Slack is used by one business unit in our organisation. That business unit is responsible for providing engineering services to different clients. Slack is used for internal communication in our project. Slack provides some great features like private and public channels, where team members can communicate. We can say that Slack provides all required features to avoid communication gap between team members.
  • Private and public channels, direct message.
  • We can integrate few useful apps like Polly, Outlook Calendar, etc.
  • We can pin important messages in channels.
  • We can star the important message in direct message chats.
  • We can send piece of code in well formatted manner.
  • We can not share message to public channel from direct messages.
  • Some UI improvements are required, the old UI was great but the new version which was updated recently needs some UI improvements.
  • In text snippet, auto suggestion can be introduced for popular programming language.
Slack is really helpful when we need to discuss anything with team members. We can ping them or can Audio/Video call as well. This provides screen sharing feature as well. In channels we can tag right person for any relevant task, I personally like that feature. But still some improvements are required like we cannot schedule future calls here although we can integrate Outlook calendar plugin, the second one is, in screen sharing we cannot pass controls access to other person like Teams or GoToMeeting.

  • It has reduced communication gap between team members, so productivity of team has been increased.
  • Application downtime has been reduced now as responsible teams get alerts on Slack and immediately take action.
  • During lockdown, this app is really helpful to manage teams remotely.
We are using Teams as well but for channels and direct messages Slack is better than any other application I have used. Some time we face issue in screen sharing and that time we switch to Teams. But overall all the features which are required on daily basis are present in the Slack.
Their documentation is good. We can easily learn about any newly launched feature using that. In past, I went through the documentation to integrate Slack with few monitoring application like AppOptics and documentation was well described to easily set up the things.

We are currently using Slack in all work teams in the digital area. Each sector has its own Slack group and they are not interconnected. The marketing, web development, Windows application programming, and graphic design groups have their separate areas. Integration with external software tools is great. It has a very varied catalog and each digital production department makes use of the extra applications that are most convenient for it. There is also a space in Slack for the entire organization, which has a channel of official communications. It is very easy to send messages and receive them. This is where we resolve general issues and receive instructions regarding the company's management.
  • Perfect integration with external applications. The catalog is huge and responds before many needs of the digital work world.
  • Instant messaging is on another level because of all the features in the chats. The threads are great to continue a conversation.
  • Segment communication with channels that can be created at will. It's great to talk about various topics without mixing them.
  • The Search Bar is great: search even within the content of the documents shared.
  • At first, it is difficult to use Slack. It has many functions that are not intuitive to learn to use.
  • The browser application sometimes does not send notifications on time.
  • The license is expensive.
Slack maintains team communication focused on a single space. Productivity is greatly improved because integrated applications are kept in one place, which avoids distractions. It is great for digital work environments.
For occasions when you have to talk to staff who do not work in the digital areas, it is equally helpful. With the integrated Dropbox functionalities, you can share files referring to the important documentation of everyone in the company. It is not appropriate to use Slack without making the purchase of the paid license. The definitive limitation is that the free version has a limit of messages that can be saved, which includes the files that are sent.

  • It greatly increases the productivity of the team.
  • All the applications that I use in my day to day are integrated, I am not distracted from my work.
  • Team communication is very focused.
Before in the organization, we used Google Hangouts, but it was not well integrated into our team. The functionalities were very limited and could not cover our needs. The advice was very messy and we failed to meet the productivity objectives we had.
Slack's support is very good, he has answered every question made in detail. He also suggested the implementation of some useful applications for the web development team. The attention was personalized and constant.

Slack's features are amazing, I don't know any similar software. It is just what the organization needs, I have no doubt. Its external applications help a lot to improve the results in the enterprise.
I would not change anything. I really like Slack and I don't know anything like it.

No
All the members of the development team saw that we could integrate external applications. We did not know which ones to choose or those that existed or how to start doing a work dynamic that would work to make use of all those tools.
A person from the technical support team advised us about the available applications and the dynamics that we could use to improve the productivity of the equipment.

Slack has been our main communication platform for a few years now. We are so deep in it that, Slack has even replaced "email" as the main or formal form of written communication. We use it across the whole organization, for all departments, for absolutely all employees. And we didn't force this change. It actually happened on its own pace organically, due to the great value the platform gave to everyone on their day to day way of work. We have even brought in customers and suppliers into the system. Heck! We have designed a huge part of our delivery model to happen within Slack. The history of this company is divided in two: before and after Slack!
  • Slack is amazingly easy to use. People have been using chat applications for decades now, so Slack feels just like a chat app. There's practically no friction, or at least I didn't see one among all type of users.
  • The great amount of possible integrations with other systems makes Slack even a more seamless experience. When you start integrating Slack with your other systems, Slack starts to become the main hub for everything that it is going on, on your day to day. It becomes the main tool for work.
  • The pricing model is very fair. You only pay for the users who actually use it. This is especially helpful if you are bringing people in from outside the organization.
  • The mobile apps, both phone and tablet, are super stable. Same experience than with the desktop one.
  • None.
I don't see how a company wouldn't need something like Slack. In its most basic form, it is a real-time communication platform, which is something all organizations need. Slack performs especially GREAT on remote team-based types of work. Since all communications happen through the platform, everyone is aware of what's going on with each other's work.

  • All the positive impact! We have integrated slack to our delivery model, literally. We operate on top of it and the results have been all positive. The most obvious being having everyone on the same page. Good communication.
  • People is working smarter. By making communication easier and efficient, errors in operation have been reduced greatly.
Slack was designed specifically to a work/business environment, so it stacks up pretty well against most competitors. I think they actually created a new industry standard. Nobody was controlling the "team/company communications tool" space before. And they are updating the system constantly so they stay on top of the market, feature-wise. I haven't seen anything better out there.
I have never needed support.

All business functions. Is the main and official communications tool
You only need to know how to read. They have very good documentation in case you can figure out stuff, which I'm sure anyone can. I've never seen anyone needing help with slack. It is so easy to sue that everyone figures it out by themselves.
  • day to day real time communication
  • communication organized by departments, areas, teams, projects, etc.
  • People on the go can stay connect through the mobile apps
  • We built our delivery model on top of it. We stay connected on a daily basis with clients by inviting them into the platform
  • We have invited also suppliers. Communication with them is quick than ever.
  • The coolest thing is that you can actually get creative with Slack. There are so many 3rd party integration with so many different systems that you can build crazy scenarios or workflows using slack as core.
We are married for life with Slack.

Amazingly good. The app is super stable and you can do pretty much anything on it.
the most impressive part of my slack experience was seeing the rest of the organization adopting the tool to their daily work style so quickly and naturally.

We use slack for our IT department so we can keep in constant contact with everyone. We also have it where anytime our ticketing system or alert system gets activated it will alert the proper channel in slack so the entire team knows what is going on.
  • channels. This is great for our team so we can separate the chat depending on what it is about.
  • private message. It's great so you can message just one team member or pull several people into one chat.
  • history. it is great so you can search on items discussed months ago to recall what was said.
  • search. I would like to be able to search just one channel not everything
  • separate logins. would be nice to have everything on once screen so you don't have to switch back and forth.
Just to private message its overkill. For a team environment where you need to talk to many people in groups or alone it is great tool to have.

  • We have moved from Skype/lync chat to slack for our IT team. It has been a better service for our team over what Skype/lync pchat could do.
for a team it just works better and no need to have 5 servers to run enterprise version of Skype for Business.
8
We use it for our group chat for the IT department. We also use it for project chat.
8
There is not a lot needed to support slack. It just works the only hard part is creating channels if you need that and really anyone can do that its not hard at all.
  • Private messaging between IT staff
  • Group chat for our different locations and as a whole team
  • Project chat so we can add the team members that are working on the project so we don't flood the main channel with project chat.
  • We started working with an outside source for a project and was able to add him to our project chat.
  • We use slack over Skype business for our team chat
  • Not sure of what else we can do that slack is able to do.
Because it is a important product for our team and we use it everyday.
Yes
We replaced Skype for Business with slack for our IT department.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
The ease of use and the fact we can use it on our iphones when we are out of the office was a great factor. The other was that we can setup different groups to chat on projects.
We would do nothing different on our evaluation or selection process
Just do it you will not regret using this product.
  • Implemented in-house
No
We did everything at once since it was so easy to setup.
Change management was minimal
It was business as usual on change management since it was so easy to do. Plus we only did it for our IT department so it was not really needed.
  • We encountered no issues during implementation.
  • Self-taught
We have never had an issue with support.
Not Sure
I am not the one that writes the checks for this product so I am not sure what we pay for. I just know that we pay to have longer retention on our chats.
No
Most of the tickets we have put in were small problems and were fixed within a few days.
It is one of the best products we have used for our IT department.
  • sending a private message to someone.
  • setting up a new group chat
  • sending documents or files to someone or a group of people....drag and drop cant get easier then that.
  • I have found nothing difficult about using this product.
Yes
We love using it on our iphone's when we are away from the office. Helps us keep in constant contact with everyone on the team.
