Pingdom is a helpful tool that allows us to monitor websites we develop and run a variety of tests, identify trends, to ensure optimal performance. We especially love the page speed analysis tool which is helpful to benchmark our clients' websites' with performance grades and identity ways to improve page speed and overall performance.
  • Page speed monitoring and performance grading
  • Identifying performance issues and bottlenecks
  • Providing insights into how to improve website performance
  • Website uptime monitoring and alerts
  • The feature set is not as rich as it could be
  • While a great tool, its a bit pricey for what you get
  • Reports should be more customizable
If you are looking to take your page speed optimization to the next level, Pingdom is a great tool. It is very valuable at helping to identify issues, benchmark your pefromance and check to see the results of your optimization efforts. If you aren't using other uptime alert and server monitoring tools, those features will be very beneficial.
  • Pingdom has helped us improve our website page speed optimization practices immensely.
  • Pingdom has allowed us to benchmark the speed of our websites and provide clients with reports.
  • Pingdom has given us the insights needed to make performance-based tweaks to improve our websites.
Pingdom provides better isights than Google PageSpeed Insights and is more affordable for the unlimited websites than GTmetrix. Featurw wise, Pingdom is very similar to GTmetrix, but I personally believe that the interface and user experience is significantly better than GTmetrix. Google provides some helpful insights for free, but not near the level of insights that Pingdom does.
We have very rarely needed to contact support and the product is well-documented. There are a number of helpful articles and FAQs that will solve your issues right away. Support is timely and reasonable. The product has been easy to use and has required very little in the way of support.

The feature set was definitely the most important factor in making our decision. We wanted a tool that providing uptime monitoring, as well as could provide us with insights into page speed and website performance, all within one convenient platform. Price was a secondary factor, but features and usability were definitely the most critical factors in our selection of Pingdom.
Pingdom is easy to use, very intuitive and has a very short learning curve. From the onset, we've been able to jump in and leverage the tool to accomplish our goals for page speed performance and discover the insights we need to make improvements. Its a well-designed tool and makes for a good user experience.

I've deployed SolarWinds Pingdom in a few customer deployments to help facilitate site checking of the network post migration. This tool helps to check interconnectivity between data centers by checking the recovery and response of remote applications during a migration exercise. Demonstrating to the customer the ability of the tool to check their end hosts/applications and the length of outage builds up their confidence during a maintenance activity.
  • End host response.
  • End site recovery times.
  • API recovery.
  • Based on limited use I haven't seen any shortcomings as of yet.
Corporate data center migrations are highly sensitive to any type of outage. During live system cutovers, network migrations and integration between data centers, Pingdom was used to check system communications and response times prior to, during and after the network activities. By monitoring the systems along with reports generated I was able to see the issues and address them quickly.
  • Quick response to outages.
I have used a host of other ping applications that were used to generate responses back from end hosts but that just shows the responsiveness of the host and not the applications. Seeing the response back from an application is crucial especially when a system is taken down and is sensitive to any network outage.
Based on the ability of Pingdom to help determine system outage times and report it is helpful. It's almost instant and I can provide this info to the customer and their groups that are involved in the troubleshooting during a window. I like the visualization of issues along with how accurate the data is.

Quick deployment and movement between sites helps us resolve numerous issues
Usability is good. Portability is also good. I am able to place this on various VMs in the DC and use that to help determine what areas to concentrate on. It also helps to find issues prior to a window that I can identify as not being part of the work to be performed and that the customer needs to address.
