Read&Write is better because all the tools are in one place vs Kami which is mostly just a PDF reader and annotation tool. Orbitnote is comparable to Kami so I wish that were included within Read&Write. We also have had our IT team thoroughly review Read&Write and it meets our software governance standards.

Clicker was missing from the list.
The benefit of using Read&Write over other software has been its integration with Google, and that it brings all the features into one toolbar.
This means we are not adding additional cognitive load to our students.

I've always found Read&Write superior to Kurzweil and we do have a small volume/web license of K3000 for those students that have used it in the past and I am not able to convert them to Read&Write. Dragon is one of the Speech Recognition options. I lean towards using the Windows 11 Voice access feature as i find it superior to Read&Write in terms of accuracy. Dragon is reserved to those that need to build a custom vocabulary. I do show the Talk&Type feature in students are on Windows 10 or earlier.

I really think that Read&Write outshines the competitors. Its variety of tools offers so many options to so many students/people. Some of the other tools were cumbersome, only worked on installed programs like MS Word or only worked in its own environment. Read&Write works anywhere so there are literally no limitations to its use.

It seems that Google is working to add some of the same features within the Google suite which will be nice, however, it does not seem that they are focused on the same goals for learners, so right now, it does not compare fully.

Switching all learning content to PDF would interrupt the workflow for teachers assigning student work or tests on google classroom. Kami also does not have word prediction to support the students with writing needs such as dyslexia.

We haven’t used Kami in awhile, but it did not measure up when we last tried it.
All the Don Johnston products do things very well. We always had all the products because they are similar but did some things better than Read&Write. For example, word bank is a real time saver to staff who have students that need a word bank, the summary feature helps them adapt material and give the student a quick overview of the article. The translation support in Co:Writer and Snap&Read are superior to Read&Write. The outline tool is a fabulous tool for students of all ages. Staff have used it in courses they are taking!

There are other tools that do similar things as Texthelp, but none of them are extensions that work within the chrome browser. They also do not incorporate all of the integrated tools that Texthelp does, which means users would need to go to different websites or apps to take advantage of the various features. Texthelp really brings them all together in one simple tool that has become a staple in the special education classroom.
