Trend Micro ServerProtect is a Saas platform that has proven to be highly efficient in providing antivirus and malware protection for organizations' Windows servers. Users have reported feeling secure after scanning their servers with Trend Micro ServerProtect, especially when dealing with ransomware attacks. The software's comprehensive scan engine can efficiently scan a wide range of files, ensuring thorough protection against viruses. It also offers an incremental update mechanism, automatically pushing updates containing virus patterns for new files to the targeted servers. This feature has been highly praised by users as it ensures that their servers are always up to date with the latest protection.

One of the standout features of Trend Micro ServerProtect is its seamless operation in the background. The software updates itself when necessary, requiring no intervention from the users. This aspect provides peace of mind to users as they can trust that their servers are continuously protected without any disruptions or manual updating required. Additionally, Trend Micro ServerProtect offers a holistic view of security issues, allowing users to manage security through a single console and providing real-time awareness of their environment. This centralized management capability simplifies security operations and allows administrators to easily monitor and respond to any potential threats.

Furthermore, Trend Micro ServerProtect is particularly useful for older model systems, providing top-of-the-line protection for these servers. Users have praised its strong network antivirus solution, which helps avoid crypto ransomwares and other significant threats. The software addresses various protection needs based on the type of server it is protecting, making it suitable for different environments. Overall, Trend Micro ServerProtect offers all-around virus protection for managed servers, meeting the diverse needs of organizations and ensuring their critical systems remain secure.

Real-time scanning system with smart scan feature highly praised: Users have consistently expressed positive feedback about the real-time scanning system with the smart scan feature. Many reviewers have stated that it provides an added layer of security by automatically scanning for threats and suspicious websites, allowing them to browse the internet without fear.

Reliability and centralized deployment appreciated: Multiple users appreciate the reliability and centralized deployment of the software. They mention that it is cross-modified for easy integration into Enterprise environments, and policies can be centrally pushed without the need for specific servers. This makes it easy to administer and manage.

Admin-friendly software with easily accessible options: The user feedback highlights that the software is admin-friendly, with easily accessible options. This simplifies the administration process and allows users to find the required options quickly, enhancing their overall experience.

Cons:

  1. Limited functionality for non-administrators: Some users have expressed frustration over the limitations faced by non-administrators. They are unable to perform key actions such as quarantining files and accessing certain options, which hampers their ability to effectively manage security issues.
  2. Inflexible periodic scanning: Several reviewers have mentioned that they find the predefined periodic scanning inflexible. This means that users cannot customize the frequency or timing of scans based on their specific needs, limiting their control over system protection.
  3. Performance issues during deep scans: There have been reports of the software causing slowdowns when performing deep scans. This unexpected impact on machine performance can be particularly troublesome for an enterprise product, as it interrupts regular workflows and decreases overall productivity.

We currently use Trend Micro ServerProtect to provide AV/Malware Protection for our virtualized servers running on ESXi. These servers are utilized for all our applications and databases. Our clients use built in Microsoft Defender but we wanted something more robust for our servers. It addresses the varied protection needs based on the type of server it is protecting.
  • It has been very effective at protection. Nothing has gotten by it in three years.
  • It's pretty easy to install in agent based mode.
  • We originally bought this to run at the hypervisor level. It did not work well.
  • I had constant issues with the VMs required to run at hypervisor level.
I have found that most AV/Malware protection servers have quite a bit in common. I bought this specifically to reduce issues that can happen with agent based AV on virtual servers. The host based setup was very difficult and even once implemented it was difficult to keep it running well. Support was not great. They really expected a high level of competency in the advanced features. In the end, using it as a standard agent based install was much easier to install and manage. It's very effective and the performance hit from running all the agents and during the updates is really minimal.
  • Great protection. Has done a great job of reducing costs in time of dealing with outbreaks.
  • Management time is now very low.
I feel that Trend Micro's product has a much smaller foot print, especially compared to Symantec, and it has a more robust software protection than Microsoft. It seems to have more features and is well maintained as far as frequency of updates. Trend Micro ServerProtect gives me more flexibility in protection settings.
My experience with support has not been great. They really had lots of prerequisite work and information gathering requirements before really getting involved. I have no problem doing needed work but I just felt a support person could do things more quickly and spare me so much challenge that was unnecessary. The website has good access to updates and knowledge base information but it was a bit limited in scope.
