The user interface is lacking. It is difficult to navigate at times and things can be done multiple ways. Quite often I am confused by how their notification structure works. It is not very intuitive. They do offer a free Academy. They also offer a community of other technical folks. I have enjoyed both.

The amount of features, the ease of use, automation, backup and restore, compatibility with Cisco IOS, and all the help with compliance requirements we need to follow made this solution very useful. I believe the user interface can be a bit more use friendly. The tool has many features and user friendliness can make it more appealing especially for non-network people.

I have used other products and I keep coming back to SolarWinds. It is a simple, easy to understand interface that has a repeatable installation. It is also as complete and complex as the end user wants it to be. If you are tasked with configuration management and are not a network engineer by trade, this tool can help to keep you PCI/HIPAA/SOX compliant on your network infrastructure.

overall usability is easy and simple. you use the discovery element and if all your snmp communities are setup right in your equipment network config manager will have no problems downloading your configs. if you decide to you don't need them for a particular device you simply tell it not to backup using ncm. it's that easy.
