize delivery to clients
Prior to implementing Sigma, we were downloading query results and analyzing them in a spreadsheet, which was time-consuming and error-prone. Sigma has sped up this process significantly and increased the quality and consistency of the reports by automating the process.
This helps us inform stakeholders and decision-makers on business decisions and client discussions.

For example, we've been tracking how a recent business decision has been impacting revenue by creating a new report in Sigma that we can monitor continuously and see how our clients have responded to the change, and the impact on revenue and quality of deliveries. There have been many instances where a stakeholder or decision maker has requested specific information, and Sigma has allowed us to turn around the report within an hour vs a day or two using our previous methods
Sigma has made a positive impact on our ability to conduct iterative ad-hoc analyses by making it quick and easy to create new reports when one is requested, or thought of. If the report identifies a continuing trend, it's trivial to convert it to an ongoing report or dashboard to track the impact of decisions and steer the course of those changes if any are needed.
Google Data Studio is free, intuitive and easy to use but the analytics are limited. In-table calculations can't be done easily and it lacks a native connector for Snowflake. Moreover, table columns cannot be arranged in any order--they must be dimension first, and metrics second. Tableau is powerful and makes visually compelling reports, but the learning curve is extremely steep if one isn't already familiar with existing data visualization or business intelligence platforms. In our case, it's not connected to our data source, and importing/joining data requires a fair bit of setup as well. Qlik is very fast and powerful, but very few people on our teams have seats on the platform.

Currently we're onboarding additional users onto Sigma so our usage count continues to grow.

Currently the business functions represented are decision-makers, operations teams across several product divisions, sales, supplier relations and quality management teams.
5
Currently all of our usage is in-house and spread across several teams in an ongoing basis. The Business Intelligence team manages the administrative aspect of Sigma as well as the data connections. There are a few members who are not part of the BI team create the needed reports and dashboards for their respective teams' usage. The skills required are generally a knowledge of how spreadsheets work, and our BI team grants editing permissions on request, as we don't explicitly limit who can support our use of Sigma
  • Streamlining customer service by proactively identifying issues and reaching out to client
  • Real-time and accurate financial reporting
  • Identifying client trends and addressing as needed
  • Bringing in CRM data from another platform to monitor their team's workloads
  • Creating parameters to help us respond to project setups that specifically require our team's intervention
  • Reduce the amount of revenue loss by creating a "Quality" report that allows the viewer to set specific KPIs and identify projects that are at high risk
  • Creating a specific dashboard with selectable parameters that help our support team quickly identify projects that may have issues and proactively reach out to the client
  • Bring in additional data from other financial reporting and CRM platforms to create higher level reports
  • Merge the data with operational data for more granular observation of trends
Sigma has helped us a lot and has become an integral part of our daily workflow. It would be difficult to switch to another platform and have to rebuild the numerous metrics and performance reports that we have already established
Yes
Sigma primarily replaced an in-house reporting system that was over a decade old. The previous system simply created a CSV file of the results of an SQL query and it was up to users to parse the data so it was unable to report in real-time. The replacement was due to ease-of-use, as well as to reduce the turnaround time for generating reports. Previously, the business intelligence was responsible for custom queries on specific reports, which could take several days of back and forth to set up.
  • Other
I was not involved in the purchase of Sigma Computing
If it had to be done again, I'd likely dig more in depth as to how data can be connected and how much (or little) coding could be used, as well as evaluating the speed and performance to end users, of each of the prospective platforms.
  • Implemented in-house

I'm not sure if my license includes Premium Support, but I have never had trouble getting help with any issues thus far. The support staff are friendly, knowledgeable and tolerate my very basic questions. They have also submitted feature requests on my behalf
No
There was a case when I was attempting to put together a specific report when I ran into an issue on how to perform some of the calculations and format the report. I reached out via the support chat feature and described my issue. The support person offered to immediately jump on a Zoom screen share with me and help me work through my use case and issue, and helped me resolve it. I consider it an exceptional example of the support I've received thus far, because it felt like they were committed to helping without hesitation
Every time I've used the support chat, I get an answer in a few minutes and they always have helped me with an issue regardless of whether or not it's a Sigma issue or a user issue (ie. me). I never felt like they were beyond answering my basic questions about various functions or how to use them
  • Easily creating in-table calculations and pivot tables
  • Using parameters to create "filters" based on specific metrics or KPI
  • Date calculations involving the number of days from the beginning of the year or month (I think this is the case for any similar platform)
  • Formatting pie chart legends
  • Certain types of if-then statements that involve multiple parameters
As someone with no experience in Business Intelligence tools, but with moderate experience with spreadsheets, Sigma was a very easy transition. I've found it very straightforward and usable, especially compared to other tools which may require custom coding, or have a steep learning curve. Many of the functions are familiar to both people familiar with SQL and with spreadsheets

We use Sigma Computing as a data analysis and visualization tool for performance marketing and website analytics data stored in a cloud data warehouse. We needed a user friendly interface to generate analyses of large streams of client paid media data, that allowed for distribution of visualizations internally and externally that allowed for access control.
  • User interface.
  • Integration with other related services.
  • Loading speed.
  • Friendly learning curve.
  • Library of visualization types.
  • Standardization of advanced features across visuals.
  • Support articles for specific features.
Sigma Computing is a great tool for an organization that does not have access to expert database developers or programmers that would be able to operate a more customizable tool. Sigma's spreadsheet-like user interface is relatively straightforward for users who don't understand the intricacies of database management. The user admin features are advanced and allow for granular access control.

  • The largest positive impact has been saved time compared to building similarly functional dashboards through less powerful tools.
  • Product is still in development so we are being forced to migrate our dashboards to a new setup to retain functionality.
Sigma Computing allows you to access and visualize data from multiple sources much faster than other comparable tools. The speed of access allows for much more efficient analysis at scale. We integrate with Snowflake and the setup and access of Snowflake data is straightforward and easy to update for non database engineers.
Sigma Computing's features allow you to quickly replicate an analysis to be dissected by a different dimension. The user interface is friendly and similar to performing analyses in a spreadsheet tool like Excel or Google Sheets. Many of the formulas are the same and require just minor changes to syntax to use.
Sigma Computing is significantly faster and more versatile than Data Studio integrations for marketing data.
While it is less powerful than Tableau for data visualization, it is much easier to use due to its spread sheet like user interface.
Microsoft BI is a middle ground but is more focused on internal analyses than client facing data visualizations.
The heaviest users of Sigma are our marketing data analysts. They perform aggregation and analyses of various paid media and website traffic analytics data for clients of our ad agency. Analyses include content effectiveness, paid media ROI analyses and client facing performance reporting. Other users include clients who view data and performance marketing team members who use dashboards to optimize media campaigns.
5
Our data analysis team is comprised of business analysts with a technical analysis background. They have a working knowledge of relational databases and schema but are not data engineers.
  • Paid media analysis
  • Client facing reporting
  • Multi-source website traffic data aggregation
  • Internal budget/finance dash for accounting
  • User access history for tracking account based resourcing
  • Thought leadership focused public facing analysis
While it is not perfect, there are no critical missing features that would warrant us investing the resources to rebuild our analysis dashboards and client facing reporting in a different data viz platform.
  • Basic spreadsheet type analyses
  • Basic data visualizations (bar charts, etc.)
  • User access control
  • Advanced formulas have limited documentation
  • Troubleshooting broken formulas
Overall the platform is easy to use and hast 90% of desired features, however it is still early stage and some critical features from earlier versions were temporarily removed while the new version was being rolled out.

We use Sigma Computing as a replacement for Sisense Periscope to bring dashboards to users. We decided to use Sigma Computing because of its good capabilities for self service on a sheet-like UI. The ability to easily see the underlying data was a decision point for us. We are still migrating from our previous tool, but things are good so far.
  • Self service
  • Performance
  • Sheet (Google, Excel) environment
  • User interface for creating dashboards
  • Charts availability--they should add several more
  • Flexibility on adding components
  • Python and R integration
The product is great, and we are happy with them. Seeing the data like you are on a Google Sheet is awesome. The ability to see the underlying data is really good as well. Performance is a key point. Still, it has a lot of room for improvement. The user interface for creating a dashboard lacks flexibility. The number of available charts is pretty basic. I think it's a matter of time so they can keep improving the product.

  • Improved self service
  • Saved time on creating visualizations
  • Flexibility on creating dashboards is not good
  • Versioning dashboard is not good enough
  • Ability to create a good development process for dashboards is not good enough
  • It lacks of GIT integration
Definitely, the ability to see the underlying data and easily dig into that has made a great improvement for our business users. All the dashboards created were well received, and they are used a lot on daily basis. We are happy with Sigma Computing, and we look forward to getting some improvements on the tool to keep moving in the right direction.
Sigma Computing's ability to dig into the data is good for us regarding ad-hoc and self-service enablement. The ability to see the underlying data is one of the best features Sigma Computing provides. When you look at the data, and you can keep filtering, aggregating, and modifying your data, it helps a lot in making decisions because you don't need to way for ENGs to make changes to the data or the visualizations they created for you.
Sigma is better for us than our previous tools. Still, we are expecting more from them.
  • Data navigation
  • Underlying data
  • Sheet like interface
  • User Interface to create dashboards
  • Code versioning is not posible
  • Follow users usage is not good enough
  • Global Inventory documents is not good
  • Development process needs more refinement
Yes, but I don't use it
Once you have created your dashboard, the user interface is pretty good. But, when you're creating a dashboard the tool needs more improvement and to add flexibility for developers and users

We use Sigma Computing to develop dashboards - these dashboards display information on security analytics and Snowflake personnel analytics. It is used across the entire organization and solves several of our analytical hurdles.
  • Easy graphs
  • Easy to share and display
  • Easy to learn and code into a new dashboard
  • Requires an account to view
  • Need to be code savvy
  • Can be slow based on amount of data
Sigma Computing is a great tool and I would recommend it. It is used for data analytics and providing dashboards to turn numbers into a story.

  • Positive: easy to share with leadership
  • Positive: works with Snowflake for our customers
  • Positive: helps tell stories better than reports do.
It's easy to use and we have been using it for quite some time. Though, someone who is just getting started can quickly pick things up and begin creating beautiful dashboards. Data integration is also pretty seamless even when loading data from Snowflake. I enjoy using it and would recommend it.
Quick, efficient and always helpful.
We are a database organization, so it works seamlessly with Snowflake.
We have, it is something that we leverage within the Security team.
We are able to filter and report on large amounts of data that can be exported or displayed on a dashboard.
I was not involved.
Pretty similar, we look all analytics tools!

The entire organization. It ranges from the security team using it for log analysis and dashboards to the HR team looking at the new hire dashboard. It is an intricate part of seeing the bigger picture with our data and how we can develop strategies to make better use of such data.

There are dedicated resources who actually create the dashboards, set up the connectors, ingest the data and make the configuration changes. Those folks are required to know SQL and basic configuration handling when using sigma. It is a bit of a more technical role and requires patience when you get stuck.
  • Creating dashboards to view data in a picture
  • Exporting reports of just the data we need
  • Sharing dashboards, reports and idea via sigma
  • Using Sigma to share security dashboards rather than the security tools themselves
  • Easy export such as csv
  • Ingesting more data to create even more dashboards that speak to each other
  • Including more teams and their data problems
Because we are very satisfied with the product and would most likely renew because of the services it provides. It is a tool that you bring into your organization and let it change the way you analyze your data, present your data and share you date within the Respective teams.

The most important factor to us was the product functionality and what it could do. We wanted to ensure we brought in a tool that can provide data analytics into dashboards, reports and be easy to share. We are open to collaborating with other teams within to organization to better our platform.
We would evaluate a few more tools to be honest. I believe we covered what we needed to cover with Sigma but would love to have had more time to look at other competing tools in the market. This would’ve helped open our minds to other functionality that is unique to specific tools.
  • Don't know
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
We take change management seriously and it is required by all tools. So it did not matter that it was sigma. We follow the same procedures with any acquisition process.
  • Learning curve
  • Compatibility with systems
I don’t have enough insight as I was not a big piece of this implementation.
  • no training
There is a bit of a learning curve but a lot of the information is available online. You can do a quick search in your web browser search engine and find what error or functionality you are trying to perform. It’s harder for non-technical folks.
It’s a pretty easily configurable tool that you can make changes yourself. I believe it provides a good amount of flexibility in regards to configurations changes.
I do not. It is all unique to your organization and what you’re looking for! Some teams are more security driven than others so it’ll truly vary.
I believe single sign on was a big one to use but other than that. It is pretty configured already out of the box.
No
I have only used support one time and it was a pleasant experience. They are very quick, polite, knowledge and care for you to fix whatever issue you have run into. The agent I worked with was patient and looking for my problem to be resolved regardless of how long it would take.
  • Ingesting/connecting data
  • Creating dashboards
  • Creating rules in SQL
  • Loading the dashboards with a lot of data
  • Making small changes
It is a cloud service offering that is able to expand based on your usage.
Yes, as long as you don’t conduct user error sigma is always up and running and waiting for you to complete your dashboards.
It depends, it loads quickly for smaller dashboards but when loading larger amounts of data it takes more time to do so.

It isn’t too bad as Snowflake uses connectors to integrate with sigma.
