Splashtop - A Cut Above the Rest

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We support over 400 computers in the field using Splashtop to provide seamless access to resolve IT issues. Beyond remote access capabilities, the tool also provides a method to transfer files from your local PC to the client PC (or vice versa) to facilitate installations or assist with diagnosis. This is a core tool that we utilize every day and are able to bring our clients under our umbrella and grant them access to their computers from home as well. It is truly a win/win situation.

Pros

  • Remote Access
  • File Transfer
  • Log activity
  • Deploy easily on Windows
  • Remote printing that actually works

Cons

  • Data transfer rates could be higher
  • Allow for resolution change on the host side instead of needing to open the streamer on the remote device as seeing things could be difficult

Return on Investment

  • Save on gas
  • Save on mileage
  • Save my time
  • Save my colleagues time
  • Enhance my customer's computing experience
  • Deliver fast and responsive results

Once does not simply remote access in your business... Unless its with Splashtop.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Splashtop across our entire organization with varying purposes. Splashtop allows remote access flexibility for the entire staff, even though in-office is required most of the time. Splashtop offers a nearly 100% productivity level in emergency situations, should the office be closed from inclement weather or something similar. We have already used it to this effect, and it's highly efficient and effective. Before Splashtop, we used a competitor's remote access tool that has been around a very long time, and the performance and reliability of Splashtop vs. that old product was literally shocking for our tech committee during the proposal to switch to Splashtop. Additionally, IT utilizes Splashtop for efficient virtual server access, software/policy deployments, and emergency SOS access for out-of-office users, both on desktop devices and mobile devices. Our adoption of Splashtop has been game-changing for our organization. The ability to have reliable remote access, coupled with the more advanced Enterprise tools, has probably increased efficiency so much that it's had a direct impact on business revenue.

Pros

  • Unbelievable performance! It's so fast I tested a PC game through it just for fun, and it was incredible!
  • The increase in productivity throughout our organization has been notable. The flexibility of employees to occasionally work remotely, when needed, has been hugely beneficial.
  • Enterprise IT tools like One-to-Many actions has saved us a lot of time and headache in certain situations, such as deploying a basic MSI or script. SOS has been a saving grace for some employees to receive remote IT support in emergency situations, as well.

Cons

  • I would like to see an integration with a wider variety of antivirus XDRs. We spend a lot of money on Sophos, which is arguably the most effective product on the market. It would be nice if Splashtop and Sophos Central could work together to increase some efficiency and security.
  • It would be really great if PCs or devices could be excluded from the antivirus monitoring of Splashtop. For example, some employees use the Splashtop Streamer on home PCs (not owned by the company), so they can remote to their home machines while at the office. Occasionally, Splashtop will report threats to a home user PC that are false or breach personal privacy. Then, those get logged with the device forever. The ability to have IT Admins command Splashtop to ignore device security would be very welcomed.

Return on Investment

  • Prior to the onboarding with Splashtop, our employees were basically of the mind that productive and reliable remote access was unrealistic. However, since we're a practicing law firm, the billable hours for attorneys has increased around 15% since they can essentially work anytime/any day without coming to the office.
  • Splashtop has provided a solid piece of our Disaster Recovery Plan and backup systems. Prior to Splashtop, inclement weather would close the office and cease 95% of productivity, which could last a day or a week, sometimes multiple times annually. With Splashtop, it doesn't matter if the physical office is closed. As long as there's power, our employees can be 95% productive, instead, while being 100% remote. The remaining 5% is because our industry relies so heavily on paper. A 95% increase in billable hours and earning revenue on days that would have been 5% is quite good!
  • The relief that Splashtop has provided the IT department through real-time office inventory, incredible tools for assisting users, deployment of policy, deployment of software, and remote access at anytime/anywhere is substantial. Splashtop has had a direct impact on IT's ability to keep services operational and efficiently managed, which in turn, keeps the earners happy and earning.

Usability

Solid Remote Support Better Customer Service

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Splashtop as an individual IT service provider. I provide on-call technical support to small businesses and use Splashtop remote access to connect to all of my clients' on-site workstations and administrative laptops. Remote access allows me to manage, update, troubleshoot, and monitor client workstations and networks, as well as communicate with users directly in real-time while connected via the chat feature.

Pros

  • Splashtop provides simple deployment options for both the provider and client
  • Built-in features like file transfer and chat make it easy for provider-to-client interaction
  • Customer service is timely, responsive, and genuinely helpful

Cons

  • I would like to see the chat tool be more modernized
  • Built-in screen recording would be awesome
  • Display resolution of remote machines is not always optimal depending on the machine's OS/settings. I would like the ability to use a standard base resolution that maximizes readability regardless of the remote machine's current settings.

Return on Investment

  • Splashtop makes it feasible for a 1-person show like me to provide reliable and valuable service to my clients
  • Splashtop saves me time, which saves me money and also gives me flexibility in how I operate and govern my business

Splashtop - does what it says on the tin.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Splashtop On-Prem to access store workstations, and it works great! Connects easily, passes through sound so we can troubleshoot those issues as well, and makes file transfer simple. Splashtop Business is used to support individual computers for which we don't want to have instant access available, and this also works very well - a quick code, and a full connection is ready to go. Both enable easy IT management of remote systems with minimal fuss. Good stuff all round.

Pros

  • Quick remote access.
  • Easy to locate computers on network.
  • Allows full control, including passthrough of admin credentials.

Cons

  • Remote wake-on-lan?
  • For Splashtop Business, maybe have the code window not appear to users again once connection is almost finished. "It gave me another code [proceeds to read same code again]"
  • From the user end, it looks _very_ similar to remote control tools used by scammers. Not sure how to make things look safer these days.

Return on Investment

  • Not having to drive to every location is a game-changer.
  • Saving so much on gas, not to mention customer satisfaction.

Other Software Used

Microsoft 365

5 Star Remote Desktop Solution.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I can log in to my work PC from home or on the road and do all my work.

Pros

  • Restarts after my pc restarts.
  • Screen selection is easy.
  • Resolution is very good.

Cons

  • Wake up computer from home.

Return on Investment

  • Upper management doesn't have to wait for me to be back in the office for reports.
  • Phone functionality is superior to Chrome Remote Desktop.
  • Saves time and reduces anxiety if you need to run reports while away or over the weekend.
