  • Instead of designing standard components, I can directly import it from design library, thus saving my simulation time and improves productivity.
  • No manual weight calculation, SOLIDWORKS will do the same for us
  • For complex components, the results are not very accurate, hence need to use different software for the same.

  • The ROI of SolidWorks occurred for our company likely within the first 6-12 months of its adoption (13 years ago). These days, it's hard to imagine running our business without it as it is the foundation for all of the products we manufacture.

  • Hard to answer directly. Given our customer's needs, we absolutely have to have SW to open their file types.
  • Given the relatively limited use we need at our company, it would be useful to have a cheaper option that was more stripped down but still had some capabilities. Something in-between SW and eDrawings, for example. SW is very capable and expensive, eDrawings is free and super limited. Would be nice to have a middle option.

  • They have a fair licensing model that requires yearly renewals but the costs are not terrible by comparison to other software.
  • The upgrade process could be a little easier but it's not terrible and the available support is always there if needed.

  • Especially useful when building complex sheet metal parts, such as hoppers and tanks - saves a lot of time!
  • Allows you to view and build 3D parts that you can move to other view points to make construction and manipulation easier
  • SOLIDWORKS is a bit expensive and doesn't come with a good way to manipulate the 2D files you can export from it.

  • Faster design iterations and fewer errors lead to quicker time to market.
  • It took about two and a half months to learn versus four and a half months learning other CAD programs.
  • Ramp up time to productivity in SOLIDWORKS improved by 50%.
