Unitrends Saves the Day!!
Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] licensing is MUCH better than Veritas Backup Exec was, our previous backup solution. It is a cleaner install, much easier to keep current and is more logically deployed and managed. Unitrends is very much like a point and click environment, where you select the server you want, select if you want to backup the entire server or a drive, or even as simple as a file. Once you have that configured it just works! As you added servers in a Veritas environment it was much more difficult. It was truly a relief for us when we moved to Unitrends. Much less heartache.

Unitrends UB software lets you sleep at night
- Code42 (formerly CrashPlan), Veritas Backup Exec and Veeam Backup & Replication
Unitrends UB software makes management of backup sets very simple, Backup Exec was incredibly difficult to manage. It was reliable, but recovery was a daunting process, it always worked, but never seemed certain.
CrashPlan is an excellent alternative for a smaller footprint, it is really simple to use and low impact on performance.
Veeam is a very good product I used at a previous location, I can say this would be comparable to Unitrends UB.

Veeam is a very good product I used at a previous location, I can say this would be comparable to Unitrends UB.
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery provide more features than Synology DiskStation. Unlike the Synology DiskStation it has instant recovery features and can backup databases, Microsoft SQL, etc. Both are capable of deduplication and compression and can backup VMWare virtual machines. Veritas Backup Exec does not have deduplication and compression features when backing up data to the cloud. Unitrends is also better on licensing. Unlike Backup Exec, it's a capacity base licensing and not per seat.

Unitrends' backup solution saves me 1-2 hours per day.
- Veeam ONE, Quest Rapid Recovery (formerly AppAssure) and Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM)
While all of the products I evaluate could do the job and I have experience with them all, Unitrends' solution is just easier and more affordable. All solutions have negatives, but Unitrends' are so easy to live with that I had no reason to make a change. I'd also put their support up against anyone. You can almost always get someone if you need them, but I almost never need help.

Unitrends - a no brainer for backup and recovery!
We compared Unitrends to Barracuda and selected Unitrends based [on] total cost over a three-year period. The Barracuda product was more than double the cost over the same three-year period. Additionally, both appliances offer similar feature sets and support, but the Unitrends appliance seemed to be a bit more robust in terms of options and features.

Hassle-Free Backup and Recovery System for Everyone

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery's artificial intelligence plays a major role in all
the appliances that run a scanning procedure during each and every backup to analyze
the change logs of the files and identify if the backups are infected by
ransomware. Once the threat is detected, alerts will be sent to administrators immediately and all suspicious backups will be flagged with prominent icons to prevent any
attempted data recoveries using those infected files. If we take Veeam Backup & Replication, for example, it requires multiple Windows virtual machines to deploy their final product. However, Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery appliances allow users to do the configuration
simply by connecting the appliance to the network and using its user interface to point to the devices, you need to protect.

Satisfactory Results From Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
We previously used Veritas Backup Exec for our backup solutions. It uses USB 2.0 for a backup solution, which was very slow and unreliable to use as compared to Unitrends Data Backup and Recovery. Doing the backup over the network delivers a speedy backup, which is not possible with Veritas Backup Exec.

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery for VMware Backups - The Right Tool for the Right Job.

I know many, many people use Veeam. And for years, there were free versions and such. For some reason, Veeam and I didn't get along well. I didn't like all the extra parts and pieces to make it work. Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] is one simple appliance. As I've said, I was able to reuse some old storage. It does what I need to do and all I need it to do. That's why I use it and continue to use it.

A Great Backup Solution
- Veeam Backup & Replication
We recently replaced Veeam Backup and Replication with Unitrends. The change was not too cumbersome, and I feel that we are to the point now where we are getting proper backups. They both seem to do the same thing from what I can tell. They both handle backup of bare metal servers and virtual machines.

In the Beginning, Unitrends MSP was There!
Four years ago, Unitrends MSP was reasonable and met our needs, so we signed a 5-year contract. In my opinion, there are cheaper and just as good companies now. In hindsight, I believe we probably should have signed a shorter contract. It met a need that we had and were satisfied when we first began using Unitrends MSP.

Reliable, powerful, and expensive
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is a better backup solution than Synology DS, but much more expensive. We utilize both in our company. Synology DS has a great backup software called Active Backup for Business that is very easy to use and includes deduplication. The cost per TB is much much less than Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery.

We have not used or tested any other products. Unitrends was already in place when I was hired. We are happy with what we have in place and do not see us making any changes other than upgrading or replacing equipment that is at end of life.

Unitrends in the Workplace
They are similar, Datto is a great fit for smaller businesses I feel, they have a great space in multiple sites and have custom builds for larger business. However I feel some higher end enterprise level setups require larger devices. Education is a great spot oval for Unitrends over Datto in some cases, because of the data size.
We have a couple more years on our contract. Since we have purchased this, there are many more choices out there. Within the next year we will do research again to determine what will best suit our needs.

Symantec Backup Exec was the primary tool used for backups for years. We also used Veeam for some Office 365/Exchange backups. Unitrends once configured and set up works very well against the competition. Backup Exec interface was more user friendly. The search tool for exploring backups was much better than Unitrends as well. Unitrends is much faster if you need to restore an entire VM or large file folders. Also once you have Unitrends all set up, it is very low maintenance, it just works. If something fails 9/10 it will correct itself on the next backup that is scheduled to run.

Unitrends Make Life Better
We previously used Backup Exec as our backup solution. It relied on USB 2.0 connections to backup data to removable proprietary hard drives that were used in a Dell removable drive system. It was very slow and unreliable compared to Unitrends. Doing the backups over the network delivers a speedy backup that we had not had with Backup Exec. The version of Backup Exec we were using was an admittedly old version circa 2012 or so, so it wasn't a modern solution. Not having to use the removable drives also greatly improved our backup solution reliability. The drives could fill up and if we didn't get the drives swapped out in time, it would cause problems.
- Veeam Backup & Replication and Dell EMC Networker
Veeam seems like a decent product which may cost a little more, Dell EMC Networker is a good product, but the interface is very clunky and difficult to navigate, while also being a much more expensive solution. I believe they are all good products. Based on reviews, functionality and cost, we went with Unitrends and it hasn't failed us.

Unitrends, it has really improved
- Veeam Backup & Replication
From looking at the demo a few years back Veeam had some nice AD integrations that Unitrends lacks. However, for us the difference in pricing was too much to justify going with Veeam over Unitrends. Our main consultant does not have engineers that are familiar with Unitrends, they are all very familiar with Veeam. We did find a local Unitrends partner that has good engineers if we run into an issue we cannot solve on our own. That was a big factor for us sticking with Unitrends. The newer interface on Unitrends made our lives a lot easier and really saved it.
Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] has a much better UI. It's easy to navigate. Barracuda was a little pricey, and if you were to reduce your backup size under the current tier, you had to call in to get them to adjust the space requirements on the bill. They were content charging you for 800GB when you were only using 550, just because you had been using 750 before. Support with Barracuda was not as good as Unitrends. When I required a restore of my server with Barracuda, it took a week to complete. Even then, data was missing and inaccessible.
