Reviews
(1-25 of 39)- Click to Speak - allows students to use the text to speech element
- Orbit Note app works very well on the Chromebooks
- The settings are easy for the students to adjust the pitch, speed and other aspects of the voices
- The Read&Write toolbar doesn't appear to be fully compatible with touchscreen - would be nice to see that improved
Powerful software that provides for everyone
- Reading back text
- Reviewing PDF documents
- Spell checking
- Universal compatibility across devices/OS's
- Updating itself
Read & Write - Fantastic Product!
- Screen Reader
- Colour Tints
- Dyslexia Support
- Different voices on Screen Reader
Read&Write is improving equitable access!
- The screen reading tool is most valuable
- Word prediction is great for kids with limited spelling
- The picture dictionary is used by staff to create visual schedules
- The highlighters are used by our high school students as a study tool
- Make the iPad use more seamless
- Include Orbitnote in Read&Write
- One pagers for teachers would be helpful
Read&Write ensures a level playing field
- Allows an equal playing field for all students of all abilities.
- Has the ability to scan documents in of any condition (OCR).
- Extremely customisable, (voices, colours, speeds etc.).
- Exam mode is amazing.
- You can only open PDF reader for a maximum of two documents at a time.
- Documents over 30 pages struggle to scan sometimes and cause the program to crash.
- Struggles to read the periodic table.
Read&Write is a great tool to support all learners
- Helping to break down words using the dictionaries
- Read to me tool
- Speech to text with the ability to speak in different languages
- Screen mask tool for a whole screen colour or a reading line
- A more human sounding reading tool would be benefit that adapts to certain words better
- Some definitions are not always totally correct and perhaps could benefit from community feedback
- The Google search tool would be better if it kept you in the document rather than opening Google
Enhancing Learning and Literacy Experiences
- Speech recognition - pupils rely less on additional staff to support writing activities in the classroom.
- Text read aloud - this is ideal in the classroom as again, teaching assistants are not required to sit beside the pupil to read text.
- Proofreading - I use this tool when submitting large documents as I can hear errors when the work is read aloud. Being dyslexic myself, I can not always spot mistakes.
- The speech-to-text could be improved as when the class is busy words are missed. At times words have to be repeated and this can cause frustration amongst our pupils. My hope with further advancements in AI this will improve.
Read&Write Review
- Reading Text at a pace suitable for the user
- Compatible will all devices in our school
- Very easy for us as ICT support to install site wide
- The loading time of the software sometimes can be a little slow
Read&Write for Google is great!
- Checks grammar and spelling
- text to speech feature
- speech to text feature
- highlighting tools
- screen masking
- The Check it tool is not always accurate and often makes recommendations that are not helpful like underlining half of a word or suggesting capitalization when it's not indicated.
- The students would love human voices for text to speech
- It would be helpful for the highlighting tools to collect on the same document from multiple articles/web pages instead of making a new Google Doc for each page with highlights.
Read&Write Review
- Read&Write works well with Word in Office 365 (we are a Microsoft board)
- Read&Write is excellent in the speech to text and text to speech areas.
- We love the prediction tool, especially for users whop are apprehensive to dictate yet still require spelling support.
- We love the collect highlights feature, especially when we are researching a webpage in order to write a research paper.
- We love the summarize tool!
- One main thing that I think could be improved is reducing the lag time when using text-to-speech tools. Even when our laptops are up-to-date and firmware is also up-to-date, I find that there is a significant lag time between selecting text to be read using text-to-speech and the tool actually "speaking". In some cases it has been 15 more more seconds, and this has "lost" some students that I have worked with. This is similar with the lag time experienced between dictating and words actually showing up on the screen when using the Talk&Type feature. Again, I feel that these tools are great and we are happy to have them, but I have found that the lag time is often a barrier to usage for some of our students and even staff.
- It would be so lovely if voice notes were available for Microsoft users with the R&W Chrome extension.
- I also think that it would be great if highlights could be collected across several websites, etc. into the same "collect highlights" document.
Read&Write is a gamechanger for students
- Text-to-speech
- study tools (highlights and collecting highlights
- scanning and OCR (scan feature and screenshot reader
- Voices for Windows (more natural)
- Speech Recognition is hit and miss
- Spell Check is in need of a bit of an update to bring it up to par with Grammarly
Support All Our Students
- Word prediction
- Speech to text in English
- The highlighting tools!!
- Picture dictionary
- word prediction in French
- I would love to see the ability to have multiple highlights from various webpages merge onto one Google doc
Rural K-12 District Review
- Voice to text
- Reads text aloud
- Screen masking
- Simplifies screen
- Provides dictionaries (pictures & word definitions)
- Hover speech
- Word prediction - we have to have a separate subscription for Co:Writer to get the enhanced features
Read&Write and how it supports LD users
- text-to-speech is great. lots of options for voices and speed
- gives both word prediction and talk&type as writing supports
- the fact that it is a toolbar that can be used in native programs is huge for our students because it allows them to be independent in their learning activities
- Read&Write is very intuitive and requires very little training for the text-to-speech tools so it is very easy to train students and staff
- I wish the Check It tool was available on the web (only in GDocs currently)
- I wish the highlighter/collect highlights would collect citation information (kind of a combination of MyBib and highlighters)
- One weird thing with the Reading tools (text-to-speech) is that if you are zoomed in to FIT on a GDoc it does glitchy stuff (skipping or not displaying) vs when you are at 100% zoom
- why isn't Rewordify in Read&Write in a Google Doc? only on web version? Same for Simplify text tool.
Read&Write an easy to use UDL solution
- Text to speech
- speech to text
- data desk for testing
- study skills (collect highlights)
- we need more info on Windows PC Exam tools
- we wish the platform worked inside other platforms
- make equatio a part of the same tool
Read&Write for Education
- The reading tools are great.
- I love how the option for multiple languages supports new language learners.
- The picture dictionary is fantastic, extensive and meaningful.
- The word dictionary is too difficult and often doesn't lead to clarification of meaning.
- I would like to see a click to speak on the web toolbar rather than hover speech. Students sometimes have difficulty understanding the hover speech.
- An option in settings to combine the images from the picture dictionary with the translation tool.
- Having a Canadian dictionary, spelling and pronunciations would be great.
Read&Write 4GC is an invaluable Tool
- OrbitNote for PDF annotation
- Text-to-speech with customized settings
- rewordifying text on websites
- math tools
- I would like word prediction to be able to be set to default so that it opens automatically for certain students
- To be able to access the OrbitNote on iPads
- I don't like losing the option of the OCR tool with Snapverter-I like the use of the snapverter app with students
Longtime user of Read&Write
- Read aloud selections
- Read aloud papers that the student has generated
- provide highlights for important points
- I would like to see the read feature first in the line up. then the other options further down.
Read&Write for Education
- text to speech (like the settings with this)
- speech to text (sometimes it has issues, but seems to be getting better)
- Picture dictionary (love that these are click and drag)
- Please continue to improve translation tools, whole doc and read aloud
- Please keep improving speech to text...sometimes updates seem to make this tough
- Please continue to work on Orbit Note, this tool has had quite a few login issues
Read&Write for Education
- It is a game changer for working online and removing ads and simplifying pages.
- Having the ability to create user profiles for different languages is amazing
- The prediction tool along with the dictionaries/translation tool really help English Language Learners access the learning
- Speech to text and playback are a great combination for writing and editing documents efficiently
- Sometimes the tools are laggy. Especially the playback button. This causes students to stop using it.
- Whenever Google updates chrome, Read&Write tends to develop more glitches. It would be great if more open communication between TextHelp and Google was started to avoid the weeks of disruption to student learning
- The simplify page tool is often glitchy when used on online articles. This has been the case since a major Google upgrade about 18 months ago. About 50% of the time the article is not simplified...only the comments from the article appear on the simplified page.
Read&Write for Student Independence
- Word Prediction
- Dictionary
- Simplify Page
- The voice to text can be tricky for students that do not have developed, age level speech.
- At times, word prediction varies in use depending on the application. Glitchy with Google Forms.
Read&Write supports both staff and students
- word prediction
- read aloud (web and google platforms)
- highlight collections
- vocab builder- enter the words individually rather than collecting highlighted words
Read&Write is where it's at!
- Helps students compose.
- Helps students edit.
- Helps students read comfortably.
- When a tool doesn't work as intended, it can tank the whole lesson. At times, it's a ton of back and forth with Text help to alleviate the issues.
- The tools are amazing, but I had to figure out the best way to teach students to use them in both reading and writing, and by age group.
I love Read&Write!
- Text to speech
- Highlighter collector
- Visual dictionary
- Web search
- I love it! Can't think of any.
