For my company, we were looking for a business intelligence product for a new division/separate business. Research and recommendations were made by approximately 3 people- all from the development and data science department, and a few others received their input and ultimately made the decision. We researched Tableau and BusinessObjects on TrustRadius and ultimately decided on Shiny.
The decision was made ultimately due to cost. The division of the company is a small startup, and at this point, the user base would be small. We felt that the need for a product that would be more user-based would not be a requirement, as we have the developer availability to generate the output. There was concern that the user-based cost would be declined in budgeting at this time. The division has set precedents for open source products.
  • To compare products
Yes, the information available was incredibly comprehensive and provided factors to consider that I did not even think of. I liked the "compare by product" and "compare by feature." TrustRadius also listed vendors that I was not aware of. Also, while I will not use it for this current product buying effort, the PPT to present the process, the short list, etc, will be extremely valued in my role to present findings to the leadership team.
I like reviews that appear to be candid and written in a clear manner. I also like reviews that are not extremely narrowly focused on a person's specific business or industry. Valuable to me are reviews that include how successful the implementation went and how the business accepted the decision, as well as any hurdles they encountered. Also good to hear if they would make the same decision again.
I think reviews are very important to improve your case when recommending a product. Especially if the review very much matches your particular business need for the product. Also, based on the ratings, I am able to rule out or include a shorter list of products to consider. I have always found it very difficult to find unbiased information on software products, so I find this very valuable and streamlines the process.
  • Format is easy to follow
  • Reviews are thorough and provide a good amount of detail (so good that TrustRadius encourages 'wordiness')
  • Includes a wide variety of vendors
  • Includes wide variety of features to rate
  • Perhaps an executive summary of the particular topic, including info on what features appear important to the reviewers and which vendors were high and low in those ratings
I think TrustRadius for Buyers is very comprehensive and will be a time-saver, as opposed to trying to gather this information in other methods. I think TrustRadius needs some more marketing or publicity because it seems like very few people I speak with have heard the name.
We did research based on vendor literature and contacts with users in other companies that we had connections to. Our technical team was responsible for looking into the features available and then recommending what they felt most met the needs.
Comprehensive and easy to use. The list of features compared was very detailed, as was the number of vendors listed. The only challenge we faced after coming up with our feature list was how to determine the pricing. Ultimately, that ruled out most of our considerations.
