To host and run our online storefront www.ShopTJB.com . We used the Nexternal platform to create each landing page for our different products. The setup took many hours but once we got the hang of it, page creation became very easy. We have over 2200 different items on our storefront so there was a lot of creation.
  • Page layout.
  • Processing purchases.
  • Ease of creation.
Cons
  • We have made suggestions over the years and they have been implemented.
  • Right now, the system offers more options than we need to run our storefront.
  • Very happy with the system and how versatile it is for many different industries.
When it started out is seemed to be geared towards storefronts selling wines but we felt it was a great fit for our simple storefront. It has evolved into a powerful eCommerce platform that can be tailored to many different industries. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to run a storefront online.
  • Easy to learn.
  • No upfront costs.
  • Great customer support.
When we started with Nexternal, there were not as many options as there are today. We felt the platform was one that we could work with and had a great customer support contact that helped us during the creation of our site.
2
1. Creation and maintenance of the product pages. 2. Day to Day operations of processing and shipping orders.
1
Very basic computer skills.
  • Display our products.
  • Process sales of products.
  • Follow up after sales.
Very happy with the platform.

We have worked with Nexternal Solutions for over a decade, integrating their eCommerce platform into our clients' websites. Nexternal is ideal for both clients looking to get started in eCommerce, as well as those who are moving away from another eCommerce platform that no longer meets their needs. Nexternal provides a reliable, comprehensive platform with a robust tool set for achieving our clients' online goals.
  • Nexternal's customer service is the best in the business. Each account comes with a dedicated account rep who answers the phone when you call, and personally replies to your emails within a very reasonable time - sometimes within minutes!
  • Nexternal is consistently improving their platform with added tools and 3rd party integrations for everything from social sharing and email campaign management to search optimization tools and automatic product feed integrations such as Amazon.
  • Nexternal offers site security and PCI compliance out of the box. There is no need for an additional SSL, nor do you need to worry about the security of your clients' personal information.
  • Nexternal is scalable and grows with your business. We have more than a handful of clients who have been with Nexternal for more than 10 years. In web-speak, that's like 50 years!
  • The Nexternal shopping cart template can be customized to create a consistently branded experience from your home page throughout the entire shopping process.
  • Nexternal offers a host of API and XML toolsets that allow clients to sync data between their ecommerce platform and most any other third party platform, thereby coordinating the operations of your business and cutting down on management time.
Cons
  • Nexternal is hosted solution which means much of the source code is protected and inaccessible. For clients looking to fully customize the user experience, there are some limitations, with any hosted solution, that must be considered.
  • Nexternal doesn't have a built in wish list feature. They did partner with a 3rd party vendor, and now offer the base functionality; however, for clients whose needs center on the capabilities of a wish list, this feature must be closely considered.
  • Nexternal's monthly fees are structured in such a way that they scale based on sales. This can be an affordable set up for a majority, but a deterrent for others. That said, the phrase 'you get what you pay for' rings true for ecommerce platforms as well. As I've mentioned perhaps too many times already, the level of reliable support combined with the user-friendly, secure platform are worth it.
Nexternal's customer service is the best in the business, and this support is especially important for a new online business. Their support can help alleviate the stresses common to starting an online business and learning the ropes of an admin platform. Nexternal isn't designed for any specific industry. Though they specialize in wine ecommerce sites, our Nexternal clients offer everything from army/navy gear and vegan products to supplements and mouth guards.

In most every scenario, if Nexternal doesn't offer the capability, they can determine an effective work-around.
  • Because we are a development team who focuses on integrating Nexternal with our clients' sites, we can't speak to specific ROI or conversions, however, the length of time our clients stick with Nexternal says it all - in an industry where there are no shortage of choices in platforms, we have rarely ever moved a client from Nexternal to another platform. Instead, the vast majority of our clients who use Nexternal now either started off with the platform or moved to Nexternal from a less-than platform. We have clients who have been with Nexternal for over a decade, and that's really saying something.
  • In the 10+ years that we have worked with Nexternal we have developed a solid relationship that is built solely on trust. We don't get any commission for referring customers to their site, nor do they receive any commission for sending customers our way. We work together because we enjoy it and we know that the other is dependable and worthwhile.
  • Volusion,Magento,Shopify,WordPress,Joomla!,Bigcommerce,CS Cart,Nexternal
The majority of comparable ecommerce platforms offer similar services and tools such as unlimited products, comprehensive product display, search optimization, email campaign management, integrated shipping, taxes, B2B, multiple-storefronts, site security, social sharing/integrations, product feeds, reporting, 3rd party integrations or plugins, content management capabilities, and more. But NO other ecommerce platform offers the level of customer service that Nexternal does. Placing a call to your dedicated account rep, and having them answer the phone, and then *gasp* answer your question is just the best!
Nexternal has been a major player in the eCommerce industry for well over a decade. Their longevity is owed to their rock-solid platform and stellar support staff. They will continue to grow their platform, providing their customers with the tools necessary for a successful online business in this ever-changing enviroment.
Yes
Volusion - we've spoken with and/or worked with several clients over the years who were looking for alternatives to Volusion. Volusion appears to be a adequate starter platform, however, when our clients' business needs increased or as their business goals evolved, they found that they needed a more comprehensive platform that offered the tools necessary for growth.

In general, the majority of the customers who seek us out through our relationship with Nexternal are looking for their 2.0 platform. They've gained a bit of experience in ecommerce with a different platform, and they now have a better picture of their online needs. Nexternal addresses those needs with a robust platform that offers wide array of tools and features for growing your brand.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Prior Experience with the Product
  • Vendor Reputation
  • Existing Relationship with the Vendor
  • Positive Sales Experience with the Vendor
Positive Experience with the Vendor - No other ecommerce platform offers the level of customer service that Nexternal offers. We've worked with dozens of ecommerce platforms since 2003, and since day one, Nexternal's customer service has been responsive, knowledgable and friendly.
We select ecommerce platforms for our customers based on their specific business needs. Nexternal is a great product, and we're always confident when we recommend it. That said, if we find, by evaluating our client's needs, that Nexternal isn't the best solution for them, we don't recommend it. With over 10 years experience in ecommerce, we understand how the selected ecommerce platform can boost or hinder our client's success. We carefully deliberate our client's needs before recommending the ecommerce platform we feel will best help them grow their brand.
We've worked with ecommerce providers for over 12 years, and we have yet to find another solution that provides the same level of responsiveness and accessibility as Nexternal's account representatives.
  • Managing Products/Categories
  • Managing Customer Accounts
  • Managing Orders
  • Bulk Importing extraneous product data has a bit of a learning curve
  • Integrating 3rd party apps that don't have an existing partnership with Nexternal
Yes
Nexternal offers a clean and simple mobile version of your storefront - allowing customers to focus on the most important parts of your online business - your products and checkout!
Nexternal has been around for over a decade - they may have defined the ecommerce admin panel. That said, they could stand to update it a bit - adding more drag and drop functionality and integrating a more comprehensive CMS allowing your home page to be part of your ecommerce website.

The force is strong with Nexternal.

We use Nexternal's eCommerce platform solely for our web store. It syncs seamlessly with many tools that we use at Foxen making marketing, sales, customer satisfaction, analytics, compliance, and customer security a breeze.
  • I have complete control over the store, right down to the most minute detail. I can control shipping methods, discounts, coupons, customer security, compliance, and the list goes on. If you can think of it, Nexternal has already come up with a solution.
  • It's a very secure platform for our customers. In this day and age, uploading personal information on the web can be a bit nerve wracking, but our customers are protected by Nexternal's system. It allows our customer to update their personal account without having to share sensitive information over the phone or email.
  • It syncs perfectly with our marketing, social media, and sales tools. We use Mail Chimp, VinoVisit, VinNow, UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and ShipCompliant. Nexternal communicates perfectly with all of them, making my life so much easier. Information has to be input once and it syncs everywhere. This saves me time and reduces error.
Cons
  • Honestly, I can't think of one! The only thing Nexternal doesn't sync up with that we use is GSO, but that is a small west coast shipping service, so I wouldn't expect them to integrate with them.
If you want to sell online and need a platform, you should select Nexternal. If it is within your budget and you want to have success, Nexternal is the way to go. Since switching to Nexternal from Kreck, our online sales have more than tripled!
  • We have very little cart abandonment because Nexternal shows customer's shipping prices immediately, and we can be competitive with our shipping prices due to Nexternal allowing us to show Real Time Rates from UPS and FedEx.
  • Our sales have almost quadrupled since we started using Nexternal. It's easy to use, clean, concise, professional looking, detailed, and allows all the modern amenities that online shoppers look for these days like social sharing and a cart that is visible the whole time the customer is shopping.
  • Kreck
Everywhere Kreck fell short or failed, Nexternal succeeded. I love all the tools at my disposal and I know my support system at Nexternal is always available and they bend over backwards to make sure I have my questions answered.
I'm so happy with Nexternal I don't see myself using any other platform. We currently only use Nexternal for our web store, but we are looking to expand into the tasting rooms and offer mobile points of sale.
3
I am the primary user, but if I am unavailable to assist customers with their needs, I have two team members who are available to help out when needed.

I am connected to Nexternal at the hip. My entire day is spent working with the program. I have our Tasting Room Manager and our Wine Club Ambassador available and trained to help out customers with order questions or needs if I am not available.
  • Web Store
  • Amazon Store
  • Social Media Sharing
  • Marketing and eCommerce Analytics
  • eCommerce tracking and analytics through Mail Chimp. I can target customers based on their past orders so I don't spam them with products they aren't interested in.
  • We are looking to expand and have Nexternal as our primary point of sale not only online, but in the tasting rooms as well because they can offer a mobile POS.
  • Implemented in-house

Change management was minimal
  • None. Just a learning curve.
I had help from start to finish. Doreen, my rep, was very patient, concise, clear, and she has always had the answers I need. Setting up your store is time consuming at first, but with the support system that Nexternal offers, it is painless.
Doreen and Lanette are my lovely ladies. They are always available and do whatever they can to make sure I am taken care of. They have always been there for me and I know they will always be there for me.
No
Honestly, every time I have a question I receive phenomenal and quick support. No matter how simple or complicated my needs or questions are, my Nexternal support team takes care of me. From the start of setting up the store, to day to day questions, I have the full support of Nexternal.
  • Starting out it can be intimidating, but once you see the layout and how the program works, it's a breeze. I know the system like the back of my hand.
  • Setting up new products is SO easy, they have an excel document that you can upload with multiple products on the spreadsheet. After uploading all your new products are in the store and only need minor adjustments before having them go live.
  • If you have a lot of shipping restrictions, like we do in the wine industry, there are a lot of designations you will have to make, but once you get used to it, it's not bad at all and you will grow to appreciate how much control you have over the system.
Yes
Beautifully! I'd say 1/3 of our sales are from mobile users.
I love the control and attention to detail that this system has. Don't be intimidated by it. Keep playing with it, ask questions, and get to know the program. You will grow to absolutely love and understand it.

Nexternal - A cabaple software that needs a refresh.

We used to use Nexternal as our order system at a small winery. We would enter all purchase orders into Nexternal, which would then link to QuickBooks. We use it for all reporting as well.
  • The reporting is very clear and organized. You are able to report by outlet such as OMS, POS and online orders.
Cons
  • Nexternal needs a POS system that enables you to swipe credit cards. We switched to a different system because this was a limitation of Nexternal. At the point of purchase we used to have to write everything down and enter in later.
  • The shipping functionality is extremely basic. The shipping address check for each state never worked properly. Also, with our new system, the woman who does the compliance can pull all reports per state out of it. Nexternal does not have that capability.
It is well suited if you do not have a point of sale scenario. It is great for companies that take any sorts of orders over the phone or web.
  • Decreased efficiency in terms of how long it takes to enter order.
  • Very quick with reporting which was great for meetings and customer service calls.
  • Inefficient in terms of shipping abilities.
  • Submerse
Nexternal is a much more basic system in terms of an OMS system but it has much more limitations compared to Submerse. Submerse however is a newer products with a ton of glitches and terrible reporting methods. If Nexternal created a POS system and revamped their shipping capabilities, I would choose Nexternal.
I no longer work in a company that would utilize it.
