The skill levels between the support people vary. One has entry level tech support knowledge. Another has a much higher level of tech knowledge. Both ends of the spectrum can help out each of our users. If it goes beyond their experience, support seems to get things taken care of.

I think with basic training anyone can use Slack. Like any other app, once the individual understands the rules and guidelines and which channel is used for what, and to use threads, and shortcuts, anyone can use the product. Basic typing and internet skills would be useful, along with being able to keep multiple conversations going at the same time.

My current company is quite small so we don't have a support organization. The only person providing support is the Slack Admin who also happens to be the CTO. The support of Slack requires very little effort as there are rarely any issues, the only requests are the occasional addition/removal of new and past employees, or the addition/removal of an app or integration. All of which requires minimal time from our CTO.

You only need to know how to read. They have very good documentation in case you can figure out stuff, which I'm sure anyone can. I've never seen anyone needing help with slack. It is so easy to sue that everyone figures it out by themselves.

You have to have more than basic technical knowledge to install Slack. In our company all IT employees and some managers have enough knowledge to support Slack. Once it's installed on server and proper permissions are given, there is no need to high technical knowledge to manage teams and users.
