What is WatchGuard Network Security?

The WatchGuard Firebox family of firewalls offers critical network security solutions for businesses of all types and sizes, including tabletop and 1U rack-mounted appliances to Cloud and virtual firewalls. Firebox appliances deliver critical security services from standard IPS, URL filtering, gateway AV, application control, and antispam, to advanced protections such as file sandboxing, and DNS filtering. WatchGuard Firewalls have a very user-friendly Console Management app. They have a very fast and responsive customer support department.

You are easily able to whitelist pages, give employees full access, block certain countries, setup tunnels to branch locations, setup a spam filter and gateway antivirus protection.

Although it might take some time to figure out, we have been able to use WatchGuard's online reference library and tech support to create/implement/modify all of our filtering rules and exceptions needed. There really has not been a shortcoming other than perhaps a learning curve.

I think once the intial explaination of what is infront of you is explained it is very easy to understand and use. If you have a hard time using FAQ or knowledge bases, there are many online tutorials on Youtube you can easily find, as this is a very well covered firewall. Once you know the issue, there are very very easy walk throughs that often take less than 10 minutes to watch and impliment.

Accessing devices is easy, one has two different options, desktop app or web app. Creating and modifying rules with desktop app is very easy, with web app is a little cumbersome. Getting results with Dimension reports is easy but lacks report diversity; also, some report data doesn't match with real data. Have to improve report filtering options.

The system is very easy to use, even with minimal training. If you have a basic understanding of network security, you should be able to easily program and manage the platform.

WatchGuard Network Security firewalls have a very convenient way of managing them. Their live logging makes it very easy to quickly monitor traffic and see what's going on and what changes might be needed to be done to get something to work. In most cases, it was the WatchGuard Network Security logging that helped us find an issue when getting the device to work with a competitor's device (i.e. setting up VPN) because the other side lacked easy-to-understand yet detailed debug information.

It takes some training to use it and it makes sense since it is a highly secure device. I guess it would be possible to get the basic feature set up a little more easily without getting too technical but at the same time I guess it wouldn't be as secure as it is now.

Overall WatchGuard Firewalls and network security products are easy to configure while still offering options when needed such as configurable options for HTTPS deep inspection.

Extremely simple to set up, and even easier to replace when you upgrade or your licensing expires. Simply dump the config file, and re-upload to your new device, and you're done!

The WatchGuard Network Security provide a web interface or a client interface, no matter what you approach is but you have two full powerful instrument to manage the firewall with easy interface (web) or with strong security (client). We prefer the usage with client but in fast change can be done in the web interface in a zip

It is complex, but anything of this nature will be. The basic setup was simple. The complexity comes in when implementing network security features. WatchGuard support was able to give us much needed help in getting these items implemented in a way where we feel our network is very well secured.
