What is Twingate?

Twingate allows businesses to secure remote access to their private applications, data, and environments, whether they are on-premise or in the cloud. Built to make the lives of DevOps teams, IT teams, and end users easier, it replaces outdated corporate VPNs which were not built to handle a world in which "work from anywhere" and cloud-based assets are increasingly the norm.

Twingate’s modern zero trust-based approach to securing remote access focuses on improving security, usability, and maintainability. Distinguishing benefits and features of Twingate include:

  • Software-only solution deploys in minutes without requiring changes to existing infrastructure.
  • Enables least privilege access at the application level, not the broader network level.
  • Centralized management and logging provides control and visibility over the entire enterprise network.
  • Scale up to support more users and resources without worrying about network segmentation or buying new hardware.
  • User connectivity is improved due to split tunneling, no backhauling, and an intelligent client agent that handles authorization and routing activities.
  • Client agents are always on and do not require user interaction.

Twingate Features

  • Supported: Set up and manage resource-level access policies across the enterprise
  • Supported: Centralized administrative console
  • Supported: Logging and analytics platform
  • Supported: Client app supports Android iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows

Twingate has proven to be a versatile solution for various use cases based on the experiences of its users. With its secure access capabilities, the software has been widely used by both remote and in-house employees, as well as contractors. By eliminating the need for multiple remote access methods and simplifying identity and connection management, Twingate has saved users significant time and effort.

Additionally, Twingate has addressed common issues such as downtime and outages, improving reliability and speed over time. Engineers have found value in using Twingate to securely access private resources in cloud infrastructure. The software also provides control over who can access internal systems and better resource definition through internal or external VPN access. This level of control allows seamless access to multiple isolated cloud resources simultaneously, streamlining management and onboarding processes.

Moreover, Twingate offers secure connections to internal services and databases, making it easier to manage VPN services and users. It has effectively solved problems related to managing VPNs, scaling issues, provisioning timelines, and limited access to specific production resources. These benefits extend beyond traditional office settings — remote sales teams have successfully utilized Twingate to connect to company servers from anywhere in the world. In summary, Twingate has proved invaluable for organizations implementing zero trust networking and modern identity and access management programs. From securing corporate resources to facilitating remote work, Twingate's user-friendly interface and seamless integration with other platforms have made it a recommended solution for various industries.

Easy Setup and Login: Many users have found Twingate to be easy to set up and log in via MFA code. They appreciated the straightforward process, which allowed them to quickly get started with the platform.

Helpful Support: Users have praised Twingate for its cooperative and helpful support team. They were impressed with the level of assistance provided by the support staff, who were responsive and effective in addressing their queries.

Seamless Access from Anywhere: Twingate has been highly regarded by users for its seamless experience when accessing apps and services from anywhere. They found it convenient to connect to company resources without being limited by corporate web filters, allowing for increased productivity.

Connectors require frequent manual updates: Some users have mentioned that they find it a little annoying to manually update the connectors and upgrade them frequently. This can be time-consuming and inconvenient for ongoing maintenance.

Lack of certain features: While acknowledging the team's responsiveness, some users feel that there are still improvements needed in terms of audit logs, granular access control, and inspection capabilities. These missing features may limit their ability to effectively manage security and monitor user activities.

Limited flexibility for fluid users: Users have reported that the software does not work well with users who move in and out of the office. This lack of flexibility is frustrating as it restricts their ability to seamlessly access resources when transitioning between on-site and remote locations.

Users have made several recommendations for Twingate based on their experiences with the product. Firstly, many users suggest taking advantage of Twingate's free tier to evaluate its performance and features. This allows potential customers to get a firsthand experience of the product before committing to a paid plan. Secondly, users who have migrated from a Cisco VPN model to Twingate found the process to be easy. This indicates that Twingate offers a smooth transition for companies already using Cisco VPN and makes it easier for them to adopt Twingate as their remote access solution. Lastly, several reviewers recommend Twingate for companies that have embraced remote work. The flexibility and security provided by Twingate's solution make it particularly suitable for organizations that have transitioned to or are targeting a remote workforce. Overall, users highly recommend exploring Twingate as a solution that goes beyond traditional VPNs, provides seamless MFA integration (especially for Okta shops), and offers enterprise pricing options for customization. Additionally, users appreciate that Twingate charges per user rather than per client or resource.

Twingate checked all of our boxes for a remote access solution, and we recommend it. We replaced our legacy corporate VPN solution for the entire organization of 300 people in 3 continents with Twingate.

We were looking for a solution that was easy to implement, could scale well with network traffic, and improve our security posture. We were sensitive to the last point as a security company ourselves. VPNs have a publicly facing attack surface that the Twingate architecture eliminates. We use Twingate for private access to an on-prem network as well as cloud VPCs in AWS.
  • Eliminates public attack surfaces
  • Granular least-privilege access
  • Fast & Reliable - our international teams have a much faster connection between their machines and our network resources, esp. on the ones on the cloud
  • Easy to deploy & manage - we were able to convert the entire organization to use Twingate in 24hrs
  • The solution doesn't have access control to servers at the port level (yet)
The product as well as the admin panel is getting richer. Would love port-level access control as well as some more analytics in the admin panel. From what I hear, the team is actively working on it.
  • Directly, we were able to save costs ($70k annually) vs our VPN solution.
  • Indirectly, much better bandwidth between remote workstations and corporate/cloud resources are much faster; improved security posture - we haven't calculated the ROI yet.
The team has been extremely responsive with ideas on features additions. They were able to handhold us on the setup (which turned out to be easy). The product fundamentally works! We haven't had to use much of their support.
For the end-user, it is essentially an on-off switch integrated with our Identify Protection Solution.

Access management for our AWS resources is now much easier via Twingate's web admin dashboard. Before that, my teams were constantly wrestling with getting our users on VPN or maintaining everyone's home IP addresses in an allow list. Glad to be using the latest and greatest for our WFH teams!
  • Easy access management for cloud resources, better security than VPN or IP allow lists
  • 2FA via Google Login or OKTA
  • Easy to onboard external team members (contractors, partners, clients, etc)
  • Was easily approved by my partner security teams to use alongside their VPN client with no conflicts.
  • Zero-trust security is a must-have feature these days!
  • You pay for User, not Client or Resources--easy to roll out to all devices used by your users.
  • No more hassle of maintaining IP allow lists for WFH/remote teams
  • The Linux client was only recently released, so it took a while for my entire engineering team to get on-boarded. Twingate's customer support has been great, and they expedited Linux support based on our feedback.
Twingate is well suited for access management for cloud-based resources.
  • Better security
  • No more hassle of maintaining IP allow lists for WFH/remote teams
  • Easy Access Management
  • Was easily approved by my partner security teams to use alongside their VPN client with no conflicts.
Support team understood my challenge and was able to influence product direction to expedite support for my features - A+!

Twingate is a great product for teams working remotely. We replaced our internal IP whitelisting and VPN processes with Twingate across the org. Our teams are able to access AWS cloud resources, staging environments in CloudFront, and internal analytics dashboards in Tableau (self-hosted) via Twingate on iOS, Mac, Windows, Linux and Android devices. Was super easy to install, and they have great customer support. So glad to be done with the IP access/deny lists!!
  • Super convenient to install and use
  • Excellent customer support
  • Easy access management, and top-notch security
  • Windows installation had a small glitch, customer support helped quickly resolve the issue
Twingate is great if you're securing access to any self-hosted or cloud-hosted resources and have remote teams that need authenticated access. One thing that's pretty neat is now we have two-factor authentication across all our resources and 'identity' based logins (vs IP-based or shared logins).
  • The ROI has been immediate especially since we are all working remotely during the COVID-19 situation.
Excellent customer support - this is something we always look for in new vendors. They are knowledgeable, technical folks who care about their product and are quick to jump in and help support.
