It is being used across the entire organization for HR and payroll. We've also started using it for hiring and talent tracking. All new hires and employees are in the system whether just for their personal timekeeping, HR and payroll or as a manager over one of more of those areas, and hiring managers are in there approving new hires and starting that process as well.
  • Flow between HR onboarding and payroll.
  • Ease of use and access by employees for their own information.
  • Keeps payroll processing up to date for changing laws.
  • Timekeeping while detailed can be clunky and approval processes are somewhat limited.
  • Support is very hit and miss where sometimes you get an answer and a knowledgeable person and sometimes not.
  • Actually submitting ACA reporting to the IRS like other payroll providers do instead of requiring clients to upload it themselves directly.
This product was marketed to us as a school and several schools in our area use the program. However, the implementation team we were set-up with had limited school experience and we are still working on the best way to do some of the timekeeping issues where I know that could have been handled better. That being said from a payroll and reporting side it has been great to capture so much data (at times almost too much) and have the system do automatic allocations of salaries and general ledger reports. The reporting takes some getting used to, but overall I've been able to run reports to see and track just about anything I want. Our employees also love the self service compared to our previous products where they can make W4, direct deposit and other updates on their own without having to get HR involved.
  • One product with one login (not separate for HR, timekeeping and payroll nor manager and employee log-ins).
  • Ease of use for our employees to access and update their own information - eliminating paper.
  • Allocation of payroll expenses among multiple categories automatically within the system.
  • Freed up HR and Payroll with less manual work.
  • Better reporting overall.
  • Some loss on control over approvals and timesheets where the system is somewhat limited in approvals with multiple managers - still working to resolve this.
We looked this product first and actually started the conversion process before we realized it could not do some essential functions we needed. One of the simple ones was allowing for employees to select to clock in or out and not just assume the direction based on their schedule or last punch. With bus drivers working multiple routes or shifts this was imperative that they be able to select this as while they may forget one punch being able to select the direction helps identify where the missing punches are. I'm hoping this has since been corrected because it absolutely floored me that such a relatively simple thing was not an option.
Because it is hit or miss. Occasionally I'll have an issue that my implementation team couldn't resolve that support resolves very quickly and then I'll have some support cases that stay open for days with minimal communication and get assigned to people that have to keep looking and looking and eventually transfer the case to get an answer.
We did not. I actually have not heard of premium support to know that was even an option. Based on the cost we may or may not have gone with it. Especially for the first year while still working out the kinks it would have been great to know there even was such a thing.
Yes
Issues like bugs where the system starts working improperly have generally been handled pretty quickly and the message boards allow you to know they have been reported so you don't always have to report (though the message board notifications can get overwhelming at times). I am surprised my the number of small issues that crop up where there is system latency and servers or things in the background need to be rebooted or something.
Other than support being able to answer questions that my implementation team couldn't on more than one occasion there has not been any exceptional support. To me that is more a reflection on the inadequacy of the implementation team rather than a highlight on support. Now I've definitely seen worse support with other products, but I've also seen better.

Kronos Workforce Central is used by each one of the properties that we manage. We are in the hospitality industry, and our hotels use this software every day to record, approve, and report time. Kronos is a trusted provider of timekeeping software and solutions that has only gotten stronger with time. What I like about the suite is that it comes in desktop and mobile versions. The desktop is all-intuitive giving each user the ability to navigate across workspaces, or tab groups that allow them to access different segments of the software. For instance, the My Information tab is the one-stop dashboard that all employees can access to view their swipe entries, requesting time off, and view their pending request. At the management level, other tabs for Payroll and Timeclock Setup can be accessed, and each tab gives the user a good set of tools to aid in decision making.
  • Easy to use and navigate
  • Web-based, can be accessed anywhere, anytime
  • Quick Links makes it easy to find frequently-used options
  • Extensive range of setup tools to customize user experience
  • Training required to use the product effectively, not simple at first
  • Dependent on Java, frequent updates to Java necessary to continue using the Kronos platform
  • Reporting tools are extensive and solid, though some reports can only be extracted in PDF, not in the more usable Excel format. How Kronos determines which can be extracted in Excel vs. PDF, I can't tell.
Kronos is great for recording time and for reporting, when used effectively. What I like about Kronos is that their Customer Support team is always very knowledgeable and helpful in a bind. Which means that when I don't necessarily know where to access a particular set of tools, I can call a Solutions rep and they know exactly where to point me to achieve the results that I need. Like most software, it is not recommended for very basic users; users should be comfortable accessing a computer or smart phone to use the suite. Kronos is well suited for those businesses have hourly employees that are required to swipe in and out to record their time. Swiping in can be done at a physical kiosk/timeclock, or from a computer. If a location is equipped with a physical kiosk/timeclock, a good support technician that knows how to resolve random errors should be present to assist when needed.

  • Shift scheduling gives our properties the ability to enforce company attendance policies
  • Information readily available for analysis through its reporting feature
  • Effective data collection allows our managers to target possible problems with business costs or labor issues
Other than Kronos, I've only used Oracle PeopleSoft HCM for time and attendance. In comparing the two, I find that Kronos is far more high-end and busy and complicated, whereas PeopleSoft is simpler and to the point. With Kronos, there is some refining to do to it to get the time tracking tools to appear simpler, but once you customize it to your needs, it works real well. Again, the key to ensuring that the suite works well for you is to spend time with your Kronos representative who will scale the software to work as you intend it to.

My company decided to use Kronos Workforce Central after reviewing its features and researching the product and hearing from other users that used Kronos. It came down to Kronos' reputation and customer support team.
Having no experience with Kronos prior to using it in March 2016, their customer service team taught me how to use it the right way after my initial training at work. I am well-versed in data analysis using Excel and Access primarily, so once I discovered that Kronos had a reporting feature built in, I've used the feature quite a few times to help our properties evaluate their production costs and make good labor decisions. I give Kronos a 10 because once a person takes the time to learn how to use the software, they'll realize that Kronos is far more effective than most, and gives users more ways to access their information where and when they want to.
