SolarWinds SQL Sentry is designed to help data professionals optimize SQL Server database performance in physical, virtual, and cloud environments. SQL Sentry delivers metrics to help users find and fix database performance problems and provides scalability, boasting demonstrated success monitoring 800+ SQL Server instances with one monitoring database.

Why Switch to SQL Sentry?

The tool is used directly to analyze performance and alert on on issues by the database administrators. The alerts generated by the tool are used by support personel to route issues appropriately. There is a small number for developers and operations personal that use the tool to evaluate issues with campaign runs.

Sql Sentry, a power tool for DBAs

Sentry One users are typically DBAs and developers. We use it to monitor systems in production, evaluate development efforts and orchestrate overnight processes. For our organization the orchestration tools are the differentiate the product from other tools in the market.

SentryOne forms part of our Managed Service offering. The primary users are SQL DBAs that use SentryOne for 2 main functional areas:
1. Monthly reports.
2. Point in time troubleshooting.
Monthly reporting with SentryOne gives us a standard model that DBAs use to engage with our clients on performance profiles and alerting of monitored SQL servers.
Troubleshooting also becomes more standardized for DBAs with SentryOne and allows all of our DBAs to function and behave in the same manner during investigations.

DBA team supports the infrastructure database platform and utilizes SQL Sentry to monitor the production SQL environment to proactively tune servers being monitored and will troubleshoot production issues when they arise. The App\Dev team builds in-house SQL ETL processes and uses SQL Sentry to performance tune their processes.
