Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why.
We use Vertex O series to simplify our Indirect Tax Filing responsibilities. We file in nearly every state and various other jurisdictions. It is not feasible to track all of this data manually and Vertex allows one person to complete all filings in about 7 days.
- Vertex tracks all updates very well. It is comforting to not have to worry about looking up tax changes state by state.
- Vertex pulls all of our sales data and allows me to download it in one dump which allows all of our data to be centralized.
- The support offered by Vertex is also top notch. It's always been fairly easy to call in if we have questions or need help.
- We had a problem one month and needed to back out some data and it didn't seem like Vertex was well-equipped to do this. Ultimately I had to figure out a work-around as Vertex wasn't helpful in this instance.
- It feels like I'm not using the majority of tools available to me. Of course that's on me to learn more about the product, but I feel like training could be pushed a bit more.

Vertex O Series is being used for both address cleansing and correct sales/use tax rates charged to our customers. It has helped us gain correct location information for our transactions which has increased our accuracy in both sales tax assessment and property tax reporting.
- Customization to our business
- Accurate local tax information
- Accurate tax treatment of different transaction types
- Some rules do not work correctly to properly assess tax
- The UI has some deficiencies such as the calendar to choose the date is not very user-friendly
Vertex O Series is used as the tax calculation engine for all business units in the US except for food and agriculture in our Dean Moines office.
- Robust calculation engine for leasing.
- Easy user interface for configurations.
- Ability to build user-defined rules and tax assist rules.
- Make it easier to write tax assist rules, maybe add some examples directly within the screens or on the fields being selected.

We are currently using Vertex O Series across our US organization in both our sales and purchasing modules of SAP. Vertex O Series has allowed us to more thoroughly and accurately report use tax and manage our customer exemption certificates throughout the US business.
- Vertex O Series makes it easier to verify if purchases are taxable or exempt. This allows our AP team to have more confidence in the accuracy of the invoices that are being presented by our vendors.
- The Exemption Certificate Management system is a much better way to track our customer's exemption certificates and their expiration. We are able to accurately pull reports that give us a list of customers we need to get updated certificates for months before they expire.
- The ability to access our Vertex O Series anywhere and anytime with our URL has allowed us to access any information needed while we are out of the office or at conferences. This allows greater flexibility for time away from the office since we can access it from any PC.
- Prior to using Vertex, our reports were very simplified but still contain the information needed to file sales/use tax returns. We do miss the simplified reports, however, we have adjusted to the Vertex Reports and how to use them. We still wish the reports were not so many pages to print.
- Creating tax assist rules seem like they should be easy, however, when you are doing it without the implementation help, it is somewhat difficult to remember which information is usable in which options.
- Due to the number of products that we have, we could not possibly map all of the products. So we decided to use material groups, however, we have found that many of the material groups were hard to match to taxability categories in Vertex. We had to do quite a bit of research to map things accurately. It would have been great to have more ways to map products to the taxability categories in Vertex. The categories do have a lot of content, but when your business is a very specific niche in the manufacturing world, it requires more research and business decisions had to be agreed on to get everything mapped correctly.

Vertex O Series is used for U.S. and international transaction taxes across the whole organization. It addresses all of those that SAP native functionality cannot and also avoids maintenance.
- User-friendly GUI
- Transaction tester is very useful and user friendly.
- Tax assist rules are not that complicated to build.
- Product taxability mapping changes is not user friendly.
- The import and export of tax data should be available at respective functionality area and not at tax administration - specific functionality to import/export.
- The data extraction and reading is not straightforward, e.g., I cannot review my taxability mapping of product and tax category next to it. I need to filter out two sets of information and do a Vlookup and then put them together to review. There are many other such examples.
Vertex O Series is used across the operation organization to tax end users.
- Vertex decides for the taxing jurisdiction for the user.
- Vertex has the ability to decide the taxability of different types of finance options.
- It would be great if O Series would have an address search engine option. Sometimes customer data comes in without the zip code and we have to use an outside search tool to pinpoint the zip code.

Our Company is currently in the process of integrating Workday Cloud ERP with Vertex Cloud and moving to Vertex Returns Cloud. We currently use Vertex 7 On Premise - Consumer's Use. Our goal is to automate the verification of supplier sales tax and automate the ledger entries to self-assess use tax. We would also like to bring in the outsourced returns process to Vertex Cloud Returns.
- Product or purchasing code mapping.
- Tax rates.
- Tax research.
- Support for Vertex Cloud is lacking.
- The sales process around determining if on-demand vs. cloud would fit a client's needs.
- Vertex Returns provided with the cloud lacks functionality when compared to the returns module used with on-premise or on-demand.
Vertex O is being used in all aspects of my organization. We use if for procurement, accounts payable, and sales. One problem with addresses is that we need to know to get the correct tax rates. Prior to when using Vertex Q Series, we always had issues with the wrong rates for jurisdictions with multiple rates.
- Runs the sales report very quickly.
- Adding a new exemption is much faster than Q Series.
- Vertex O allows custom work arounds.
- Creating a ticket with Vertex customer support is not easy.
- Monthly updates can be time-consuming.
- Too much functionality, need more specific training.
O series is used to calculate both sales and use tax in our ERP system. We have one ERP instance. We also use it to manage exemption certificates. We only use O series for the US and Canada. All other tax is computed by our ERP. We use the tax reports to send data to a third party to tax return preparer.
- Calculates accurate sales and use tax based on your configuration.
- Monthly updates are easy to keep tax rules up to date.
- Continues to improve its troubleshooting tools.
- Missing an easy way to enter tax exemption certificates for reciprocal certificates. State certificates that are accepted in other jurisdictions.
- The interface for creating tax assist rules in V.8 is very clumsy and not very user-friendly. Not intuitive and very technical.
- The interface for creating reports is not user-friendly. It is very clunky and difficult to use. Particularly the filters.

CONA is a service company that provides an IT platform for 12 Coca Cola bottlers. We have Vertex 7.0 installed as our tax calculation engine and it is bolted on to our SAP environment. We use the O Series for transaction taxes in North America (including Canada). This includes Sales and Use, VAT, Container deposits, CRFs, soft drink taxes, and Sugar-sweetened beverage taxes. We are able to handle multiple types of transaction taxes in one system. It saves time and money.
- The O Series does a good job keeping the rates current for multiple tax types and fees.
- The O Series has been quick to work with us on new tax legislation around soft drink taxes that get passed quickly and are implemented quickly.
- The O Series support has worked well with us on our issues that require quick correction.
- Some of the changes that were made to the qualifying conditions from the conditional rules caused us issues. We would have liked it if Vertex had continued to support the original conditional rule design but we have moved past that issue now.
- We have had to create some of our own rules to accommodate the origin rules for soft drink taxes. We had hoped vertex would have been quicker to handle those.
- We do still have issues with the return export file. The data is not always correct but we are working with support on this.
We use Vertex O Series for all of our on-system branches within the US and Canada. This is around 100 branches. O Series has taken the sales tax decision making away from a person and made it electronic which has proven very beneficial over the years by reducing our audit assessments.
- The tax ids are very granular and give us a very precise tax calculation.
- Vertex O Series gives us very detailed reports that are used in determining Nexus requirements.
- I'm the manager of our team and not in the details of O Series.

Vertex O Series is being used by Kimberly-Clark to make tax determinations on both the purchasing and sales side. The biggest business problem that it addressed for us at the time of implementation was certificate entry information and certificate storage. With the ECM, we were able to more accurately account for customer exemptions and store certificate images for audit reference.
- Coming from Vertex Q to O, the dash board functionality made the transition very easy.
- Vertex Help has a multitude of places to get assistance. Documentation is available as well as submitting questions to be answered by a Vertex resource.
- Communication well in advance of changes and upgrades.
- VAT functionality especially in Brazil - More detail for those looking to implement
- My learning resources to help new team members become familiar with the software

Vertex O Series is used primarily by our US division and we plan to implement into global ERP in the next year or so. The tax department are the main users, but we cooperate with the IT department....even if they don't cooperate with us!
- Straightforward setup of drivers and mapping
- Simple layout
- Great learning platforms
- Simple layout/format is often times too simple. I find it to be very buggy.
- Allow for single instance (one window) and multiple tabs being open at once. Jumping back and forth between screens and having to throw out prior work is not helpful.
- More industry specific mapping catagories
We use it in our Tax Department in connection with SAP in order to make tax decisions on our purchases. We are able to write rules on the more complex tax decision items and that helps us save on Ryan LLC fees we pay for reverse audits.
- Rule Writing - able to write a rule for a vendor that will only charge tax in one state but the product is used in several states so we use an allocation rule to pay use tax in the states where we have users.
- Support - When I have a question about the system, they get back to me within a few hours of opening a ticket.
- Tools - We use the tool's function to test if material groups are being mapped correctly to get to a correct tax decision.
- Space issues - the system keeps shutting down so we found out it was because Vertex had some space issues
Use it across the organization for the food division. Solves the issue of sales and use tax.
- Current tax rates for invoicing
- Ability to override tax
- Easy interface to Vertex Returns
- More streamlined flow for beverage taxation
- Easier creation of tax assist rules
- More configuration setup control at the user level
We are using the Vertex O series as our tax engine and primary reporting tool. We have 60 plus operating companies that use two different billing systems. We use Vertex O to calculate the tax across both billing platforms and then pass that data to Vertex Returns for compliance reporting. Vertex O is able to handle complex taxing issues and calculations for us across both platforms so we are confident that the tax charged on the invoice is correct.
- Report generation. We can rely on a range of reports with very detailed data to high-level summaries.
- Easy export of sales and tax data from Vertex O to Vertex Returns for compliance reporting.
- Ability to assign roles and levels of what users can and cannot due within Vertex O. Very much needed for segregation of duties and SOX compliance.
- I would like to see the communication between Vertex O and Vertex Returns and a bit more shored-up. Specifically in the Tax Area ID world. It seems like there are times where a tax area id has been retired in O but still exists in returns.
- I would like to be able to search more invoices within the Standard Invoice Detail Report. Currently, the invoice number field has a character limit that is very frustrating to work with.
- I would like for there to be a progress bar feature when running reports and/or not to have to "Refresh" to see when a report or task is complete.
- I would also like to be able to kick off a report and have Vertex O notify me when the report is done.
It is being used across our two largest sales areas of direct (internet/catalog) and main retail store sales. However, we have other sales areas that we don't use Vertex on -- being restaurants, hotels, golf courses, and boat dealerships. Vertex helped take care of our largest issue of direct sales in all 50 states and also streamlined our retail sales, keeping up with rate changes in the 45 states we have retail stores in.
- Tracking rate changes.
- Mapping of products to taxability categories.
- Providing data and reporting for audits.
- We have a lot of specialized products that haven't had categories in Vertex in the past (although this is getting better).
- We need a dedicated customer service contact.

It is used by the Herff Jones Tax Department. The various plants use our rates, but the Tax Department manages everything. Vertex resolves various tax rates, exemptions, and other plant issues for the products we sell.
- It has constantly updated tax rates. This is a must for any business.
- It simplifies the tax compliance process with easy means of transferring sales/exemption data.
- It is user friendly and very easy to teach to all employees.
- So far, I have not had any issues with Vertex O Series!

It is used by one of our divisions. Vertex O series is used on-demand. It addresses our Dental equipment software products department.
- It calculates Sales and use taxes correctly, and integrates with our ERP system correctly.
- MS Great Plains interfaces with the Vertex Web-services to calculate taxes.
- It interfaces to our Vertex Returns product with no user input. It's fully automated from Transaction history to Returns.
- It's an easy to use product.
- Provides exellent user and Tax reports
- Variable fiscal month-end start and end dates.
- Quicker customer support response per on-demand customer.
- Easier geo-code assignments.

We use Vertex O Series mainly in the Tax Department but also have a few AR users handling specific tasks. We use Vertex O Series to manage sales and use tax compliance. We just replaced an older version of Q Series.
- Manages rate changes
- Manages product taxability
- Helps automate use tax accruals
- Could use more content for pharma industry products
- Could offer more training options, webinars etc...
Right now we are using Vertex O Series to input and monitor all of our customers' Exemption Certificates. We are gradually pulling all divisions of our company into SAP and Vertex O. This software has made it easier to address tax exemption issues as well as being able to provide a copy of exempt certificates for auditors.
- Integrates exempt certificates into our system which helps A/R prepare invoices properly and prevents short pays.
- The only thing I can see is uploading can be made easier.
Our organization uses Vertex O series primarily for sales tax in our brick and mortar stores. We set up our stores in Vertex so we can capture the correct tax rates by location and charge the correct sales tax to our customers. We also load our exempt customer information in Vertex.
- Tax calculation
- Tax assist rules
- Retail tax extract
- BCI procedures
- Retail tax extract time to complete
- Exemption certificates

Vertex O is being used by the tax department. We use this for our monthly compliance as well as exception certificate management. We use Vertex O to reconcile our monthly gross sales and tax to SAP's numbers. We then use this information to prepare our monthly returns. We use ECM to manage our customers exemption certificates and ensure the correct taxability of purchases.
- ECM - organizes our exemption certificates very well
- Runs huge reports with a lot of information very well
- Converting large PDF files into usable Excel files
We currently use Vertex O Series in our tax department.
- Validation of tax data
- Links with our ERP system well
- Testing of tax data
- Having the monthly updates automated instead of using myvertex
- Having the Help menu a little more user friendly
- Better search capabilitites

We use O Series for sales and use tax. We were assessing use tax manually prior to the implementation of Vertex. We have moved to an automated use tax calculation with the implementation of Oracle and Vertex O Series. It has increased our efficiency, reduced our tax liability and streamlined our processes for tax compliance. We utilize tax assist rules and look up tables specific to our needs as a manufacturer. We are very happy with this product.
- Tax assist rules
- Maintaining tax rates
- Updating changes in tax regulations
- Being able to find the names of fields when building tax assist rules
- Wayfair thresholds
