It's one of the best tools in email security, very easy to deploy, maintain, and manage. It is very effective in detecting malicious attachments, and spam mails. It can be deployed in large networks to scan spam mails and it has granular control such as we can block specific emails from outside of the network as well. It has the feature to control unwanted emails.
  • It is a solution that is very effective to protect against malware/phishing mails with accuracy and ease of use.
  • It has very good reporting features which helps in getting more customized report.
  • Extra ordinary email trace feature which gives end to end flow.
  • Good in blocking advanced threats.
  • It has a great response while blocking malicious/spam mails, but there have been some false positives too.
  • Whitelisting could be improved.
  • Costing could be improved.
It has a very good feature of URL replace, it helps us to block or prevent spam, phishing, or malicious emails. It has some limitations like if some large or lengthy emails come it takes more time to scan and to avoid delay it forwards the mail to the recipient with a warning note on it.

FireEye Email Security is the primary email gateway for the company. It is used for malware analysis as well as the enterprise-wide email quarantine system.
  • Very user-friendly and simple interface.
  • Policy rules are easy to create and they work.
  • Very little downtime or operational impact.
  • Email delivery issues are easy to investigate and troubleshoot.
  • Reporting
I would highly recommend FireEye Email Security to a colleague. The platform is good at eliminating malicious emails prior to delivery to the end-user. Detections exist across the URL, attachment, and embedded HTML levels. It is a strong platform.

  • FireEye ETP has been well received across the company, even up to the CIO level.
  • CSOC analysts are able to more efficiently run incidents involving phishing attacks, etc.
There are a few things FireEye Email Security does better than ProofPoint and vice versa. For example, you would think blocking .html attachments would be trivial. FireEye Email Security can be configured to do it. Proofpoint can not, and if you try to configure it, HTML gets stripped from the email content, which has a major impact on the business. On the other hand, ProofPoint has a number of additional features and bells and whistles that FireEye Email Security does not.

We use it as an email gateway for the company. All email addressed to our employee's email addresses are routed through the appliance. It attempts to filter out some malicious emails based on the links and attachments that are found. It is not our only email defense that we have in our stack.
  • It does a decent job of detecting malicious attachments in emails.
  • It is easy to release emails that are incorrectly quarantined.
  • The interface is not exactly intuitive.
  • There are a high number of false positives.
  • To my knowledge, there is not a way to whitelist links or attachments.
It works well as one component of an email security stack, as long as you do not mind dealing with false positives. It would not be suitable as the only component in an email security system. When upstream components of our stack have gone down, a high number of malicious mail got through our FireEye appliance.

  • It's been positive in the sense that it has blocked some malicious email that would have otherwise made it to our users.
  • It has been negative in the sense that we spend a higher-than-expected number of cycles dealing with false positives.
  • Another negative is that we also experience false negatives.
I was not involved in the evaluation of FireEye Email Security, as it was done before I was in my current role. So, I am not aware of which other tools were evaluated.
The reason that I gave the support a 5 is that I have had both positive and negative experiences. One of the positive experiences was when a senior support engineer spend quite a few hours with me solving an issue that we were having. One of the negative ones was when we were experiencing an issue and one person from support gave one solution, and when the issue reoccurred we were told by another person that what was recommended to us the first time was incorrect. The issue was never fully solved.
