The primary skill would be an experience in the management of vSphere. If there are other hypervisors in the environment, a working knowledge of those systems should also be known. Since this product also reaches into storage, a working knowledge of the storage product and configuration is also helpful. This enables a better understanding of the information coming out of Turbonomic. There is also the need to do some customer configuration on the environment such as storage IOPS in order to ensure the information being reported is accurate.

The skills required to maintain Turbonomic is quite minimal overall. If you are able to read and have a general level of IT knowledge, you can certainly support and maintain this software product. The occasional upgrade and learning new features is very feasible for most entry level technicians. We have 3 administrators of Turbonomic who assist is setting up reports, maintain software updates, and address any issues that may come up for the users.

The same second line technicians support VMTurbo. If they have any issues, we back them off to the excellent VMTurbo support. We have had no issues in the way we have been supported. In fact, the support has been proactive!

You need a VCP that knows more than just you have x number of VMWare hosts and they are clustered. You need someone who knows your network topology as it is laid out for DMZ, local lan, Business continuity / Disaster Recovery, and branch office. You need someone who understands the storage connectivity to your VM hosts as well.
