I use Autodesk Tinkercad to develop promotional and educational materials for my non-profit organization. The program has a user-friendly interface that allows you to create custom 3D models that are easy to export and print. You can also use the program to add logos or text to existing models. I often use it to add 3D labels to models of artifacts for our museum, or even to create brail labels for visually impaired visitors. I also use the program to create unique and memorable gifts for donors.
  • Excellent workspace.
  • User-friendly interface for 3D modeling.
  • Easy to import and modify existing models.
  • High-quality exports in all major formats.
  • Controls can be finicky.
I have found that Autodesk Tinkercad is best for creating simple 3D models for printing. I use it to add text or modifications to 3D models of artifacts for my museum, including labels and support structures for artifacts to stand on. I also use it to create promotional materials, like 3D models of artifacts with our logo on them, which we can print and pass out at events. I would not use Autodesk Tinkercad for more complex 3D modeling or editing 3D models. It's really designed for basic creation and modification, and in those areas it is extremely useful!

Tinkercad is a great tool for simplistic design. It is perfect for anyone without a CAD background with a simple and intuitive interface. I've used this to make simplistic objects that were then easily exported for 3D printing. This is also great for kids as sort of a first CAD program.
  • Intuitive Design
  • Make 3D printing files
  • Learn basic CAD skills
  • Best for simple parts
  • Seems more of a toy compared to more professional software
  • Hard to tell measurements sometimes
The price is right and the capabilities are great. As long as it does everything you need then go for it. It's not a simulator or great for complex parts, but if you have no CAD background, but want to make a 3D object to be printed this is about as easy as it's gonna get.

It is a great introduction to 3D modeling and design for students during our stem challenges at school. We use it with the upper elementary, and others use it with middle school students. Great for project-based learning and helping students bring their prototype ideas to life, and it mimics real-world stem careers.
  • Simple 3D tools
  • Free and online and accessible
  • Has tutorials
  • The tutorials could be more easily readable and easier for younger students
  • Sometimes confusing how to use the mouse tools vs on an iPad
  • Less professional, not often used in career fields
I think it is a great and well-known tool for stem in schools, for 3d printing, for teaching 3d modeling basics and tutorials to learn on your own, for teachers and students to use, and to create on a desktop or an iPad. It’s a great cheaper, accessible option!

We use Autodesk Tinkercad as part of our customer Outreach Program. In this program, we bring in the children of our clients and teach them the fundamentals of 3D Printing and CAD design in a "Day Camp" style event. Autodesk Tinker CAD is an easy-to-use program that provides the near-instant ability for the user to create 3D objects and export them for 3D Printing.
  • Simple, easy to use 3D Design
  • Quick rendering and output of 3D Files for printing
  • The ability to save files locally instead of having to export them would be nice
  • The randomly assigned default names given to files can be confusing
Autodesk Tinkercad is the perfect web-based software for anyone thinking about dabbling in 3D Modelling. It is easy to learn and its cloud-based rendering makes for fast work even on computers with slower graphics cards.

Tinkercad is a great tool to start 3d modelling. Even though you are an advanced 3d designer, you might be found yourself using it. It simplifies the process of 3d design. Tinkercad mainly solves primitive design needs. It is not a full design suite. But it contains a lot of feature for a maker or a STEM teacher. Tinkercad consists of multiple modules such as electronics(Arduino), coding, classroom, Minecraft, Lego bricks etc.
If I needed a simple 3d object to print out from my 3d printer, I definitely first tried designing it on Tinkercad. It is easy to use and compatible with 3d printers. In many cases, I use it for my 3d file repair tool. Just upload the file to Tinkercad, and then download it repaired.
  • Tinkercad is very easy to use. Most of the 3d design software have steep learning curves.
  • It is compatible with 3d printing. It is a proper tool which gives you solid 3d files needed for 3d printing.
  • Tinkercad is fun to use. There are tones of 3d models created by the community. You could share your designs or even collaborate on designs.
  • Must have tool for STEM teachers. It provides both electronics and coding features in a proper way.
  • Tinkercad is an online tool. If the internet is off then Tinkercad stops.
  • Tinkercad is mostly for beginners and students of 3d design. Its capabilities have a limit. Besides Tinkercad touch screen device capabilities are also limited.
  • Rendering options are very limited, nearly none. There is no lighting feature. You could only give plain colours to your models.
Tinkercad is very useful for 3d printing. You could export your designs in STL and OBJ file formats which are used by 3d printers. You could design basic objects with it. It has no sculpting nor animating features. Tinkercad is mainly for newbies. Thus, if you want to advanced 3d design possibilities then you should try other software.

I have implemented Tinkercad in my classroom and train around Thirty-Six students every six months. I introduce reductive and additive sculpture, as well as 3D printing concepts in my training program. I use the projects provided by Tinkercad to reinforce the training program I have created to introduce the program. Most users have no CAD experience at the start and can create complex forms after two weeks.
  • Tinkercad is a great baseline CAD program. This program is easy to implement and train people in.
  • After on a short period of time my students are able to create complex forms using Tinkercads pre-generated shapes and holes.
  • The Tinkercad provided projects aid in pushing the learning experience even further and reinforce the ideas that I train on and help my students explore the program before designing their own complex sculptural forms.
  • The Tinkercad provided projects were upgraded in some aspects but the text for the projects has not and can cause confusion.
  • Tinkedcad works best in Google Chrome on a windows machine but most of my students have Macs and even when using Chrome they run into issues that Windows users don’t
  • Tinkedcad is browser-based but, to have a program that would be tablet compatible would be invaluable. So far it has only really worked on a Surface Pro 3.
Tinkercad is such a great program and I would recommend the program to anyone who wants an introduction to a simple CAD program. I have another colleague that is now using it in her classroom due to my recommendation. I have had students start with me in Tinkercad and eventually work their way up in skill and purchase other Autodesk products because of the enjoyment and opportunity that Tinkercad provided.
