Viewpoint Spectrum is a cloud-based construction ERP suite with project management, accounting, materials and equipment management, and reporting and analytics capabilities. Some key features include workflow automation and collaboration tools, document imaging and sharing, cost estimating tools, and RFI and submittal management tools. The vendor offers a free demo of the product and provides pricing information upon request.https://media.trustradius.com/product-logos/nE/mT/BNACOX86GIBC.PNGGreat Accounting Construction SoftwareSpectrum is mainly being used by our Accounting and Project Management departments to track all costs related to our jobs. I am quite comfortable using info link, so it is easy for me to create a quick variation of the Spectrum reports, formatted the way I want it to look. But unless you have knowledge of info link, there is no way to easily rearrange Spectrum reports to show the data in the way you want it. The Job Requisition screen needs a lot of work. It's very slow if inventory is entered using the wrong job number, the entire thing has to be deleted and re-entered using the correct job number. If an item is entered using the wrong item code, you have to delete the line and re-enter it. I wish we had the ability to create new payment types. Something as simple as paying out jury duty is made more difficult than it needs to be because there is no "button" for it. Instead, we enter it as Sick and use a separate spreadsheet for tracking the actual sick time employees have remaining.,9,I have not had any experience with other construction accounting software but I would be hesitant to try anything else just for it's reporting capabilities alone. Viewpoint Spectrum has a ton of useful reports in every module that help every area of our company. The reports can be easily printed, emailed, or downloaded and sent to whoever may need them within our organization. The customer service at Viewpoint Spectrum is top notch. Any time an issue arises pertaining to Viewpoint Spectrum, someone from the company is quick to respond and/or resolve my issue. If they can't resolve it right away, they usually do research and contact me within 24 hours with a solution.,One area of Viewpoint Spectrum that could be improved would be the updates to certain modules that don't seem to get the same attention as others. For example, we use the equipment and preventive maintenance modules quite extensively, and there are certain improvements we would like made. But any time a big software update is released, these modules never seem to be addressed in the update.,9,Spectrum has allowed our company to consolidate many areas and have them all in one place. For example, our fleet management, job costing, and accounting functions can all be performed within Viewpoint Spectrum. The ability to scan and attach documents within Viewpoint Spectrum has given us the ability to easily look up documents and download or send them right away to another person.Spectrum gives you the whole viewWe have being using Spectrum since 2007 in all of the financial areas, including financial statements, a/p and subcontract management, a/r and project management, equipment control and tracking, job cost and work in process, human resources and payroll, fixed assets, and document management for the financial aspects of the business. The Spectrum product continues to excel and move forward to stay on the cutting edge of where software and data management is going.,Document control and imaging: scanning and storing the respective documents, invoices, timesheets, contract change orders, etc. to facilitate quick viewing and or printing of info needed. All of the modules work seamlessly to provide information and documents from other modules In various modules (job cost, general ledger, etc) you can, through an inquiry mode, capture details and easily export/download to Excel to produce your own ad-hoc reports and research of data. The structure of the software works across all modules the same and shares/works with other products Viewpoint provides.,The fixed asset module is less than it needs to be: there is room for improvement and it needs additional functionality Some of the functions that work in the main company do not work in a confidential payroll company—this needs to be addressed. For example, you cannot input equipment usage for an employee in the confidential payroll process you have to go to the main company and input this thru the equipment control module. In the same line, the bank reconciliations require you do one in each company for the confidential payroll bank account and both only contain part of the date (i.e., reg company has deposits, confidential payroll has employee checks).,9,Ease of use in retrieving scanned images to provide the documents for something when required saving minutes to hours depending or where the physical documents are. Have kept jobs/ap, billings, costs, etc going back to the beginning of implementation and this makes it easy when required to capture and produce data/financial/job details, etc. The ease of use and training someone to use system (basics) makes it easier for new employees and saves time on training. When requested to complete or produce data it can be retrieved via info link or other aspects to create reports in excel or thru crystal reports saving time. The instant cost and information on projects as AP, payroll and other costs are updated to manage a project helps to stay on track and provide the project team with info.,Viewpoint Spectrum,Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat DCSpectrum is the best!It is a great tool for tracking and organization. I love that I can attach documents to different sections of tracking. That way I can keep every step in the same place if I ever have to look back. The filter options are great for searching for things in a timely fashion!,I think the windows that you use for getting into a section to enter data should combine differently so you don't have to have so many Spectrum windows open at once.,9,I think it is a great tool and worth the investment for our company.,Good product with proper trainingWe are currently using Viewpoint Spectrum mostly for accounting and payroll. We have a second company that runs payroll for field staff so we can import those cost directly into Job Cost. Ability to import job setups since we are not using an estimating module that will interface. Reporting export capabilities into various formats assists in providing simple to detailed reports.,Availability to file payroll reports through Spectrum and have the option to pay the taxes. Non-customer receipt information is very limited and doesn't show up on the detailed general ledger so it makes extra work to track what those funds might be. A better way to add Subcontractor change orders prior to having the Owner change orders already written.,9,Viewpoint Spectrum has been able to provide Ownership with more timely financial information then what was being done prior. The integration and ease of reporting have made it easier to connect the office to the field. We find Spectrum user-friendly and with the ability to login through the website, connectivity issues are very rare. Spectrum houses all of our accounting records where we can generate reports on the fly to see at a glance where we are at on any job and dive into deeper levels to get all the information. The dashboard is a great asset for corporate leaders to get a snapshot quickly and easily.,Dashboards make navigating to the crucial information quick and easy. The layout with what we affectionately call the job info bar helps our project teams to quickly get where they need to go in the system. Crystal reports are easily managed and integrated with Spectrum, giving us great flexibility in custom reports. With a little training, and I mean a little, Spectrum is user friendly. Easy to create favorites/shortcuts for ease of use.,The project management module could use some work. The reports and forms for this area are not easy to modify. Calculator ability within the invoicing or draw request screen instead of having to use calculator outside of the system. Draw request - the ability to change what is shown in the remarks field on the billing history detail screen.,10,Spectrum has had an overall positive impact as we have been able to streamline and condense many of our processes. We are currently evaluating adding TEAM and are struggling with figuring out the ROI. And with all software, the price seems to be going up on everything. As construction embraces technology, we need to be careful and considerate of the investments we make; evaluation of the software to make sure it is a good fit is very important.,,Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Project, Quick Base, Bluebeam RevuIt's the okay-est software we can't function withoutWe use Viewpoint Spectrum across the entire company. It's a great way to store and track virtually everything that goes into a construction job. We are using it for the financial side, and use Procore for the construction side. We also use it extensively at our service company. Without Spectrum, I'm guessing we would have a mountain of paper and never be able to find the information we need. There are also some useful reports.,Keeps information digital. Organizes information and runs reports. Helps communicate efficiently between departments.,The reporting is kinda clunky. On-site support is very very expensive (but a lot of mistakes occurred on initial setup, and fixing them is difficult). The imaging is quirky and often slow.,7,There's no way to calculate how helpful it is for organizing all of our information. It looks so usefulSpectrum is used throughout the organization. We manage project costs and receipts, profitability/losses, vendors, equipment, payroll/HR, and overall financials.,Managing supply logistics is fairly effective in Spectrum, with every purchase on a PO or subcontract (budgeting) tracking back to the job budget/phase. Invoicing is relatively simple once one learns all the required steps. Producing income reports for sales taxes is simple.,Spectrum "help" screens are ridiculously difficult to navigate. Some of the processes require counter-intuitive steps and it's hard to find the right steps using "help." A book would be so helpful, something that could be marked up and kept by the desk. I've created on by printing off help screens (because when you find the right one, you'd better keep it); but the result is a 4" binder filled with screen prints and step-by-step instructions created internally.,6,We like having records and information archived. Being able to upload documents (equipment titles and registrations, employee certifications, etc.) is useful. We like the workflow in invoice approval, which provides a clear approval trail and allows for multiple approval levels. Spectrum is exceedingly difficult to learn and requires keeping extensive notes, especially for functions we don't use often.,,Microsoft 365 Business, Egnyte, Adobe Acrobat DC, Oracle Primavera Portfolio ManagementGet the Best 'View': Try Viewpoint for your businessViewpoint Spectrum is used across the entire organization. It links cost management through payroll and accounts payable modules to job cost seamlessly. The reporting capabilities and parameters are useful to project managers and support staff.,Records a single transaction and is linked through many modules so that once an invoice is input for payment, a user can view the invoices, determine when we will be paid, see if it is assigned to the correct job, and see the expenses in job cost reports in the applicable general ledger expense account. The cash management module provides the ability to reconcile the cash/operating account balance to the bank balance on a daily basis and reconciles/researches any discrepancies without generating tons of paper or waiting until month-end. The multitude of job cost and history reports along with scanned documents to substantiate costs is a valuable resource to project managers for managing a large job, determining profit margins, and managing manpower.,The general ledger module, specifically cash account, has eliminated the ability to post cash receipts and cash payments (A/P) in a lump sum. Therefore, reconciliations and cash-flow reporting and accumulation of valuable data are extremely unproductive and inefficient. The inflexibility of voiding transaction in A/P after entered. You must create credit, then match the original input to credit in order to eliminate it outstanding and all reports.,8,Cash management module and bank account reconciliation results in approx 8 hours saved time at end of month reconciliation of an operating account with pages of transactions. Accounts receivable reporting and customer files are extremely useful in the collection process rather than keeping manual resources.Spectrum is a step in the right direction! We use Spectrum in the office and out in the field. Our field support is able to use real-time data to ensure their projects stay on budget at all at times. They are able to run easy reports to verify costs and man-hours without having to wait for information to be updated. The office staff is able to run reports to ensure we are properly billed, paid in a timely manner and make sure all documents have been uploaded for each job to stay in compliance. Our employees use it to track their hours, pay and year-end documents at any time via online access. We utilize the subcontract kiosk for all of our subcontractors so that they are able to see all the contracts they have available and how much they have billed to date. They can also upload all safety, insurance or job documents needed with reminders when something has expired. That way they can ensure they are in compliance at all times.,Real-time data is accessible at all times to everyone from employees to subcontractors. Multiple reports make it easy for you to capture the exact data you are looking for. Different security levels help control who can access information at any time.,Without shortcuts, it takes a lot of steps to access different sections that you need. Not user-friendly when trying to change the view of different pages.,8,Better job cost tracking out in the field. Better tracking capabilities for contracts, insurance documents, safety documents, and various other needs. It's good out of the box and great if you have development background to truly make it fit your culture.Viewpoint Spectrum is our accounting and cost accounting software. It is used by everyone in our company whether directly as a Spectrum user or indirectly through the use of tools that interface with the data within Spectrum for validations, automated processes, and queries. Users include Accounting, Executives, Sales, project managers, and Operations. We use it for general ledger and financial information, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost, equipment fleet management, and fuel inventory.,It is a browser-based software, which means that you can get to it as long as you can use the internet. You have the option of purchasing the Enterprise system, which allows you the ability to label and pivot your data using cost centers. Cost centers are very powerful in that users are free to devise their own intelligent number structure and implement that into a number that is connected to every transaction created. With the power of SQL SSRS and Spectrum's APIs, you can access your data and connect it to multiple databases. This contributes to robust management reporting, and also allows for bidirectional information flow to reduce keying. It has a very strong security system, including a module called InfoLink which allows for things that are queried or written from outside of Spectrum using MS SQL or Microsoft Excel query to adhere to the internal security parameters of Spectrum per user.,Development for Spectrum seems to operate at breakneck speed. This has provided some really awesome new features on a regular basis and also allows the software to keep up with the current trending wants. However, the needs tend to be ignored and little things are throughout the software that don't work and aren't fixed and are annoying. Customer service has suffered since Spectrum was taken over by Viewpoint. Software service packs used to be regular and meaty. Lately, they have been sparse and sparse. They think they have a handle on unit price work, but it's not quite according to industry standards and it's difficult to get them to understand something from an operations standpoint rather than an accounting standpoint.,7,Because of the APIs we have been able to construct our own pieces where we feel Spectrum lacks customization to our specific industry needs.,SPECTRUM ROCKS!Viewpoint Spectrum is used in our company for our accounting/project management system. It is being used across our whole organization and it addresses our issue of having up-to-date costs in the system at any given time for anyone to view. We used to have duel systems that updated each night and didn't have true up-to-date costs in it. So, Spectrum has been a great asset to us for that reason (not for that reason alone but that is one of them).,It is very quick, our previous systems took a long time to get us the detailed info Spectrum gets us in less than minutes. Spectrum gives us tons of information and in many different ways. There are multiple reports that you can pull in multiple different ways depending on your preference. Everyone here loves it.,Spectrum has room for improvement on the AR side of things. The fact that COs don't pull onto draws unless you start the draw save it and then pull the CO's over is not very useful to us. Especially when a PM pulls their draw billing worksheet and it isn't there for them to work up a billing against. Spectrum could also work on letting you hide certain add-ons and deducts that are inactive on an employee, it gets a little overwhelming when you are looking at an employee with many deducts or add-ons on an employee but some are inactive, it is just hard on your eyes to know which ones are real and which ones are not.,8,It has definitely sped up the amount of time it was taking employees to get data out of the system. So, that alone has a great ROI for us. Another positive impact it has had on us is the fact it has sped up our month end process, we are closing our months a lot faster and with more accurate data.,SAP CrystalSpectrum ReviewWe use Spectrum for our whole organization and are looking at implementing Viewpoint Service Tech and their project management tool.,Purchasing management is one of the things we love most about Spectrum. It's easy for our admins to create purchase orders and track their progress, and for the PM team to approve/deny costs. Love how easy it is to generate reports from Spectrum directly into Excel.,Ease of use and tutorials. I understand that it's all custom to your company, but basic tutorials accessible through Spectrum itself would be great. Many of our employees are unaware of the Viewpoint network website as a resource for Spectrum tips and tutorials.,9,I don't know that I'm the best judge of that within our company.,ProcoreSpectrum offers Time Tracking FlexibilityWe are using it for accounting and job cost analysis at this point. We are in the process of implementing the purchase order system and the project management module.,There is tremendous flexibility in tracking labor hours by assembly and task. The calculation of the over/under billing is nice. The payroll time sheet tracking is useful.,The Job Cost reporting could use improvement in the flexibility of choosing information. The time card module needs improvement. There need to be more training tools for the product or help guides.,8,The system provides up to date hours worked on a job. The system is more stable than the previous one. Spectrum provides better reports than the previous system. Certified payroll is more challenging than the legacy system due to the available reports.,,Microsoft Office 365Incredible Support NetworkViewpoint Spectrum is used in our corporate office for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Human Resources. We have been a Viewpoint Spectrum user since 2014. It continues to grow alongside our rapidly growing construction business. There is an incredible support network that continues to help us meet our needs. It continues to impress us.,Support Networking Continuous Improvements Listens to Feedback,Document Imaging,9,Saves timeViewpoint Spectrum blows other software out of the water!Viewpoint Spectrum is being used throughout our organization for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, HR, Payroll, and for all SDB's projects. The business problems addressed are those where we need to find out certain information for a particular project such as costs. The reporting function solves a lot of our issues. Also, we process our own payroll so Viewpoint Spectrum helps us out immensely with this.,Editing a purchase order in the system is simple. Pulling job costs reports is simple and you can break them down in detail or in summary by a particular job, vendor, etc. Processing payments to vendors is simple and easy with guided step by step buttons.,When approving invoices, there is no way to see if a job is holding retention or not. There is no column for that. When rejecting invoices, there is no way to see when or what was previously rejecting without having to resubmit the invoice.,9,I'm not sure of the numbers but it has been fairly successful.,Vista by Viewpoint

Spectrum is being used by the whole organization for purchasing, accounting, employee time input, etc. The departments that use Spectrum are sales, accounting, field, engineering, equipment, and parts store. It addresses our problems of efficiently creating POs and tracking purchases for all of our current and past projects within the company.
  • Spectrum allows me to search for past products I have purchased.
  • Spectrum allows me to easily view and sort invoices for approvals.
  • Spectrum allows me to easily view project status.
  • Being web-based, sometimes it can be slow when loading.
  • Certain buttons have to be selected directly in the center or it won't select.
  • Some naming conventions are duplicated and make navigation confusing at times.
I often have to pull reports for materials ordered from the start of a project to the finish to analyze costs and other items. Using the receiving history, I can easily sort by each product and also by dates, if needed. This then gives me all the information to analyze how much money we spent on particular items or on freight.

We use Spectrum for accounting and the work order plugins.
  • The ability to customize phase codes allows us to better dissect projects after completion to see what went wrong and what went right.
  • The project management features are a little lacking. We are going to be trying Viewpoint Team soon, so that might help bridge that gap.
Spectrum works fine for most accounting tasks and is suitably customizable for most of our accounting needs, but the project management side of the software is lacking. It would also be really nice if the time entry function was more mobile-friendly. We have a lot of field technicians that would prefer to log their time from a phone or tablet but struggle because the app is more suited to a keyboard and mouse.

Viewpoint Spectrum is well suited for cost accounting features and tracking equipment and time for each job/phase. The ability to setup triggers for the employees' special dates are a plus. I also find that the InfoLink module is extremely helpful when gathering information for audits. The support team also never gives up on finding the resolution to a problem.

Viewpoint is well suited for construction companies. I do think that they could be geared a little bit more towards heavy/highway construction firms, as it seems that some of the features of the product cater more to the electrical/home building contractors. I would say that the software definitely seems to always be improving, and it seems like there is a lot of money put into R&D.

Great construction financial package to manage/track your company and projects with more functions that can be added to manage and direct the whole process from winning the bid to implementing the build and managing it. • I think the windows that you use for getting into a section to enter data should combine differently so you don't have to have so many Spectrum windows open at once.
I love spectrum for tracking change orders and subcontractor documentation.

We are currently using Viewpoint Spectrum mostly for accounting and payroll. We have started using part of the Project Management module but have not completely incorporated its full capabilities.
  • Ability to import job cost transactions. We have a second company that runs payroll for field staff so we can import those cost directly into Job Cost.
  • Ability to import job setups since we are not using an estimating module that will interface.
  • Reporting export capabilities into various formats assists in providing simple to detailed reports.
  • Availability to file payroll reports through Spectrum and have the option to pay the taxes.
  • Non-customer receipt information is very limited and doesn't show up on the detailed general ledger so it makes extra work to track what those funds might be.
  • A better way to add Subcontractor change orders prior to having the Owner change orders already written.
Viewpoint Spectrum is well suited for medium size contractors that want integrated software. It has good comparison to Sage 300 C&E with regards to the modules available and how they work and integrated.

Builds a bridge across the Spectrum of your business

Spectrum is used across our whole organization from the corporate level to the field level. The dashboard is a great asset for corporate leaders to get a snapshot quickly and easily.
  • Dashboards make navigating to the crucial information quick and easy.
  • The layout with what we affectionately call the job info bar helps our project teams to quickly get where they need to go in the system.
  • Crystal reports are easily managed and integrated with Spectrum, giving us great flexibility in custom reports.
  • With a little training, and I mean a little, Spectrum is user friendly. Easy to create favorites/shortcuts for ease of use.
  • The project management module could use some work. The reports and forms for this area are not easy to modify.
  • Calculator ability within the invoicing or draw request screen instead of having to use calculator outside of the system.
  • Draw request - the ability to change what is shown in the remarks field on the billing history detail screen.
Spectrum is well suited for general contractors and any organization that needs a robust accounting system with the added features like equipment management, employee kiosk, work orders, purchase orders, etc. Other than the project management module, Spectrum addresses all the needs of a construction company. With their new software, TEAM, this address project management and can be added to the Spectrum suite. Spectrum is most likely too robust of a system for a smaller contractor or subcontractor. I would think best used by medium to large size companies. The nice part about Spectrum is you can pick and choose which modules work for your company.

We use Viewpoint Spectrum across the entire company. It's a great way to store and track virtually everything that goes into a construction job. We are using it for the financial side, and use Procore for the construction side. We also use it extensively at our service company. Without Spectrum, I'm guessing we would have a mountain of paper and never be able to find the information we need. There are also some useful reports.
  • Keeps information digital.
  • Organizes information and runs reports.
  • Helps communicate efficiently between departments.
  • The reporting is kinda clunky.
  • On-site support is very very expensive (but a lot of mistakes occurred on initial setup, and fixing them is difficult).
  • The imaging is quirky and often slow.
Trying to change a report or combine information from a report is impossible. Detailed help is very difficult to get. Other than that, Viewpoint is good. It helps organize payroll and stores nearly all the company information in an organized and accessible fashion.

Spectrum is used throughout the organization. We manage project costs and receipts, profitability/losses, vendors, equipment, payroll/HR, and overall financials.
  • Managing supply logistics is fairly effective in Spectrum, with every purchase on a PO or subcontract (budgeting) tracking back to the job budget/phase.
  • Invoicing is relatively simple once one learns all the required steps.
  • Producing income reports for sales taxes is simple.
  • Spectrum "help" screens are ridiculously difficult to navigate.
  • Some of the processes require counter-intuitive steps and it's hard to find the right steps using "help."
  • A book would be so helpful, something that could be marked up and kept by the desk. I've created on by printing off help screens (because when you find the right one, you'd better keep it); but the result is a 4" binder filled with screen prints and step-by-step instructions created internally.
Spectrum works well for managing project costs and equipment records. It's less useful to us in the field as we are often in remote areas with limited or very slow internet access. We think (but aren't sure) that there are apps that could be useful—the timecard app, for example. However, we don't see a way to integrate per diem into the field time records, both of which are needed to produce payroll and certified payrolls. A purchase order app would be truly useful, but there appears to be nothing in the works in that regard. We wind up with a whole lot of paper records that are then re-entered into Spectrum.

Viewpoint Spectrum is used across the entire organization. It links cost management through payroll and accounts payable modules to job cost seamlessly. The reporting capabilities and parameters are useful to project managers and support staff.
  • Records a single transaction and is linked through many modules so that once an invoice is input for payment, a user can view the invoices, determine when we will be paid, see if it is assigned to the correct job, and see the expenses in job cost reports in the applicable general ledger expense account.
  • The cash management module provides the ability to reconcile the cash/operating account balance to the bank balance on a daily basis and reconciles/researches any discrepancies without generating tons of paper or waiting until month-end.
  • The multitude of job cost and history reports along with scanned documents to substantiate costs is a valuable resource to project managers for managing a large job, determining profit margins, and managing manpower.
  • The general ledger module, specifically cash account, has eliminated the ability to post cash receipts and cash payments (A/P) in a lump sum. Therefore, reconciliations and cash-flow reporting and accumulation of valuable data are extremely unproductive and inefficient.
  • The inflexibility of voiding transaction in A/P after entered. You must create credit, then match the original input to credit in order to eliminate it outstanding and all reports.
It is well suited for job cost and project management. It needs improvement in accounting and reporting. It would be nice to have the use of simple downloads in order to produce financial statements without requiring a degree in IT.!

Spectrum is a step in the right direction!

That way they can ensure they are in compliance at all times.

  • Real-time data is accessible at all times to everyone from employees to subcontractors.
  • Multiple reports make it easy for you to capture the exact data you are looking for.
  • Different security levels help control who can access information at any time.
  • Without shortcuts, it takes a lot of steps to access different sections that you need.
  • Not user-friendly when trying to change the view of different pages.
It is accessible to everyone but there is a learning curve when you first start to use it that can make it difficult at times.

Viewpoint Spectrum is our accounting and cost accounting software. It is used by everyone in our company whether directly as a Spectrum user or indirectly through the use of tools that interface with the data within Spectrum for validations, automated processes, and queries. Users include Accounting, Executives, Sales, project managers, and Operations. We use it for general ledger and financial information, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost, equipment fleet management, and fuel inventory.
  • It is a browser-based software, which means that you can get to it as long as you can use the internet.
  • You have the option of purchasing the Enterprise system, which allows you the ability to label and pivot your data using cost centers. Cost centers are very powerful in that users are free to devise their own intelligent number structure and implement that into a number that is connected to every transaction created.
  • With the power of SQL SSRS and Spectrum's APIs, you can access your data and connect it to multiple databases. This contributes to robust management reporting, and also allows for bidirectional information flow to reduce keying.
  • It has a very strong security system, including a module called InfoLink which allows for things that are queried or written from outside of Spectrum using MS SQL or Microsoft Excel query to adhere to the internal security parameters of Spectrum per user.
  • Development for Spectrum seems to operate at breakneck speed. This has provided some really awesome new features on a regular basis and also allows the software to keep up with the current trending wants. However, the needs tend to be ignored and little things are throughout the software that don't work and aren't fixed and are annoying.
  • Customer service has suffered since Spectrum was taken over by Viewpoint.
  • Software service packs used to be regular and meaty. Lately, they have been sparse and sparse.
  • They think they have a handle on unit price work, but it's not quite according to industry standards and it's difficult to get them to understand something from an operations standpoint rather than an accounting standpoint.
Spectrum is well suited to general accounting and job cost for the most part. Its got a good lead in many of the operational areas which are related to construction projects but lacks in the manufacturing area. Inventory is geared more towards a warehouse environment and not so much towards a manufacturer so it works well with shops and fuels, but product manufacturing and cost of goods sold processes show the GAAP end result at the front of the process. The difficulty appears to be in separating accounting needs from management information needs. Accounting needs are prevalent in this software.

Viewpoint Spectrum is used in our company for our accounting/project management system. It is being used across our whole organization and it addresses our issue of having up-to-date costs in the system at any given time for anyone to view. We used to have duel systems that updated each night and didn't have true up-to-date costs in it. So, Spectrum has been a great asset to us for that reason (not for that reason alone but that is one of them).
  • It is very quick, our previous systems took a long time to get us the detailed info Spectrum gets us in less than minutes.
  • Spectrum gives us tons of information and in many different ways. There are multiple reports that you can pull in multiple different ways depending on your preference. Everyone here loves it.
  • Spectrum has room for improvement on the AR side of things. The fact that COs don't pull onto draws unless you start the draw save it and then pull the CO's over is not very useful to us. Especially when a PM pulls their draw billing worksheet and it isn't there for them to work up a billing against.
  • Spectrum could also work on letting you hide certain add-ons and deducts that are inactive on an employee, it gets a little overwhelming when you are looking at an employee with many deducts or add-ons on an employee but some are inactive, it is just hard on your eyes to know which ones are real and which ones are not.
I personally love Spectrum, and I love to be able to pull a canned report out and make a couple of changes to it and put it back in for others to use after it is a little more customized. I also think that an original subcontract should have statuses so you can keep better track of what you have not received back from the subs.

We use Spectrum for our whole organization and are looking at implementing Viewpoint Service Tech and their project management tool.
  • Purchasing management is one of the things we love most about Spectrum. It's easy for our admins to create purchase orders and track their progress, and for the PM team to approve/deny costs.
  • Love how easy it is to generate reports from Spectrum directly into Excel.
  • Ease of use and tutorials. I understand that it's all custom to your company, but basic tutorials accessible through Spectrum itself would be great. Many of our employees are unaware of the Viewpoint network website as a resource for Spectrum tips and tutorials.
I think Spectrum is well suited to many businesses in the industry. We're primarily a distributor of HVAC equipment, but we also do some construction and service work. Spectrum and its counterparts (Service Tech and PM Tool) are all useful tools.

Spectrum offers Time Tracking Flexibility

We are using it for accounting and job cost analysis at this point. We are in the process of implementing the purchase order system and the project management module.
  • There is tremendous flexibility in tracking labor hours by assembly and task.
  • The calculation of the over/under billing is nice.
  • The payroll time sheet tracking is useful.
  • The Job Cost reporting could use improvement in the flexibility of choosing information.
  • The time card module needs improvement.
  • There need to be more training tools for the product or help guides.
I would recommend Spectrum for a smaller organization with larger construction jobs.

Viewpoint Spectrum is used in our corporate office for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Human Resources. We have been a Viewpoint Spectrum user since 2014. It continues to grow alongside our rapidly growing construction business. There is an incredible support network that continues to help us meet our needs. It continues to impress us.
  • Support Networking
  • Continuous Improvements
  • Listens to Feedback
  • Document Imaging
Viewpoint Spectrum is well suited for all levels of accounts payable from date entry to invoice approval. It is consistent and allows for memos and notes and document imaging. Viewpoint Spectrum is less appropriate for some payroll situations. We use an outside source to digitally send paycheck information to customers.

Viewpoint Spectrum blows other software out of the water!

Viewpoint Spectrum is being used throughout our organization for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, HR, Payroll, and for all SDB's projects. The business problems addressed are those where we need to find out certain information for a particular project such as costs. The reporting function solves a lot of our issues. Also, we process our own payroll so Viewpoint Spectrum helps us out immensely with this.
  • Editing a purchase order in the system is simple.
  • Pulling job costs reports is simple and you can break them down in detail or in summary by a particular job, vendor, etc.
  • Processing payments to vendors is simple and easy with guided step by step buttons.
  • When approving invoices, there is no way to see if a job is holding retention or not. There is no column for that.
  • When rejecting invoices, there is no way to see when or what was previously rejecting without having to resubmit the invoice.
It is well suited for Accounting, Job Costs, Payroll, and Projects.
