SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is a highly useful tool used by small companies to fulfill the security requirements of their clients. It provides a centralized logging solution that allows users to store syslog messages from various network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, servers, UPS, and storage. Users find the software easy to set up and have had no issues with it since installation. It meets their needs without being too robust or expensive.

In case of incidents, Kiwi Syslog Server proves to be helpful as users can easily filter logs based on IP and incident time to retrieve relevant information. The software has a user-friendly interface and an easy-to-read log viewer, making it simple for users to navigate and find the necessary data. With the licensed version handling around 2 million messages per hour and the free version handling about 300,000 per hour, users can trust that their logging requirements will be met.

Not only is Kiwi Syslog Server reliable in storing and reporting on log file entries across multiple devices, but it also serves as a replacement for SolarWinds Orion Syslog, handling logs more effectively. It is widely used by network engineering teams and IT administrators to retain logs of critical network devices. Additionally, the software is being utilized to monitor data center servers and network devices, helping to identify various issues across the infrastructure and server hardware.

Overall, system administrators recommend Kiwi Syslog Server for its ease of installation, user-friendly interface, and the support provided by SolarWinds. It proves to be a valuable asset for companies in meeting their security requirements and streamlining their logging processes.

User-Friendly Central Logging Solution: Many users have praised the central logging solution for its user-friendly interface and easy implementation process. Reviewers appreciate the fast and simple setup, allowing them to quickly store syslog messages and convert them into readable forms.

Real-Time Event Monitoring: Several reviewers have mentioned that the ability to mark critical events with different colors is helpful in identifying and managing syslog messages centrally. The software also provides real-time alerts based on critical events, keeping users updated on important information.

Affordable Price Point: Users consistently mention that the product is inexpensive, with the whole package usually costing less than $300 USD. This affordable price point makes it an attractive option for customers looking for a cost-effective solution.

Search Functionality: Some users have found the search functionality to be lacking and have suggested improvements to enhance its effectiveness. They feel that the current search capabilities do not meet their needs and would benefit from additional features or refinements. Node Organization: Users have expressed concerns about the organization of nodes within the system. They believe that it could be improved to provide a more intuitive and efficient user experience. Suggestions include implementing better categorization or sorting options for easier navigation and management of nodes. A small company I was working with needed a centralized logging solution to fulfill some security requirements of a client. They didn't need anything robust and powerful (e.g. Splunk or SolarWinds' other logging solution) and they didn't want to spend too much money on the solution. Based on those requirements, SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog worked perfectly. The solution did everything we needed it to do and was very user-friendly.
  • User-friendly
  • Inexpensive central logging solution
  • Fast and simple implementation
  • Better search functionality
  • Improve organization of nodes
  • Support other backend OSs
The SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server does what it's supposed to do. It's a bare-bones Syslog Server. If your company is just trying to fulfill security requirements or doesn't need all the advanced features of a product such as Splunk, then Kiwi will work well and not break the bank. Using the tool is very straightforward as there aren't a lot of options outside of just viewing logs.
  • Centralized logging allows us to go to one place to see logs instead of each individual server.
  • Very easy setup compared to other solutions
  • No redundancy built-in
SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog is a bare-bones Syslog Server. It doesn't have the advanced features of Splunk and SolarWinds Log Analyzer such as alerting, log analysis, event correlation, etc. However, if you're an SMB and just need a solution to fulfill a security requirement, then Kiwi may be a perfect fit. Deployment is quick and easy, and the UI is very straightforward.
Because the solution is so simple to use and implement, support wasn't very necessary. The one time I did call them to better understand where logs were stored, they were very helpful and friendly. Kiwi has been around for some time and not a lot has changed over the years, so support for it is pretty straightforward and quick.

We use SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server to accumulate and store all of the log entries from our network devices, firewalls, servers, and printers. SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server was very easy to set up and we have had no issues with it since it was installed. I recommend it to any system administrator that needs to store and report on log files entries across multiple devices. Excellent!
  • Stores log file entries from multiple devices.
  • Provides a simple easy to install and use interface.
  • The setup menu is a little cumbersome and could be improved and simplified.
  • Easier on-demand reporting would be useful.
SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is an excellent log file storage and reporting program and is also very inexpensive for unlimited nodes. That is unusual in today's systems and network administration market. Most software in those categories is way overpriced for small to medium-sized businesses. SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is affordable and works well.
  • SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server has made it easier for me to monitor events on all of my network devices and servers.
  • As a small business, we needed something powerful but inexpensive and SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is exactly that.
PRTG is a great package and very useful, but the jump from the free 100 sensor price model to the first tier of the paid model is WAY too expensive. SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is very inexpensive and provides us with the results we needed for log monitoring.
SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is inexpensive and it works. It's easy to install and setup and is also very easy to learn how to administer. I recommend it to anyone needing log monitoring and reporting, especially if the price is a concern as it is with almost all businesses now.

Kiwi Syslog is used only internally by our network engineering team. We consider it to be highly useful; as it's easy to set up and has minimal need for any additional configuration. We use it regularly as a replacement for the SolarWinds Orion Syslog that is part of their NPM package; as we find that the NPM syslog can't always keep up with logs.
  • Fast! Logging is close to real-time.
  • Simple set up
  • Cheap. The whole product is usually less than $300 USD.
  • Minimalistic; If you're looking for something with analysis features look elsewhere.
  • Operating System support is Windows only.
  • Some management features cannot be configured via web interface.
SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server really thrives in environments where the network is small enough that high scalability or log analysis are not required. I would avoid using this in a network where automated log analysis is required, and would look more at a SIEM or something in that same vein. It should also be noted (and hopefully managers or product purchasers are reading) that this isn't the same as a SIEM, and therefore isn't a suitable alternative to one -- though it is great for what it is.
  • Increased visibility into Network Issues
  • Reduced Downtime
  • Centralization of Logging
Kiwi Syslog has the best usability of any syslog server. While not being able to offer the most features, the ones it does have are intuitive and easy to work with. Everything that it has is where you think it should be. If you can't find it in the menus, it doesn't exist.
SolarWinds support is pretty decent, but I wouldn't rate them much higher than that. They do a good job in most cases, but sometimes they just tell you that "that's how it is," and provide no solution. Other than that, they are pretty helpful. Also worth mentioning is their "Thwack" forums, which has an excellent user community.
Our group already had a license for the Orion Syslog server that comes bundled with Orion NPM, but it didn't quite meet our requirements for performance. Elasticsearch and Graylog easily met our performance requirements, but not enough team members were able to manage the software and handle updates, or security patching. An added bonus was of course the pricing of the application.
